my letter of evaluation form and legal disclosure form arrived at IU on 8/5 and weren't marked complete until today so idk if that may help others who are worrying about their complete status

Thank you! Idk when mine arrived, but I mailed them all out more than 2 weeks ago and when I checked today all of my forms but the deans eval were marked received finally. 🙂

Hopefully my deans eval will be marked received soon as well; I had to mail it to my undergrad first so I understand the delay there.

CONGRATSS

Can I ask you when you got your email from them stating that they received your app?

I was verified the 22 and am feeling super neurotic

Same here.

Everything has been received and indicated by green check marks. It took a few weeks until this happened, so I would definitely wait and see!

Interview invite! First one! OOS, 27 MCAT, 8/9 retake (didn't feel well about it :-/). 3.63 GPA, also a minority. Requested Indianapolis site, I wonder how to put the committee letter on the eval form though, since I only know who drafted it.

Hopefully I could say the same soon. Mailed my forms on about 8/3, but nothing has been marked as received yet 🙁

8/28 Interview date at Indianapolis.

I wish they notified me a few weeks earlier because booking for flights almost a week before the day of the interview is not what I had in mind!

EDIT: They just sent another e-mail saying my interview date should have been 9/4 instead.. Oh well.. I'll take that.

I'm 9-4 as well! The first email saying 8-28 scared the heck out of me, especially since I'm starting a new job on the 26th...As it is, they hardly notified us soon enough enough before the interview! I'll be driving in, but I still have to contact my work for a day and a half off.

anyone else get an interview date? I requested the northwest (gary) campus but haven't heard back yet

9/4 Interview date in Indianapolis.

What time is your interview? I just talked with a friend who's also interviewing at Indy and her time on 9-4 is 2:15pm (whereas mine is 11am), so it seems they are scheduling them all throughout the day.

10:15 am. Looks like it will be a 45 minute interview, so you are the next person after me?!

(JK, I am not sure how many interviews take place simultaneously.)

Interview 9/4/13.
I'm very excited!
Indianapolis.
9:30 AM interview, 8:15 check-in.

Interview 9/4 at 9:30 am

I'm super exited but I have already bought a plane ticket for an interview on 9/5 so now I have to call Delta and re-schedule. I hope I can get a full refund.

Oops , submitted post twice...

9/4 Interview, indy campus.

However, I still have yellow exclamation points on my secondary. Anyone else have the same thing? I sent off those papers almost 2 weeks ago.

9/4 Interview at Indy campus too! and I also have my "Dean of student evaluation" still missing. That's the one component that I did not personally send because my school was suppose to sent it out. I was told they sent it out like three weeks ago already thou....

I'm in the same boat; I wouldn't worry too much about it yet. You can always call IU if you want, but they're likely going slower with those forms since they take longer to be returned (coming from people's undergrads and all).

If it's still not marked received next week then worry.

Probably a lot of people interview simultaneously; last year I think it was said that 50-100 people interviewed on each Indianapolis interview day (then again, a friend told me last year there weren't as many campuses to interview at--so maybe less will be interviewing per day at Indy this year?).

Yah. true. oh and where did you guys mail the transcript to? The admissions office address where we mailed all the documents in?

I don't think you mail your transcript to any school unless you get accepted and matriculate...call the office to be sure, but you definitely don't need to send it in before the interview at the very least.

All that needs to be in before the interview: the dean's form, the letters form (and the letters themselves), and the legal form.

really? this is what it says in my email regarding my interview on 9/4.

"If you have completed additional course work since your initial application, please have your registrar send a transcript prior to your interview. The Admissions Committee asks that you have as many of your evaluations and references as possible in your folder before your interview."

My Spring grades weren't in when I submitted my AMCAS in early June!

Ohhhhh are you on a quarter or trimester system? In that case you definitely should send a transcript in soon; my apologies for my previous post--I was on the semester system so my transcript with my spring grades was ready to be sent to AMCAS by mid-May.

Idk where you send it...maybe the address where the letters/deans/legal forms were sent?

Yeah, I just sent my transcript to the same address. Don't have any reason to believe it would be any different.

After skimming through 15+ page worth of the last year's thread, I am going to share some info that might be helpful, so that you guys don't have to go through those threads like me!

1) IUSM Interview Feedback

http://studentdoctor.net/schools/school/iusm/survey/26

2) Various interview testimonies (all said by people on last year's thread)

"My interviewer explained it to me like this: each applicant can be awarded points (up to 200) including interview scores; the files are assembled with the most points on top, so that's how they are reviewed. After each interview day, more files are added to the list, with the most points on top.... so that's how someone who interviews in September might not hear anything til May."

