"Does anyone know if you can submit your secondary without AMCAS having received your letters of recommendation? On the secondary it says: "
Before submitting your Secondary Application, please ensure that all authors whom you are expecting to submit recommendations on your behalf are listed above. If authors are not listed, please confirm that their recommendations have been submitted to the AMCAS Letter Service."
Does this mean that you can't submit the secondary until the letters are available, or that you just have to indicate the letters you are expecting on AMCAS?"
+1
Not fair! Does the 2 week rule not apply if your committee doesn't send any letters until August!?!
I'm still waiting on the secondary. I haven't picked letter writers yet. Could this be why I haven't gotten it?
so you're saying that the people who you want to write you letters dont know they have to write them yet?
I have all my letters on amcas. Just haven't applied them to my schools yet. Little did I know I didn't send my primary to this school. I guess it's hard to get a secondary when they don't even know I'm applying!
My committee letter agreement said August 15th so I was worried about the same thing. They magically uploaded it 7/1 which I am SO shocked it's done... keep your head up, yours will be in soon too!Same here, my committee doesn't send out the letter packet for a while 🙁
Hello🙂 I don't think physical therapist or MPH would count cuz these fall under the sciences. Working for the govt is alright I thinkFor the question: If you couldn't work in health care or the sciences, what career would you choose and why?
What exactly defines healthcare? Would a physical therapist? What about getting a Masters in Public Health and doing something in government?
I wrote mine about public health. The community development aspect of public health is non-science and I think it would be suitable for this essay.I actually was going to write mine about public health- PH is science-based when talking about infectious disease and microbiology, biostatistics, and possibly epidemiology. I would argue @Rollerbladdin and @bruinforhuman that a social/behavioral or community health public health track would not be classified as science.
I believe public health falls under the health care aspect of the question.
Actually, I semi-retract that statement, although I believe most of public health is considered part of health care.
Here's my reasoning on this: I have a background in public health research. I wouldn't call the project I'm working on currently healthcare OR science. I'm trying to be honest with this question, because working in public health is actually my backup career. Public health doesn't involve working directly with patients to treat them so that's why I don't consider it healthcare. Public health can be a science, especially in public health research, but I think one can swing it as a non-science if you focus on the non-scientific aspects of public health, such as improving the infrastructure of the community and health education.
It was either that or write about the cupcake shop I want to open.
Thats what i sent. Never seen a school not want a composite letterDoes anyone know if a composite letter is accepted by this school? I understand they want a letter packet, but my school only sends out composite letters, which is one letter created from all the individual letters.
Thanks
I submitted my secondary, but have a pending MCAT score that I indicated on my primary app. Do they review my application right away, or do they wait? I'm confused because the website for the school says that a completed application consists of primary, secondary, and recommendation. Nothing about MCAT.
Most schools wait, right?
I was surprised by this requirement as well. The secondary instructions mention four letters a few times, and the lines are written in bold. I called about it, and an admissions representative mentioned that the application would be put on hold until 4 letters are received. She recommended that I submit as soon as possible though, so perhaps they record the date/time of submission.Anyone know how strict they are on the four letter requirement? I only have 3. Should I not bother submitting the secondary?
I'm wondering this as well, I'm interested in surgical specialties but I don't know if writing about being interested in surgery will get my app tossed since they focus on primary care.
Thanks for the reply, I ended up saying I was interested in a surgical specialty. I figure it's more important to be honest and write about what you're passionate about instead of feeding them what you think they want to hear. We'll see what happens from here on out.I was accepted off the wait-list during last year's cycle. At my interview I talked about my strong interest in Family Medicine, but my interviewer seemed almost disappointed and replied that every applicant interviewed claimed primary care interests. I got the sense that with 50% in primary care, this new school needs some good chunk of students going after highly competitive specialties to set a reputation for the school. Match lists are quite important.
Just to be clear.. so you cannot submit the secondary until all your letters are in?
Just want to make sure because then I can work on another secondary while waiting on letters (otherwise, I would submit it tomorrow )
You don't need a "non science professor" per say. It only says that two must be science. The other two could be anything else. A doctor you have shadowed or volunteer administrator.I wonder how strict they are on the non-science recommendation. I've got four letters now, but my non-science letter writer is lagging it badly.

You scared me. My non science I found out didn't sign it so it takes me out of 3 schools unless I can get it fixed.Ahhh, you're right. I just double checked. I'm starting to get mixed up with all the secondaries I'm trying to complete. lol
