2014-2015 Quinnipiac University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For being a new school, Frank H. Netter seems to be really popular. Anyone know why? I have to admit though, I'm pretty excited for this school as well! For me, I think it is the fact that they seem very student oriented. Looking at their faculty, it also looks like they put together a talented and experienced faculty.

They have a good hockey team lol for me yes for others no, despite them pending accrediting I think people are attracted to it because it's a decent name and takes people with lower stats

Are there any current medical students from Netter that can comment on how well they assist students with scholarships?

does anyone know how this school reviews multiple mcat scores?

Is it too late to apply here? I wanted to add more schools. 33/3.5sGPA OOS

Hi all. Interviewed the other day and it was great. Just some information I gleaned from information sessions I thought you guys might be interested in.

They're thinking of increasing the enrollment to 125 for this new class but might still keep it at 90 until 2016.

They have already received 6000 applications and it is only early September.

They're saying that they'll likely interview about 500 people (unsure what will happen if they increase size to 125).

30-50 percent of the class comes off the wait list.

How soon after submitting secondaries are people getting II?

Lat year, Quinnipiac received ~1900 applications. Did they specify whether they received 6,000 primary or completed secondary applications?

Guys I'm worried. I was complete mid July (that's when my MCAT score came in) and I haven't heard anything 🙁

congrats! when were you complete?
it said submitted 7/16/14 (my secondary). my LOR were in way before that, so I'm assuming that is when I was complete?

What time are people getting II emails on the east coast ? Are they all sent out, complete mid August so not expecting one soon just wondering...

My interview invite came in the late morning (around 11 AM EST)

i'm getting worried and i'm confused. I was complete 7/14 and people after this date have heard something back. does this mean they passed on my app? silent rejection?

on the secondary status site, if there is a green checkmark next to everything and it says "your application is ready!", does that mean i am "complete" for their purposes? or will i receive further communication when i am complete?

I believe that means you are "complete". I submitted mine roughly 3-4 weeks ago and it's the exact same as when I first submitted

Does anyone know if Quinnipiac is receptive to in the area emails? I have an interview in Boston next month and I'm flying out from the west coast..

Hey so does anyone know if Quinnipiac takes the most recent MCATor best MCAT, or what is their policy with MCAT scores?

I didn't read the secondary invite email really and didn't know they wanted the secondary within 2 weeks. In the meantime I had an operation and was only able to turn it in after 4 weeks. Secondary received 6/30, secondary sent 7/28. How screwed am I?

It wouldn't hurt to call them and explain the situation.

Or e-amil

I shouldn't have said I was only able to turn it in 4 weeks later. I was able to turn it in earlier but I wanted to get other secondaries done before my surgery, ones that weren't so time consuming and for schools I wanted to go to more. The surgery was in late July. So not a good excuse. Ugh. So frustrated with myself cause I really like this school and see that I was a competitive applicant there.

I would still call and say you had surgery. Yolo

I wonder if anyone bothers to even look at completion dates in terms of how close they are to when they sent you the secondary. And this is for all schools. Imagine you going through thousands of applicants....perhaps dates are not as important in this sense? But who knows?

At the open house for maryland, the dean of admissions said the completion dates of primary and secondary were the first things he looks at when he opens an app. Other people are probably different.

One of the adcoms here mentioned that for their school, only the date when the secondary was submitted was available on the application, so they did not even know how long the applicant took to fill it in. There is certainly variability between different schools.

I sure hope the turnaround time isn't a deciding factor. I sent the secondary back within a week, but then my committee letter took three more weeks to get in.

Yeah, the reason I didn't submit my secondary right away was because I was waiting on letters. I emailed them to ask if I should just submit anyway and they told me to actually wait til my letters were in AMCAS..

To those interviewing:

Extremely relaxed and conversational 1-on-1 interviews. The assessment on fit felt like one of the biggest factors for interview evaluations - I wasn't even interviewed by an M.D.! Interdisciplinary collaboration is HUGE at Netter, so my advice - Just be yourself! Congrats to those who have upcoming interviews here!!

Interview Invite today! I turned in my secondary on 7/13 and had not heard anything up until now. On their site it added an interview tab 🙂

I retook my MCAT on the same day as you, so I would say they look positively at the increase!

Did you get an email?

Hey guys, current M1 here. I remember that the application process was pretty stressful when I was going through it, so I thought I'd try to answer any questions that you might have and hopefully assuage any fears.

So...yeah any questions?

So they're still looking at July applicants for interviews? They must have gotten way too many applicants then 🙁

Hi. I had a quick question: I interviewed towards mid to late August, I was wondering when can we expect to hear back? Thanks a lot🙂

I can only speak from personal experience, but I interviewed late February last year and was accepted outright in the first week of April. This seems to keep with the 6 week timeline that they told me during my interview.

I'd imagine that early interviewees would hear back more quickly.

Also, for everyone worried about not putting primary care as your career interest: Don't worry, it's fine. We have a lot of M1's who said that they weren't sure about what field they wanted to go into.

Like you guys, I felt that the school was really pushing primary care while I was applying. Once we started school, there really hasn't been too much emphasis on it - they explicitly said that they want us to train us to have a "primary care mindset" (having broad understanding and big-picture perspective), no matter if we go into derm or pediatrics.
