Just because of this, I am going to refrain myself from sending an "in the area" email until a week or two from now.

Does Cornell have student hosting available for interviews? I feel like I read somewhere earlier in the thread about someone mentioning it but was unable to find it in the past two pages.

Kinda (I think). You can email them and they'll do their best to find you one, but it may be on really short notice - like a day or two before your interview. I'm just going to get a hotel to be safe.

They're so expensive! Maybe I'm just cheap, but $200 a night seems like a lot. Have you tried the Olin Hall people they gave in the interview invitation email?

EDIT: Haha, I laughed at myself. Yes, NYC is expensive, but when I go to medical school, I'll be prepared for the costs. Right now, I live in a pretty cheap area of the country and don't have a ton to spend on interviews.

Haha I'm going to try Olin Hall soon, now that I've officially moved my interview date. I'm getting student hosts for like all my other interviews, so I figured if I have to splurge for an expensive hotel once, it may as well be in the upper east side 🙂

September 17th now. They let me push it back a week since NYU is the 16th.

Edit: are you the 17th too? It seems like we have identical interview schedules 😛

How soon is too soon for an in the area email? I've only been complete here for a week but I'm going to be in new york mid september...

Hey all,

I'm applying for the tri-instutitional MD/PhD program. Does anyone know if your application is rerouted into the MD only pool if you are not offered an II?

Please let me know ASAP! Thanks!!

I think you have to also check the MD box on your application for the school. If you didn't check both then I doubt it will be entered into the MD pool.

If you are rejected from the MSTP, you have the option to email the medical admissions staff, and they will then consider you for MD only.

Interview invite just now! 😀 Whoohoo!!

That's surprising considering your MDApps didn't seem that impressive  But in all seriousness, congrats!! I'm sure there will be plenty more to come for you.

Thank you! I was offered dates from early September until just before mid-October.

For applicants called for interview: If you do not get accommodated with a current student at Olin or Lasdon, try Helmsley Towers. It is 500 feet from WCMC. This facility is mostly meant for patient relatives but will accommodate visitors if rooms are available. http://weillcornell.org/visit/accommodations/helmsley.html

Per night cost is around $250 for two queen sized beds with a kitchenette. Very spacious, comfortable and convenient. Room is big enough to be shared.

I was offered every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday from September 10th through October 10th. The email does include this note though: "We will not hold interviews on October 31, November 21, 27, 28, or December 24 - January 2, 2014."

I interviewed on Jan 3, 2013 for the incoming class of 2013 and am a current student. Interview is relaxed and about 45 min to 1 hour. Just started class on September 3. Olin Hall (Dorm) to class is around 500-1000 feet. Classes are wonderful. Faculty is very knowledgeable and funny. Love it.

I interviewed here earlier in the week. I really liked the school. And it was in a nice part of town. They're thinking about switching over to an 18 month basic sciences curriculum as well, which I'm way excited about.

Are there any current students here who can comment on the student body as far as competitiveness? I felt like over half of the applicants were 'putting on a show.' I was surprised after being at a few other big name schools and not seeing so much 'gunnerness'

II invite yesterday! So, so excited, as it's my first one due to my late MCAT scores. So pumped!!

Congrats to all of you who got interview invites! That's fantastic! If you don't mind my asking, when were you complete at Cornell?

Thanks! (and enjoy the II glow!!!!!)

Don't judge a school by the applicants you meet on interview day. Remember, they are not all getting accepted. It is much better to get a sense on revisit day. Each class is obviously different, but this is a collaborative school that really attracts laid back types and non - trads because of our curriculum letting us off at 1 pm every day in the first two years. Every now and then you get a couple of competitive people in a class, this happens at every school. There is no med school without a few competitive students, but the vast majority of the students are very open, and support one another.

Anyone here get an II with a 3.5-3.6 GPA? My MCAT is pretty solid but my GPA not so much.

wrote an 'in the area' email about a week ago and i was just about to give up on cornell and buy my plane ticket when they responded with an ii this morning! complete 8/19, LizzyM= 76. does anyone know who i should email to see if a student can host me? i emailed the interview coordinator about it but she only sent me back a generic 'your interview date has been confirmed for __' email.

When was the date they gave you? I gave an ITA email for end of October and I was just wondering if interview dates were around that time.
