2014-2015 Quinnipiac University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I regret to inform you that the decision has been made not to send you

a Secondary Application in order to complete your application to the

Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine at Quinnipiac University.

I understand that this news is disappointing and it is my hope that you

will be admitted to one of the other medical schools to which you have

applied so that you can embark on a medical education.

Well. I guess they screen pretty harshly!

I wouldn't say that they screen harshly, but most schools wont look at an app with an sgpa lower than 3.0. hopefully atleast one med school will look at your post bac classes and give u a chance. if you dont hear back from schools by december (which could be a good thing if they are waiting to see your first semester grades in the post bac) definitely send an update letter

Im not sure if this was posted earlier but you can submit your application as long as the letters have been designated to be sent to Quinnipac through AMCAS.

Of course the application will not be complete until the letters have been received. Hope this helps!

The page on the secondary says "Before submitting your Secondary Application, please ensure that all authors whom you are expecting to submit recommendations on your behalf are listed above. If authors are not listed, please confirm that their recommendations have been submitted to the AMCAS Letter Service." So since my committee letter isn't uploaded yet, I think I'm going to hold off on submitting. Quinnipiac also say in the email with the secondary that you should do it within two weeks or as soon as your letters are available. In case anyone else hasn't submitted yet and was wondering about this, those are my two cents.

I know many students in medical schools with lower GPAs. I went to the hardest school in the country. :/

Guys what LORs did you submit? I got the idea that they only want committee/ letter packet, although I have more from volunteering/shadowing.

I submitted 2 science letters (1 from undergraduate, 1 from post-bachelor), 1 from my phlebotomy manager, and 1 from an extracurricular that is significant to my app. Hope this helps.

Anybody submit without having all four letters in yet? I only have three so far, and the fourth will be submitted next week. I'm trying to keep within their suggested two week window.

so annoyed that I can't submit until letters are in!

For those on the quarter system - how did you input your course units? Did you take them off your AMCAS application as converted? Or what it says on your transcript?

I guess I should e-mail them.

Takes a few days - I'd give them up to a week before calling/emailing. Goodness knows how many calls they get every day about this (I know someone who works in admissions in a med school, and he says that at some conferences he's been to where members give each other tips or something of the sort, nearly everyone has this complaint)

Re: quarter system units. I received a reply today that I should list courses as they appear on my transcript. If they have any concerns, they will look at the transcript. Hope this helps anyone else wondering about how to enter their courses.

My committee letter has been received but the application still marks my "Letters of Recommendation" with the red exclamation point. Anyone else have this problem?

I do too. I assume it's just a hold up in their system. Hopefully it will turn to green soon!

So I submitted before my committee letter was in, thinking that when they received the AMCAS letter that was enough as it was designated on there. There wasn't a line though on the secondary form that there is now, as my pre-medical committee letter is in. Having stated they received the letter under documentation, it still says not received and app not complete on my application page. I tried calling twice today but nobody answered. I was wondering if maybe someone knows if I should have waited to check the box until it arrived, or if they will at some point change my status to received. Or maybe someone was in the same scenario as me previously and hopefully has it corrected now. Thanks!

I didn't know they required 4 letters, and sent them the same 3 that I've been sending other schools. My application was marked as complete. I guess I have to call them and ask how to submit a 4th letter that wasn't designated.

This is strange, they received all of my recommendations already but I am still not marked as complete. I can see all of my letters listed when I click on the "Document Status" tabs. Should I be worried?

how bad does it look that I haven't been able to submit within the recommended 2 week frame?

Would like to know as well... aiming to send it in tomorrow, when I know my last rec letter will be in, which is just before the 3 week mark.

Hi all! Would a letter from my science research mentor satisfy one of the two required science letters? If it helps, I also received credit for research.

This might be a dumb question, but for this essay prompt:
If you couldn't work in health care or the sciences, what career would you choose and why?

Is working in the engineering field considered the sciences? I was a biomedical engineering major in my undergrad and was really interested in medical devices and in chemical engineering applications. Is it still considered the sciences? Its kind of hard prompt for me because all of my career choices are at least science or healthcare related.

Thanks for anyone's input.

Just my opinion, i tried to steer as far away from science as possible.

for the first question, is it best to be honest or write about what fits their mission.

What in your life experience or philosophy will help you work effectively in health care with patients and colleagues whose life experiences have been different from your own?

In this prompt is it ok to integrate couple of different experiences that go hand in hand?

I would say yes.

Thanks, I was thinking to avoid it, but I wasn't a 100% if they would view it as science or not. Back to the drawing boards, I guess.

I have the same problem. Document tab shows all of my letters as being there almost 2 weeks ago, but my application status tab still says letters haven't been received and my application is not completed.

I'm in the same boat. Submitted/letters received almost a week ago.

I asked them if a letter from my neuroscience PI would suffice from the psychology dept and they said: "A letter from a PI would suffice even though their department is psychology."

You should be good to go as well.

submitted...i was past the 2 week recommended deadline.hope that doesn't reflected poorly on me

I know, I submitted on the 15th day..
This is a dumb question, but if they sent me the II on the 1st and I submitted it on the 15th is it within the 2 weeks or over it by a day LOL?
