2014-2015 Johns Hopkins University Application Thread

Honestly the December 12th decision day makes even more sense this year because tomorrow (Dec 12th) is a Friday, meaning their final discussions will be complete for the week, and they would be making calls/sending emails. I don't think the 13 or 14 would bring any news, but if we haven't heard anything by the 12th, I'm almost positive decisions will come out on the 15th. My money is on tomorrow. Been waiting for this day for a long time. Best of luck to everyone, I'm hoping for good news all around!

Tomorrow could quite possibly be one of the best days of your life! Or not so much...

To say that I'm nervous would be an understatement.

Good luck guys! :luck: @CTU Surgeon is right; tomorrow may very well be a life-changing day (in the good sort) for some of y'all! Here's to hoping for across the board acceptances. 😉

They are silent! But look at it this way everyone - if you have a legit shot at Hopkins you are going to get into some pretty baller med schools. So no worries!

Judging from the abnormally brief FB update, no II going out today neither. 🙁

Lolol. My hope died when I saw the post.
It doesn't help that the Director of Yale said Hopkins was also an amazing institution just a few days ago. Now I'm SO curious!

I can't believe this!!!!!! I got in!!!

My god it's a dream come true!

Edit: email from Valerie mazza's telling me to log into status page, where you click a link directing you to your decision.

Sweet Giuseppe Garibaldi. Accepted and utterly shocked. Never in my wildest dreams did I think this was possible. So so so grateful – this just goes to show you that post-interview impressions don't mean a thing (I swear I bombed my interview here).

I've got my fingers crossed for those still waiting. To those in: I can't wait to meet you guys at second look! This school is a special, special place and I am truly humbled to have the chance to be a part of it.

Soo what happens if you don't get an email? I know I should probably just wait before worrying..but I haven't gotten anything yet. also: super happy for everyone that got in!!!

This was the most suspenseful acceptance (having to go multiple places before finally seeing the decision). I still can't believe it! Congrats on your acceptance. Do you happen to know the date for second look. I didn't see it in the letter (or maybe I'm just to excited to comprehend anything lol).

Super huge congrats as well! Yes, it was! I thought that good news came out via phone call and no-so-good news via portal, so I initially thought this was the end of the road. Didn't see a peep about second look, but they'll probably send a follow-up email in the coming weeks/months.

Awh, I'm pretty crestfallen @ProbablyAPenguin. 🙁 Fingers crossed for a short (and positive) stay on the waitlist!

WOW was not expecting a decision today---but so thrilled to be accepted!!! It took forever to find it though, haha! Congrats to everyone else, too!

Anyone find the "letter of intent" to be worded a bit definitively?

yup same here! I also thought that acceptances only went out via phone calls so I was mentally preparing for the worst of the worst when I opened up the link. Definitely made the reaction to the news that much more violent and I almost made my dad crash the car with my screams lol

Congrats on your acceptance! This letter of intent thing seems to come up every year. You are under no obligation to Hopkins until May 15th. Hold as many acceptances as you want until then. But do turn in the letter if you want a seat saved for you.

They mentioned at my interview this week that second look is april 9-12th. Congrats to all those accepted!!

Hm... Probably wouldn't be the best way (or time) to go, would it? Knowing me, I probably would have successfully avoided the car crash, and then proceeded to crash the car anyway after finding out what you were screaming about. I'm glad your father has more nerves of steel than I do.

Does anyone know how strict Hopkins is on ochem lab? I took ochem 1 & 2 but at my alma mater ochem lab is a separate course (which I didn't take).

From the website: "Organic chemistry with laboratory, one semester (4 semester hours) are required."

If you took Ochem1 lab you should be fine, but regardless you should definitely call and ask. It was my understanding they would mention on acceptance letters if students still need to take any classes prior to matriculating. Judging from FB posts, they seem pretty strict on requirements.

Thanks for the response. I appreciate it!

Anyone know off the top of their head how much movement on the Alternate List occurs and when that normally happens?

I remember on my interview day the dean said an average of 20-22 per year. Anyone else hear this?

According to last year's thread it is around ~50. Someone even mentioned that number being posted on the admission's FB page last year! But I would trust synapis more since his/her source is more credible.

Rejected just now as well (pre-interview). Complete on 9/8, LizzyM ~75. Wasn't expecting to get an II here anyway, but worth the shot!
Good look to everyone else still in the running!

Rejected post-secondary! It was definitely a reach school, but I would've been disappointed had I not applied! Congratulations to ALL who have been accepted!!!!!!!!

Rejection, complete mid-Sept, LizzyM 75+. Good luck to those waiting for interviews!

Aaaaaandd Rejected. I was kind-of expecting this, but always held out hope for an II. See you on ERAS Hopkins!

Joining the rejection train. Seeya later JHU.
