2013-2014 Tulane University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Also rejected, 31 MCAT. Did anybody NOT get rejected?
I'm still under review, fingers crossed. I'm actually looking forward to September when classes start and I have something else to focus on besides refreshing my email every 2 seconds...lol. This process is so random.

Does Tulane having a tracking website anywhere? Or is it just the emails?

My secondary was received 7/31, but haven't heard anything since that time.

Aaaaand rejected. I thought my first rejection would be rough, but after reading this thread I sort of saw it coming. 31 MCAT. Looks like Tulane is WAY more selective than I thought given the range of people/stats getting turned away

so I don't think any put this up yet but for our incoming 2017 class the stats were 33/3.51 avg. take with that what you will.

classes just started a few days ago but I plan on lurking around and answer any questions someone who has been in classes for 4 days can (though there are some upper classmen on here that are probably better than me for this)

THIS!!

Rejected this morning also. Submitted 7/9.

First rejection this morning! I definetly saw it coming as well, so doesn't feel too bad. I really hope I get more interviews though...

So seriously has anyone been reviewed and not rejected?

how are people checking their status? I submitted about a week ago and whenever I log back into the secondary web page it just says "thanks for registering!"

There is no status check (look at the "complete" email; it tells you that). They notify you through email for status updates.

well first off, it was my only choice (I was waitlisted at two others including my top choice school). I eventually decided to end my waitlist purgatory in june and decided on tulane.

why? it is a great school, in a unique city, in a region of the country I have never been before, and I had tons of fun on second look. the students here are very laidback and legitimately want to help everyone do better it seems (especially since the first two years are Pass/Fail...and thats legit pass/fail not honors/high pass/ pass/ fail). would I have preferred my top choice over tulane....probably but I also love tulane and know that it is going to be awesome. also it is nice to have a class where the majority of people have been out of undergrad for at least 2 years because there is at least a little bit of increased maturity among all of us.

hope that answers that question.

rejected 8/9

didn't feel too genuine answering the secondaries, so not surprised. bummed i spent the money, but oh well.

Sorry to hear! When were you complete? I thought I saw you in other forums with interviews so congrats on those : )

7/19

thanks. i guess with 3 rejections and 4 invites i can't complain. i guess schools either love or hate my app 🙂

I didn't get rejected.... yet. Doesn't matter because I filled out the secondary last year and got a nice rejection later in the season anyways. :-(

Thanks! Very informative

II today! Boy I'm going to be cutting it close though with another interview a couple days later.

II 😀. I'm so excited to see Tulane! I've never been to New Orleans. Anyone else on Sept. 16th?

Wait mine says Friday September 20, 2016.... Does anyone else? Typo???

Yep, in the email it says MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2016! lol

I want an II here so bad, was in NOLA last weekend and fell in love!

II today for 9/20! Didn't give an option to reschedule the interview. Is there anyone else out there with jobs with some advice on how to manage multiple interviews during the week? spread them out over a couple months? I don't think my job will be too happy with me leaving multiple times within one month.

Congrats to all receiving interviews!! Can you all share when you were complete??

Do we know what % of interviews they accept?

The acceptance rate post-interview is relatively high, something like 75%-80%. I believe most everyone else is placed on the waitlist (acceptance range) if not accepted immediately. However, there was not any waitlist movement this past cycle. Not a single individual from the 2017 class was pulled from the waitlist, in fact, they increased the class size due to a slight over-enrollment.

The overall acceptance rate is closer to 3% when you look at total applicants, I believe.

For those who got interviews today-- congratulations!! Tulane is an outstanding school and a truly wonderful place to be.

Also, it was easily my most relaxed interview throughout the entire interview season.. just to put minds at ease 🙂

well I was talking to someone at white coat and he said he was taken off of the waitlist last year....but it was before second look (that's when I first met him) so it was probably really early in the cycle he was pulled off. but yeah I would not be surprised in the least if it gets more competitive this year and they actually accept less people post interview (and waitlist more) because of what happened to my year

In 2012 Tulane scheduled my interview between two other interviews that week, and it was getting out of control. I called the admissions office, and the nice lady on the other end moved my interview to a later date. It might still be an option this cycle, if you need it.

She sure talked funny on the phone though, saying "y'all" and stuff.

I imagine it's still about 200/10000=2%. But of the roughly 200 slots, does anybody know how many are open to the general public, vs reserved for undergrad programs or certificate programs with linkage? I bet the number of truly available slots is closer to 175.
