2013-2014 Stony Brook University Application Thread

Was anyone with a recent II complete late July? I'm getting nervous...
 
Have an interview here this upcoming Tuesday--- can anybody who interviewed here elaborate on how the two separate interviews compare to each other? I know they are with different faculty members, but is one from a clinical professor and one from a more research oriented professor....or is it just random?

Also- if anybody has any specific tips as to what they are looking for in prospective students, that help would be greatly appreciated. I have heard that the new dean is trying to strengthen SB's research focus, so would it be a good idea to stress past research experience? Thanks.

As far as I could tell, it was random. I had 2 non-MD interviewers (a DSW and a PhD). Other interviewees had 2 MDs. Others had a faculty member and a student. The information packet they give you when you arrive tells you who your interviewers are going to be, and their positions.

I was complete in July and have heard jack. Had interviews at all other SUNYs already + Hofstra and even just got an II at Columbia. Stony brook is 20 minutes from where I grew up. WHAT GIVES

Wow I really feel sorry for you! Naaaaaaahhhhhttt. In all seriousness this process is such a crapshoot. Be thankful for what you have. Seems likely that you'll end up with a choice as to where you will matriculate, many people on this forum would be overjoyed to have one acceptance.

Yeah sorry for the humble brag 🙁

I'm kind of bitter because I just got my first decision of the season and it was a waitlist 🙁 but I know I am very lucky for all of the interviews I've gotten so far. I'm sure we'll all have some good news coming very soon either in the form of IIs or decisions.
 
How did you get a decision already? I thought even if you apply ED, It's either a yes or a no, no waitlists..?

After submitting my secondary, I received a complete e-mail a month later.

Secondary submitted and received e-mail stating it was received: 9/09
Complete e-mail: 10/7

Whoops, I gave you an answer to a whole different question! No, I got that email a couple of days after submitting. Hope this helps!

Congratulations!!! Stony Brook was great. Can you share if it was by email or phone call? And when did you interview? I was just there last week, so I'm pretty confident I'm not going to hear back this soon, but a girl can dream.

Accepted. Wow, so pumped. Can't even put it into words. Such a swing of emotions, I got rejected by Upstate and Buffalo earlier today, but now I don't care at all.

Do all the acceptances come out at the same time? What about rejections and waitlist? I interviewed the second week of September and haven't heard from them yet :/

I received my email around 2:30 and others received theirs around 11:30-12... doesn't seem that they're sent out at the same exact time.

Accepted!!!!!! Interviewed 9/19. This is so surreal. I'm so excited!!!! Congrats to everyone who got in and good luck to everyone still waiting to hear!

i am straight up going crazy. checking my email every minute or so.

i interviewed 9/24. anyone know if the group on this date was notified of acceptance/waitlist?
if not, around when do you suppose interviewees of late september will be notified?

Doubtful, probably they'll let you know ~4 weeks after your interview. Relax, you'll know soon enough. Have some tea, take a hot shower, etc.
 
You're going to most likely find out in a week or two.. Stony Brook has been fairly consistent with their turnaround time and its usually just over a month before you hear back.

That's not to say it wouldn't be awesome to hear back already, having interviewed only last week :laugh:

In-State | 3.70 cGPA | 3.67 sGPA | 38 MCAT (14 PS/13 VR/11BS)

So excited!!!!! I feel like this school is such a great fit for me 😀

I'm a girl 🙂 But yeah, sending some good vibes to you too! Against all common sense I'm hoping that silence does not equal waitlist/rejection.
On a good note I got accepted somewhere else today so at least I'll be a doctor!

Hey, we were there on the same day! Congrats! I didn't think anyone would hear back this soon but I guess now I can check my email even more neurotically. 🙂

Congratulations to everyone who was accepted! I fell in love with Stonybrook on interview day. All the best to you guys 👍

I interviewed on 9/13 and still haven't received any word but people who interviewed in October have already gotten decisions. Not sure what to make of it 😕

I just got an ii very recently and was complete in late July. Was wondering myself if it would come, because I had ii's at Mayo, BU, Dartmouth and UMass but am sincerely interested in Stony Brook. OOS too. Super stoked!

So, perhaps yours will come soon if it hasn't already. 👍
 
Complete mid August and no word at all ... One of my top choices ... Just reject me already... I'm going crazy lol.
