2013-2014 Washington University in St. Louis Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Is the site not saving anybody else's response? When I click submit on the wait list inquiry response page I get the thank you message, but when I log back on, my response and comment box are both blank.

The top of the site for the inquiry page says:
This link will stay active so that you can add additional responses

So I'm guessing this is how you withdraw your application if you so choose later in the cycle.

I also got the waitlist this morning. Did anyone who interviewed after February 15th get anything other than a waitlist? Has anyone been rejected post-interview?

Last year they did post-interview rejections through snail mail. Not sure if it'll be the same this year with Dean Ratts in charge.

Well then, they got my response twice!

And there's the waitlist. Most likely withdrawing but good luck to those who'll be waiting it out! 🙂

Waitlisted. I ain't going anywhere, Wash U, so

any movement on merit aid?
You have a merit scholarship, yes?
Pure speculation from previous discussions by chronicidal. Feel free to correct me: Looks like those who have received merit scholarships will attend the second look from 4/24-27. So I guess if we get the revisit invite for regular days 04/25-27, we are not the recipients for merit scholarships (at least for the first round). But there may be some spots open since people withdraw by May 15, so still in running (hopefully)

Just to add: URM also seem to be invited for second look from 4/24-27

Wait-listed, just as my interviewer told me would happen after the interview. :lame:

Anyway, going to withdraw. Good luck to those waiting it out. 🙂

It is a surprise to see that as many were matching to non-competitive Pathology as General Surgery this year.

Waitlisted as well! I am considering sending them a combined update letter/ LOI. Do you guys know where I send updates?

I was offered a tuition scholarship on May 13 so they go right up to the end (and after May 15 to lure people off the wait list).

I haven't heard of the extra day for merit scholarships awardees. I thought it was only for URMs.

My first every post on SDN! I waitlisted on 3/25 at Wash U as well. Does anyone know if Wash U will tell you where on the waitlist you stand?

The MSTP revisit is also scheduled for 4/24-27 :joyful: , ending just a few days before the April 30 deadline. :uhno:

It's so unfair that both WashU and Penn are scheduled on the same weekend 🙁

+1 🙁 How are you deciding which second look to attend?

I feel like I know more about WashU from the interview than Penn, so I'm going to Penn's second look

Same here. Don't give up hope. Also, people who get off the waitlist will get scholarship offers from time to time.

It hasn't been ranked in the past, and in talking to a member of the committee, it sounds like that has not changed this year with Dean Ratts taking over.

Ksmi117: if i have received scholarship offers from other schools, would you recommend letting washu know? I prefer Washu greatly over the place i where i was offered money

I absolutely would (sorry you didn't ask me). I had a full-tuition offer from Chicago and wanted to go to Wash U but it was too expensive. They called and offered me a half-tuition scholarship and I said that I was really honored but I just couldn't justify going to wash u over Chicago with the amount of debt difference that would be. Dean Dodson called the next day with a full-tuition offer.

If there's any school that you really want to attend but it doesn't make fiscal sense because of other options, I would always tell them.

I did a very similar thing. Worst thing they can do is say no.

Thanks to both of you guys for your thoughts.

Would you advise letting WashU know ASAP, waiting till after revisit, or doing it some other time?

Probably doesn't matter, but I may wait till after revisit so that you'll have more justification for wanting to attend here 🙂

Does anyone know if people who are on the waitlist can attend second look? I have not received any info on it, which would lead me to believe no. However, I want to see the school again to verify I like it as much as I did during interview and confirm my desire to remain on the waitlist.

No - Second Look is only for accepted students and specially invited wait listed students. If you know you are on the wait list and have no invitation to Second Look, you cannot attend. However, you can probably call or email admissions and ask if it's possible to revisit on your own and meet with some current students or visit a course.

Does anyone know how many people are on the wait list and how many generally come off of it? Should I keep hope alive, or move on?

It looks like everyone was waitlisted....

I've heard 250 accepted, 500 WL, 250 rejected. This season had 250 accepted, BUT since there is a new dean AND because we havent heard anyone post anything but waitlist (no one said no news), it may be possible we were all waitlisted.

In years past people have gotten off...but who knows this year :/

The students made it sound like half the class was WLer's who got off (probably an exaggeration but means a good amount must). Since the same amount of initial acceptances were given out, I would assume it would be a similar number getting of the WL.
