2014-2015 Indiana University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hey, for those who got EDP offers, did everyone just get three pages of paper with a return envelope? Are we simply supposed to write a short memo with out decision on attendance and campus choice? I feel like a form for this would have been useful to include, but I received nothing of the sort and want to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Hey, same situation here. I went ahead and wrote a short email stating that I accepted, and that gave the my campus preference.

Yeah, I thought this was really strange. I was expecting like a small card to fill out and send back. I might call admissions today to see what they want.

To those EDPers accepted, did your letters come USPS, UPS, FedEx?

Got my offer of admission! OOS and ready to come to Indy!
That's awesome, OOS is a feat for IUSM! You must've had some awesome credentials. From where will you be joining us, and did you have ties to Indiana or what led you to join us in our fair state?

Thanks! I'm from CA. No family ties to IN, but I interviewed last cycle (didn't get in) and I fell in love with the place, the atmosphere is just great! I knew I would be happy coming here so I applied EDP and it all worked out!

EDP is the best decision I think I could have made for applying to medical school! I definitely recommend it to anyone who thinks they have a 75% chance of ending up at IU. I was so sure that even if I applied to a ton of other places that I would still end up at IU, so why not speed up the process and save a ton of money? And now I know I will be in Indy for sure! I don't have to stress about campus placement.

Also, for the admissions response, I just typed up a letter saying that I want to reserve my spot and be in Indy.

So...now what do I do? Thanking people and letting them know I got in is at the top of my list: all the doctors I shadowed, my premed advisor, my recommendation writers. It's so weird to be done with all this!

I got my email stating I would hear back in 4-6 weeks back on August 13th and it has been going on seven weeks now. Did anyone else's take that long for a reply?

Any EDPers that still haven't heard anything/received a letter? I haven't heard anything yet. I'm assuming this means I will be rolled-over into the general admission pool.🙁 Also I am assuming anyone still waiting will be notified of the roll-over via the portal tomorrow. At any rate, if any other EDPers are still waiting to hear back, let me know! We will all know for certain tomorrow!

Accepted! (According to my applicant portal, which changed at 12:01.) How could my letter possibly take so long to arrive? (Made the last 48 hours a terrible cycle of self-doubt and considering every possibly aspect of the application process that may have prevented me from being accepted.) At any rate, I hope to see some of you guys in Indy next fall!

Congrats! I know the feeling receiving mine Monday instead of Saturday, lol. I was convinced that was a terrible sign. Go celebrate!

Is this a pre-secondary rejection? Because my MCAT results came in already

Review of your application to Indiana University School of Medicine has been deferred pending receipt of your MCAT scores. We encourage you to check your email frequently for information updates.

Thank you for considering Indiana University School of Medicine for your medical education.

With many thanks,

Doesn't seem like it. It's probably a mistake if you took the MCAT a while ago. If you took it recently, you should probably just wait. Maybe call them?

I received the same message prior to my MCAT score release. AAMC said that IU would receive my score automatically and that my application would then be considered. Please update if you have found anything different. Thanks

After submitting the interview confirmation, should I receive anymore emails about the interview?

The MSAR is going to be your best source of statistics. It may not be quite as comprehensive as the questions you just asked, but it is straight from the AAMC so you have assurance that it's accurate. The cost is small compared to what you'll spend in the application process, and it may ward you away from applying to some very in-state favoring programs or ones that tend to accept students with stats beyond your own.

Does anyone know how many people were accepted early decision this year?

Of the EDP do you know how many have deferred over to regular? It was mentioned earlier in the thread how many people get in if they go EDP and I wondered about anyone who gets rejected EDP. I will apply EDP if my MCAT meets the requirement next year, so I am wondering if it is still a good deal.

Received a receipt notification on 8/8 and haven't heard anything since. Anyone in the same boat?
Same here. I received the receipt on 7/31st.
Did you retake the MCAT? I retook it in mid August, and I think that is why it is taking them extra weeks to review my materials.

Deeply appreciate it 🙂

Yes I did, I got my score back August 26th!
I got my score back around 9/16. You should probably call the admissions office or something. I sent them an email on Friday regarding the status of my application, and I'm waiting to hear back from them.

Yeah I emailed, I guess I'll call tomorrow

Any ideas on cheap/regular hotels around Indy Campus that offers shuttle rides?

I chose the West Lafayette campus! If anyone else (preferably male) is looking for housing there, let me know! I'm looking for something close to Lyles-Porter Hall.

Hello everyone,
I chose the Indianapolis Campus. I currently live near downtown (near the IUSM campus).

What are some of the nice, safe areas downtown? Right now, I'm leaning towards an apartment in one of the northern suburbs, but not having a 1/2 hr+ commute would be nice.

So I interviewed here earlier this month and one of my letters still hasn't been processed.
I guess that means I won't be up for consideration during the first adcom meeting. Super super sadface.
):

I almost chose WL, but I decided to go for Indianapolis after speaking with several current med students at various campuses.

Has anyone who was accepted EDP and mailed back their response gotten their portal updated yet? I mailed my letter a week and a half ago and it hasn't been updated yet.

I mailed mine around then and it still hasn't been updated. Additionally, I had my transcripts sent and released my background check results and neither of those fields have been updated either.

Submitted my primary August 22nd and it was verified on the Sept. 2nd....still haven't heard anything....should I be worried?