(I think the interview is out of 100, if I remember correctly from reading somewhere)

"Please keep in mind that just because Indianapolis is the most popular campus, there is no loss of educational opportunity at the satellite campuses. IUSM has a statewide curriculum. No matter what campus you are assigned you are being taught by IU employees or IU approved employees. Many of our satellite campuses actually have new facilities, and smaller classes which allow for a more personal connection between faculty and students. Unlike Indy, which is a traditional large lecture where it is more difficult, though not impossible, to have intrapersonal connections. Also many of our satellite campuses have different educational methods to presenting the core IUSM curriculum, such as problem-based learning and team-based learning. I recommend that regardless of whether or not you request a rural app, that you look at what each of our campuses have to offer, so that you can make the best educated decision regarding your future. Information about each campus can be found at: http://www.medicine.iu.edu/n/iusm-campuses/"

"There will be some typical canned questions, if anything is different about your application, be sure you can easily answer questions about it.
I interviewed this year and I was assigned 2 interviewers, but only one was there that day. The interview was really laid back and lasted about 45 minutes. There's only one interview--it may be 2:1 or 1:1. You'll get the names of your interviewers at the beginning of the day when you check in. Make sure you get to your interview spot early just in case you get lost on the way. It's a chill interview day. Just know your application well and relax!"

"The whole thing lasted 50 minutes. They made me feel completely at ease, which was wonderful. They asked about my SAT/ACT scores, my activities in high school and college, what my parents do, if I've shadowed any physicians, if I've done any research (they were very impressed when I could intelligently describe what my research actually was), 2 strengths and 2 weaknesses, and why I want to go to IU. There were two ethical questions and one addressing professionalism. There were no questions about health care reform, politics, or any discussion about the classes I'm taking (including the fact that I'm a Bib lit major). They did ask how I studied for the MCAT and how much weekly preparation I put into it."

"They told us to check-in at 12:15 so I made sure to get there by 12:00 (I drove in from ~3 hrs away). I arrived at check-in and hung around with some other interviewees in the atrium. The problem was that there was nothing to do but wait for nearly an hour until the information session began.

Finally, at 1:00 they walked us to another building (in the rain) to the information session. The session may have been more enjoyable if not for the fact that everybody was so nervous bc IU decides to do interviews at the end of the days! There were about 50-60 of us in the lecture room and we listened to one of the heads of the adcom give a presentation, followed by a Q & A session with a M1, M3, and M4. It was informative and interesting but the whole thing kind of felt more like factory, because there are so many applicants, rather than a more personal interview day.

Anyways, after the information session we walked all the way back to the first building for a financial aid session where they just told us about how much debt we're gonna rack up (but how in the end it is still a small investment in our future career). Again, the whole thing had a very nervous feel to it, especially bc some of us had interviews starting at 3 and we had to walk around the campus finding where our interview was (they gave us each a map telling us where to go).

My interview was at 3:45 so I had to sit outside someone's office for 45 minutes getting even more nervous before my interview started. I had 2 interviewers, they were both very nice but they were hard to read and kept the conversation very "professional." I did not have the same experience that others have mentioned. I found my questions a little more difficult and the interview did not have a "conversational feel." My interview lasted 45 minutes, and they asked me pretty much every "expected question" along with some unexpected ones. Whenever I answered, they both just nodded and wrote down notes. I was very nervous and I think it showed, but hopefully they understand that everybody is nervous and it's rarely a person's real comfortable self that they get to see. I don't know if they actually read my entire application beforehand because I was expecting them to ask more specific questions about my activities, etc, but instead all the questions were generic, why medicine, etc.. or about my grades."

"For me, it went really well I feel. Schedules vary between people but my check in was at 8:15a, and because I got there just in time (Aim to get there early if you aren't familiar with the area, I planned to get there 30min early but traffic made it so I was only about 5min early), there was a fairly decent line I had to wait in to get my materials (Interview location & directions + interviewer names, campus map, curriculum details). By the time I got those, it was time for the financial aid session (8:45a), and I thought that did a good job at explaining the options for paying for med school. That lasted about a half hour, which gave me 15 minutes to get to my interview location, which was plenty of time. My interview (9:30a) was in Fessler Hall right near the entrance, but I know some people had interviews in Riley Hospital, and I'm sure there were other locations as well. The interviewers were very friendly, and it was more of a conversation than them rapid firing questions at me. Everyone I talked to said that they felt the same way. It was not stressful at all, and as long as you prepare some beforehand, you should do fine. The start times of the interviews were set 45 minutes apart, and my interview took about 40 minutes. After that I had about an hour and a half break (others were being interviewed during this time) before the info session at 11:45a. This started with a presentation on admission stats, the curriculum, and differences at the regional campuses, but after that was finished, there was a panel of 4 students who had been on different campuses, and it was just open Q&A, and it was nice to hear info from a different perspective. That meeting lasted about an hour, and it was the last thing for me. Overall, the day left a very good impression on me, and I felt good coming out of it. I know this was a really long post, but I hope it gives you some idea of what to expect!"

TL;DR: You will get either (1) heavily drilled by tons of ethical questions without any feedback (positive or negative) from interviewers who have great poker faces, or (2) very laid-back, friendly interviews where they want to get to know you.

It's open file, but interviewer(s) probably often didn't read much about your stuff, so mention about your unique ECs whenever you have a chance. But if you are asked about ethical questions about competencies and what you would do in certain scenarios, you will probably be unable to highlight your activities much. Cross your fingers, everyone.

