2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Sadly, 9/5 conflicted with another interview so I chose 9/24. But I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get to the hotel.
Public transportation takes like 4 hours...
By any chance do you know what the environment is like over there? Like...is it dangerous to travel alone during the evening?

If you're that far from campus, I would recommend either staying in a hotel or driving from where you live that morning. You don't want to be at the liberty of public transportation on one of the most important days of your life. And even if you were to take public transportation, the metra station is still a ways away from the school. When I interviewed I stayed in a hotel like 5 minutes away from the school, and there are taxis from ohare airport and in town here to take you to and from your hotel/the airport on the day of your interview. Right around the school isn't that dangerous, but you certainly don't want to be walking a mile + alone at night around here.

Err...do you guys think it would look bad to choose a later interview date? I'm debating between 9/24 and 10/8. 🤔 It would save me a plane trip because i'll be in the area around that time.

That likely won't make a difference. They can't start sending out acceptances until late October anyway so you'll likely still get reviewed during their first meeting.

Oh okay, thank you for informing me. By any chance do you remember which hotel you stayed at? Was it 5 minute walking distance or driving?

Crickets here as well. I really had high hopes to get a chance at Rosalind! :'( How much do you think it'll hurt me if I don't have a LOR from a physician? My letters were sent in a letter packet and my LOR from a physician was coming in separately. They said they only read the first 3 so I decided to complete my application before I had the doctor LOR on file.

At this point, unless you're a very borderline candidate with a mediocre application going in, it likely won't make or break you. I didn't have one from a doctor until after I was interviewed and I just sent it in as an update to the school, which actually helped get me off the alternate list I think.

Driving. There's no hotels within walking distance of the school. But I think if you check the RFUMS website, they have a discount code for some close hotels for interviewees. They used to before they revamped the website anyway...

I have a hotel room for 9/4 with two full beds at the lovely Ramada Inn 4 miles from the school and a lovely rental car. Who wants to join me????

II!!:soexcited: Interviewing 9/5! My first interview of the year. This was an amazing unexpected gift today, it definitely paid off to apply broadly and early this time around. OOS Reapplicant 30 MCAT, 3.8 GPA. See you guys at the interview.

Congrats! Do you mind sharing when you were complete?

It's too early. Many people don't have physician letters; no one cares as long as the ones you do have are great.

Alright...I officially give up on this whole public transportation plan. :arghh:

Message me if you're looking for someone to split the cost for a taxi/shared ride van/rental car/etc.
My interview date is 9/24. I will be landing at Midway International Airport on 9/23 and plan to leave right after my interview on 9/24.

If you don't receive a small pool email, does that mean you've been rejected?
No, if you receive a rejection email, then you'v been rejected. Otherwise, just wait patiently. Some people got interviews the other day and weren't "small pooled."

EDIT: nevermind, changed my transportation plans so this post isn't valid anymore!

I forgot to add the physician letter but did it after.

I added based of MSAR 2014 (which was really dumb, didn't realize), so I uploaded six by accident. I emailed them and they said that the rules on the website are actually just recommendations, and they will review three of my letters. So it still sucks, but it shouldn't ruin your chances.

Cool, thanks for the info. I have 2 science, 1 nonscience, and 1 MD but they'll only read 3.. hope its the 2 science and 1 MD.

Have a slim chance here though.. 3.5/28 OOS. But I am in a generous mood today and thought I'd make a donation to RFU 😛 😉

similar stats 3.8, 27mcat OOS. Good luck!

I also sent 4 (idk why I didn't check the MSAR or website first) but I got an II, so it shouldn't impact your chances at all 🙂

II OOS 73...

So many dates to choose from! Was 9/26 or 9/29 ever available??? My fam has tickets to Chicago bears that Sunday .... would've been perfect

No those were never dates. They changed the way they are interviewing this year so there are a lot fewer interview dates, with bigger groups each day.

Did anyone from the ambiguously worded "small pool" email on 8/21 get an II?

I just did today. The "primary screening" one right?

That's the one. Congrats! I was hoping they just hadn't made it to our date yet. Hopefully I am still in the running even though I didn't get an II with the wave.

Good luck my friend!

II today! Want so badly to make the 9/5 interview date but I miss five days of work in a row. And it's SO EXPENSIVE.

Can't do 9/24 because I have another interview the 25th across the country. I think 10/3 is my date...

Do you all think it will hurt my chances to do it in October versus September? I want so badly to make the 9/5... Thoughts, words of wisdom? I'm already down in the midwest in October because of an October 10 interview in Michigan so the 3rd would be perfect.

messaged.

II, interview the 24th. Looking for someone to split cabs/hotel with. Coming from Los Angeles...
Message me!

II today...this makes 9 II's so far. I hope taking a later date to interview doesn't hurt my chances. I will be interviewing all semester so I really don't have an option, but I doubt they'll understand that. Good luck to everyone that applied here. I really dig this program.

9 II! That's awesome! Congrats! I haven't heard a single positive thing from a school yet. No small pools, nothing🙁 Can I ask your stats? And any tips, God forbid I have to reapply next cycle?

Just sit tight and relax. It's not even September yet!! This is the busiest time of year for admissions, they can't get to every single application they've received thus far.

Okay, scheduled my interview for September 5! Who else is here on 9/5? I fly into O'Hare at 8:30 am on 9/4.

PM me and I will go over my stats, application and algorithm I used for success. However, I don't have an acceptance letter in hand yet, so the recipe isn't proven. With that said, I spent a ton of time getting ready for this cycle and it looks to be paying off. I don't mind sharing. I have an above average GPA in a really hard degree plan but I also have a marginal MCAT score, so it is possible to beat out all the kids with these ridiculous MCAT scores if you play your cards right.

Don't you have 11 years of experience doing things almost no other applicant has done? Not hating at all, just saying your situation is far different then the typical premed which makes it hard to compare applications or give advice given your uniqueness.

Can anyone shed some light on the interview day? The time for my interview says 11 am to 2pm, but I am reading forums from last year, and people are saying their day went from 8:30 to 2pm...so what time do I actually need to be there at?

Will I receive information on who is interviewing me?

Is it 2 interviews? Standard 1 on 1s? groups interviews?

Thanks in advance.

Anybody know the stats on how many IIs they send out? Raw numbers or % of tota applicantsl? Just curious as to the number of IIs to acceptances
