2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
someone different probably wrote the second email lol

anyone know when II start? Or have they already...........

Very many applicants. Very long to review applicants. Email is exactly what it says. We have passed a screening, and are a under review. Perhaps sent out because of many calls about the process taking so long. Didn't have the email last year? Did not have as many applicants last year. Under review is always a good thing. You are not rejected. You are not on hold, but I would also not say it is a small pool. Everybody calm down

really fascinated by the way they score out of 125. I wonder how subjective the science GPA score is, e.g. accounting for upward trends (I go from 2.6 freshman year to 3.9 senior year, but overall BCPM is still low 🤔)

Typically toward the end of August. They start interviewing in early September and they give interviewees a few weeks notice prior to the available dates.

Thank you for letting us know that. So this email must be a differently worded small pool?

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Until you get an e-mail inviting you to interview, you should ignore any other communications about your application.

Heh, I don't understand why no one is listening to you. Most schools don't even accept status updates until after you get an II, so what use is there in knowing or caring anything else...

I will continue to repeat it until I am blue in the face.

I don't think anybody is ignoring him. Everyone here is an analytical person that really cares about their future and hence, this application cycle. We get that being pooled or making it past the preliminary review may not be a big deal or mean anything besides that we are not rejected. That being said, it is completely natural to wonder about what the people potentially deciding what we will be doing for the next four years are thinking. We aren't running around the room screaming and ripping our hair out or anything, simply wondering and inquiring in confidence amongst a group of peers in the same situation. If we shouldn't talk about our application then what else are we supposed to be talking about?

My cousin called them up (she's also applying this cycle) and an admissions officer told her that there is no difference between the small pool e-mail that was sent out a while ago, and the one that many received today. The officer also stated that they are changing some things with their communications, so that's why this e-mail was sent out, and that apparently, if you got this e-mail, the next step is deciding whether or not you receive an interview, not whether or not you'll be small pooled.

That's probably why the language is so similar between e-mails. After the primary screening, the only next step is interview or rejection. Therefore....if we have completed the primary screening....(insert deductions here). She said the small pool is no further ahead or any better than the one that was sent out today.

Cheers.

You are allowed to talk about whatever you like. I hope to provide some guidance with a bit of perspective since I went through this and have seen countless other students struggle with this particular communication and overreact, but I know that all I can do is suggest a course of action.

I know that many of us are grasping at straws here (myself included!), but it's really all we have. This whole process has a way of making otherwise sane, normal people incredibly neurotic. I try to resist it and stay level-headed, but it gets to me sometimes, especially when bad news piles up. I really do appreciate the information you provide, though.

Thank you and thank your cousin!

If this is true...then....WEEEEE!

Believe me, we know that feeling all too well. That's why we keep trying to encourage everyone to try and relax. As someone that went through it twice with one of those years full of rejections and wait lists, I can say that the following year when I was more relaxed and collected, I enjoyed my life a lot more and I feel that I handled interviews and communications with schools a lot better as a result.

Maybe it just takes a cycle full of rejections to gain some perspective on the process, I don't know. But the reason we are sounding so repetitive on here is because we've been there, and relaxing and trying your darnedest to put the application cycle out of your mind really is the best (and the only healthy) course of action at this point.

All you can do is get your application materials in, make sure there were no hiccups in its processing (maybe a phone call if you're that concerned), and then it is 100% completely out of your hands. Don't get me wrong, this forum can absolutely be very informative and helpful, but I know first hand that it can also toy with your insanity pretty easily. It's still very early in the cycle (IIs haven't even started going out yet), so right now just focus on being the best whatever it is that you're doing with your life right now. That way when you do start medical school, you'll have all the confidence and discipline that you'll need to succeed. Ok, I'm done playing dad now haha. Best of luck. As always, feel free to PM me with any questions you have.[/QUOTE]

Anyone complete around June 21 that didn't get small pool? Should I be worried?

+1... and is that not the point of these threads??? LOL

i don't think there is anyone that is complete on june 21st. AMCAS wasn't transmitted to schools before 6/27. If you mean 7/21, then i don't think you have anything to worry about since that's still relatively recent.

I'm sorry, yea I meant July haha.

Here I was all excited that Rosalind Franklin was ahead of the game with the early small-pool emails; this wait is killing me!

They said they will be adding more days later for January and beyond. There seems to be a morning and afternoon time for each day

II. OOS, was in the first small pool. I'm interviewing next Friday 9/5 and arriving at the airport 9/4 around 4 pm. PM me if you want to talk about sharing transportation to/from the airport.

Edit: I'm flying into O'Hare. I'm flying out really quick after the interview on Friday.

If anyone is flying into Midway for the 9/5 interview, I'd love to share transportation/hotel. Last minute tickets are so expensive already!
I'll be arriving in the evening on the 4th, and then flying out in the afternoon around the 6th.

Err...do you guys think it would look bad to choose a later interview date? I'm debating between 9/24 and 10/8. 🤔 It would save me a plane trip because i'll be in the area around that time.

Not at all! They will never even look at when you were offered vs when you scheduled. I'm doing that with a bunch of my interviews later in the month. They completely understand how expensive it is!

I get in around 12:30 pm on 9/4 at Midway. What time does your flight arrive?

Thank you for the reassurance. How are you planning to get from Midway to the school?

Crickets here as well. I really had high hopes to get a chance at Rosalind! :'( How much do you think it'll hurt me if I don't have a LOR from a physician? My letters were sent in a letter packet and my LOR from a physician was coming in separately. They said they only read the first 3 so I decided to complete my application before I had the doctor LOR on file.

I'm not 100% sure yet. I get in at 12:30 on 9/5, so if anyone wants to split a cab or shuttle service around 1 or 2 I'd love to split! I'm staying with a MS1 friend the night of 9/5, but I figure they're too busy to pick me up at the airport.

Sadly, I can't make 9/5 so I chose 9/24. But I'm having the hardest time trying to figure out how to get to the hotel.
Public transportation takes like 2.5 hours...
By any chance do you know what the environment is like over there? Like...is it dangerous to travel alone during the evening?