3) Miscellaneous

a. Eat beforehand, no lunch lunch will be provided. Just snacks will be around.
b. There used to be a really nice, 2-min-walk-from-interview hotel (University Place Hotel) but it's now a dorm, so expect to book your hotel quite far away.
c. Call the hotel to see if they can hold on to your luggage(s) during the interview day
d. Adcoms will meet only once a month (15th of the month) and they will cover as many files as they can in one day. No news is good news, because you will get acceptance letters and/or 3 e-mails about campus choice, health/immunization-related stuff, and technical standards (which are good news that you want to have post-interview), but rejections and wait lists tend to happen via e-mail.
e. At Muncie, not much research available for MS1/2, so many med students tend to do shadowing during the summer. Any current med students are welcome to correct me on this.
f. Lottery for Indy campuses happen on May, and ~60% of those who indicated Indy as their first choice will actually get that Indy campus spot. . If you select regional campuses as your first choice, and especially when you are interviewed early, it's almost guarantee that you will get that spot.
g. If you are interviewing in Indy, and if you have a chance, walk around the campus to know some buildings beforehand. Sometimes there are constructions around, so even if you leave early, you might still get to your interview late unintentionally.
h. If your mother is a dentist, expect to answer a question like, "Why not becoming a dentist?"
i. Probably 18th-20th or later during every month post-interview after October, you can probably call the office asking "I am just wondering if you could check my status?" instead of asking "Can you tell me if I am accepted?" In doing so, you will know whether the decision was made before you receive the letter. But sometimes, they won't tell you over the phone, so don't expect to get your answer anyways. But it will be a good try post-interview.
j. No attendance was taken during info session and other sessions. If you are super busy, just attend the interview and you can probably leave. But I wouldn't tell your interviewer saying you have to leave early.
k. I don't know if it was mentioned above already, but each interviewer (or a set of two interviewers for 2:1 interviews) will interview 3-5 in the morning and another 3-5 applicants in the afternoon. So for total, anywhere from 80-100 interviews will be done for each interview day.

That's all I could think of at this moment. Feel free to add more useful information if I missed anything significant!

Wow, that's a lot of helpful info!! Thanks so much, Lya. 🙂

Just checked and the interview part of my portal has now been updated to look like this:

INTERVIEW SCHEDULE
Your interview schedule is as follows:
Date: 9/4/2013

Additional Information:
*Please note: If an interview is listed, it is only tentative until an official email is sent from the Admissions Office, which should come around 30 days prior to the event.

The Admissions Office is asking all applicants to reply to [email protected] with your decision on attending as soon as possible. If we have not heard from you two weeks prior to your scheduled interview, the Admissions Office reserves the right to cancel your interview. Please keep in mind that without an interview your application can not move forward which will result in cancellation. Please email your reply with your name, AMCAS ID number, date and time of interview, and if you will be attending your currently scheduled interview.

I am not looking forward to that 6:30 am flight from NY to IN..

Anyone else staying overnight at Hampton for 9/4 interview?

I'm also 9/4, just got my date. but i'm on the Northwest campus.

is there a forum anywhere on this site solely for interviews? i need help with seeing what the typical questions to expect at every interview and also maybe reading feedback from people who went to IU interviews.

thanks, but I don't really see any information about interviews in general?

I am also looking for just advice in general for a med school interview. the typical questions they ask, i.e. what questions I should be prepared for.

md/phd rejection. no love from my state 🙁

II received this morning! my first one! OOS 3.75 sGPA 32 MCAT verified 7/31 no ties to Indiana. Finally some good news. Rejected from Duke, Mayo, University of Washington (pre secondary), hold at GW. Good luck to everyone who has yet to hear / has interviews.

Congrats to all of you who got an II today! 🙂

Of those of you who are interviewing with me on 9-4, has anyone's Dean's form been marked as received yet? I wasn't worrying before, but now it's starting to get annoying that the interview is less than 2 weeks away and they still haven't marked that form as received yet (and I sent it out to my undergrad--which is also in Indiana--to be filled out and send along ~3 weeks ago).

Also interviewing on 9/4.

I sent out the forms 8/6, still no green check marks. I'm waiting to give them a call on Monday.

Hi all, I just have two quick questions regarding the interview:
1. Is the interview date/time given to us or are we allowed to choose?
2. Can we send the interview location email before mailing in the forms?
Thanks!

1. Given to you and supposedly it is very hard to reschedule an IU interview (they have a very limited # of dates and a lot of people interviewing each day.) Interviews are always Wednesdays, I think, if that helps.
2. Yes! You give your location first (I think in your initial invite email they tell you to email that out asap), then mail your forms in as soon as possible (you don't need to indicate your interview location on any of the forms).

Your interview location will also determine your interview date--a few regional campuses have scheduled interviews for next week already whereas the first Indianapolis interviews don't start til 9-4.

Can someone help me with this LOR form please?

For job title, should we put what their job title in relation to us is? Like Professor or Supervisor or should we put their actual title such as Biology Lab Manager or Manager of XYZ?

For course title did you put PHYS 101 or Introduction to Blah Blah Blah

Thanks!

Edit: I am curious about the job title because one of my letter writers has a pretty impressive job title outside of being a professor and I would like to include it if it doesn't look strange.
