2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I was unimpressed with Rosalind Franklin on my interview day. The President came across as disorganized and awkward. The students on the question panel were unenthusiastic and acted as if it was a chore to be there. The facilities were out dated in several parts of the tour. The MMI was poorly organized. Several of the interview rooms were located along a busy hallway and I found myself having to read these questions while people walked past me chatting. It became fairly obvious how the University came under probation.

All that said, I would be open to giving the University another chance on second look if I was accepted.

I am really sorry that was the impression you got. The MMI is still a work in progress (did you fill out the survey and tell them your thoughts? If not I can let them know). That is honestly not how life at the school really is

Hmm that's interesting. I interviewed the first day and everything ran smoothly. The MMI was perfect, the student panel were really enthusiastic. Zero complaints here.

I enjoyed the interview and tour but I was a little annoyed because the secretary was talking on the phone while I was trying to read for mmi.

Our president is one of the most dapper, relaxed men on earth. Maybe you were blinded by his aura of knowledge? The area outside the MMI rooms are only high-traffic for a few minutes every hour and the inside of the rooms are quiet even when there is conversation outside. That said, I'll toss a line to admissions suggesting they put up some notes recommending quiet nearby.

I see you've been accepted elsewhere (congrats!). What appeals does RFUMS have for you if it made this poor impression?

Don't judge a school by its interview. My interview day was upsetting but the school seemed very promising. I was trying to read a prompt and it was loud. I wouldn't mind if it was like that for everyone, it was just bad timing.

I had an absolutely fabulous interview date. I loved the faculty, the students, the campus, everything about it. I'd love to attend here. I was so upset thinking about what I'd have said differently for my MMI and I had a better MMI experience a different place, but I loved RFUMS.

Wow I had a a completely different experience, that sounds odd.

I hear that you're frustrated. Fit is a big deal with medical school interviews, and I have no intention of arguing with you about any of your opinions about our school. However, I am interested to hear how we can improve. What would have made your interview day better? More bubbly students (we have them!)? Different faculty? What specifically was outdated? What told you that our school should be on probation? Please tell us! We can't improve without your honest feedback!

I hope we hear back tomorrow!! Hoping for some love! Strong in-state ties even though I'm out of state!

Just so you know, our school is a private medical school, so state ties aren't a tremendous deal here! I still hope you get in, but I just want to make sure that everyone is aware that people from all regions may be accepted!

Tantacles,

So I know it's a long shot and that your aren't a part of the admissions office but is there any way you can find out when we're going to start hearing back?

I asked him this already, and he basically said he didn't know. My personal prediction is today at 4:30 pm. The reason is because last year the decisions were released at 4:30 on the last Tuesday of October. However, that was on the 29th of last year. This year, the 29th falls on a Wednesday. I know other schools, such as UIC, update the portal system on the same "day" each year (IE Thursday for example), and not according to the calendar date (like the 28th or 29th). So following that logic, today should be the day. If not today, then tomorrow 99% certanity. If neither of these days, then I feel bad for myself for even caring this much lol.

This is driving me crazy, I've been checking my email every minute on the minute. Then I get an email and my sympathetic response kicks in, all that NE/epi, only to see a stupid Netflix email...

Hi guys
I pretty much gave up waiting and plucked up the courage to call the admissions counselor lady (I think I met her during interview). She told me she can not give out the specific but decision should be out by next week. By the tone of her voice, I think next week will be more likely. I'm sorry. I know this wait is driving everyone crazy. But I also want to share what I know.

This actually really frustrates me, because this means decisions will be released in the 8th week, 2 weeks later than they told me originally.

/cry

I'll just go watch the walking dead or something to ease the pain.

I totally understand. Actually this week is the 8th week from my interview (September 5th). Next week will be the 9th week. I sincerely do hope we all hear something this week but part of me knows that it probably won't be 'till next week.

The Walking Dead sounds like a good idea for pain alleviation, except when zombies chase you around in your dreams. LOL. However, I still suggest it plus something even scarier, like the Conjuring, Paranormal activities, ....

You guys are seriously reading WAY too much into this. The emails will come whenever they come, and stressing this much is not going to make them come any faster. I get that the process is frustrating, I've been there too. But if you've already interviewed, just relax and try to enjoy your life while you still have one that doesn't completely revolve around studying.

I also interviewed on 9/5. I'd been hoping that getting my interview in the first day of interviews would mean I heard back earlier... I was so sure we would hear back today... I may hear back from my most recent interview (2weeks ago) before this one...

I'm not part of the admissions committee in the slightest and I don't have access to this information! My apologies. If the time frame frustrates you, I suggest you share that with the admissions office through their anonymous survey you received after the interview. I understand that it's frustrating that the e-mail they send out says 4-6 weeks and the process has taken more than six weeks, but unless you say something, there's no way they'll know what current applicants are actually thinking!

You get an email that says "The Office of Admissions and Recruitment will be in contact with you in the upcoming weeks regarding your reply" when you submit the declaration of intent form. I guess they will notify us for further instructions. Congratulations everyone!!!!!!

Congratulations, acceptees! I know that we likely won't see ALL of you in the fall, but I hope we at least see a good deal of you!

Again, if you have questions about the school, please feel free to contact me or one of the other students in the thread.
How do you pay the deposit? I can't find the link.

Accepted yesterday! Wahoo! Interviewed early Oct. LM: 66. 🙂 Congrats to everyone on your acceptances!

Hi, I'm not sure what year you are in, but what is the quality of the clinical rotations? Do you feel as if the physicians are decent teachers? Any other thoughts about them?

I think that there must be some sort of glitch going around for the acceptance deposits. They sent another email this morning, but it is the same link as before.
