I'm a girl! Obviously they will see when we meet up in person! But I need help to off set the cost of hotel and ride, especially since because I cannot drive and planned to take uber.

Don't take uber from O hare it will cost like 200 dollars. My friend did that. You should try to take the train.

Flat fare for a taxi is around $70

Welcome to NYC!

i was able to book a rental car for 58 through costco

american taxi was $45 from o'hare

Thanks for all your help! Idk why, but my uber app says it'll only cost me around $50 to get to O'Hare. I can't take the public transportation bc I plan to leave at around 5-5:30, and my flight is at 7:55. From what I've gathered, it takes almost two hours by bus. Maybe someone can give me advice as to what bus/train I can take to get there in under 2 hours?

When I went there were several people who were leaving straight to O'hare after the interviews. We had planned to split a cab but ended up riding with another interviewee who had rented a car. It'll work itself out as long as you are open and friendly.

I have an interview this Friday, and I am flying in Thursday night. I will get to the airport ~10:40PM!

1. What is the best way to get to the hotel? (I am staying in courtyard Marriott because it runs the shuttle to the school)
2. I am planning on getting on a cab. Are there cabs available at this hour? Should I expect like 60-70 bucks? ... (I read some previous posts)
3. For those of you who stayed at courtyard Marriott, how often does the shuttle run?

Thanks so much in advance and sorry for bombarding you guys with so many questions in one post.
Hope all of you have a great day!

Hey! I'll echo the other poster and say that while the MMI wasn't exactly like other ones, it was still very enjoyable! Felt like I had less time to think before each scenario, but it's made up for with getting to pin down your thoughts so that you don't forget them before going in.

Good luck!

Thanks so much! Hope you have a wonderful day!

The only thing I can talk about are cabs since I stayed with family when I interviewed. If you are getting a cab from O'Hare, call American Cab ahead of time to reserve it. If you say you want a suburb taxi it's significantly cheaper than a city taxi. Still probably about $60 plus but a city taxi will be more expensive.

Hey all, so what is the consensus on the best area to stay and how to get around? I've never been to Chicago so I was going to fly into O'Hare, get a hotel downtown and explore the day before, then taxi to the interview and then back to the airport. Good or bad idea? I would totally take public transportation if anyone can recommended anything

I wish I had stayed downtown and taken the train to and from the interview rather than taking a hotel near the school and train into the city the day before. Would have saved both time and $$$.

Have a great day!

Apologies if someone has already clarified this, but I'm a bit confused on my status! So I sent in my secondary July 23rd, was marked with "application complete" on August 11th, and just today (November 18th) I received an email that said "Primary Screening Complete".

So basically... where am I in the process? I'm a little bit confused. Is i good to have heard back with "Primary Screening Complete" almost 3 months after they marked my application complete? Thanks!

Please ignore all communication from the school that is not an interview invitation. No other communication matters. Until you receive an interview invitation, you can not be accepted.

I see! I guess I was wondering what this last mail meant? Is it some sort of hold?

Have a great day!

I didn't actually, because I have family in Chicago and I used my cousin's car. I did call for a cab when my flight was canceled so I could go back to their house and I called them, and they immediately dispatched a taxi to the airport for me. I think you can reserve at any time but I think you'd be fine calling as soon as you get off the plane. Just make sure it's american taxi and make sure you say you want a suburb taxi.

As Tantacles said, I don't think it means much. I got the same email you did and then received an II a couple weeks later. However, some people that have received that email also haven't heard anything else at all

II as well! Yay! So very excited.

I saw above someone speculated a 25% accept/50% waitlist/25% reject post-interview... would anyone know if this is true/can be confirmed? I've heard of other schools having a pretty high accept percentage post interview, somewhere between 40-50%.

Thanks!

According to MSAR, a 25% acceptance rate post interview is impossible. They interview 632 and 190 matriculated. If they accepted 25% that only means 158 acceptances...I would assume they over accept like many other schools do. I would assume that they send out close to double the amount of acceptances as they have matriculating seats so this would mean acceptance rate of 50-60% if 380 acceptances are given out. Someone correct my math if I am wrong hahaha good luck to everyone!

Well if they do 50% wait list with those numbers....I guess they hit that wait list hard lol!

Keep in mind that >50 of the acceptances go to the BMS class and PMP, two pre-matriculation programs that feed directly into the school, so the actual number is a bit lower.

Thanks so much! I actually reserved it through their website.
Hope you have a great night!

As an OOS student they interview 315 people and matriculated 80 ~25%. Of course this would be an approximation based on MSAR data and it is know that they usually accept ~2 x more than actually matriculate. 😉

Received this email 16 weeks after submitting secondary. Does this mean I've been small pooled?

Dear Applicant:

At this time, your application to the Chicago Medical School is under consideration with the Admissions Committee. We thank you for your patience throughout this process.

The Chicago Medical School conducts interviews from September- April, with invitations being sent out via email. Please note we cannot accept any additional information or materials for your file, unless it concerns an Institutional Action, Felony, Misdemeanor or Military Discharge. Means nothing! Ignore all communication except interview invitations.

FYI some interview dates have opened up for Dec. Anyone want to hazard a guess when the adcom might meet in Dec? I'm thinking of moving my interview up from Jan. to one of the mid-Dec dates, but not sure if that would actually catch the monthly adcom meeting...

Just do whatever is most convenient for you. Spots for admission remain open until April; there is no such thing as interviewing for the waitlist at this school.

II on 11/7! Sorry for the delay... been lurking for a while and finally decided to create an account. I'm so excited to get an interview from this school as a reapplicant from last year. 3.4c, 3.3s, 35R (11p, 11v, 13b). Scheduled to interview on 1/7. Really excited for this school and the MMI format!

When did you submit secondary? Still not a peep.

Do you know a good way to prepare for MMI? This will be my first MMI.

Do you know a good way to prepare for MMI? This will be my first MMI.

Just had a MMI at another school. There really is no way to formally prepare for these (that's why schools like them). The best way to prepare would be to understand two sides of common ethical dilemmas in a clinical setting, knowing some policy (current problems with healthcare, projections on the ACA possibly). Just being a quick thinker and "grace under pressure" is the best way to succeed.

Be prepared for people to be hard on you about your ethical stance (they play devil's advocate) and defend yourself despite resistance (conservatively, of course). Don't be surprised if you get a really good actor hired to act as a patient who is in a tricky situation and you have to talk through it with the patient.

Speaking of MMi, does anyone know whether this school does actor portrayal where we would have to role play or is it just sit at table to answer questions given based on the scenarios by an interviewer?

Given the confidentiality agreement we all sign, not sure if we can say... But they give you a briefing on the MMI format prior to the interviews to familiarize you with the format.

Yeah, I didn't really understand why there wasn't any feedback on SDN until after my interview. As annoying as it may seem to those who haven't interviewed yet, the confidentiality agreement is to make the interview a fair experience for everyone. Just do your best 🙂

Hey so idk what time you're planning to arrive at the airport, but I would recommend trying to arrive at O'hare by 5:30ish. O'hare is a huge airport and depending on what day your flight is security could easily take an hour and a half-two hours. Source: I fly out of O'hare a lot

Seriously?? That's completely ridiculous. I thought I ordered my flight back with some leeway for the after-interview get-together. Ugh, maybe I'll try to leave at 5 and take a uber/cab then. Thanks so much for your headsup! 🙂

If you are not checking bags, I would say it takes 30-40 min tops to get through security (I have been flying out of O'hare 3 or 4 times a week lately). Sometimes 10-15 minutes. With bags, it depends on the airline and time of day. Sometimes you can valet check a bag on the curb, so that will save you time (it may cost a bit more but it is worth it)

It's never taken more than 30 minutes for me to get through security. Last time I flew through O'Hare it took a max of 10 minutes. They move pretty quickly. Yes it is a large airport but they get things done!

Thank you, everyone, for your advice! So many different opinions! Lol, now I'm confused as to when I should start heading to the airport.
