Is there a train station or something near CMS that I can take to and from the downtown city area? Or anywhere into Forest Park?

Yes! You can take the Metra train (not the same train system as the L/subway in Chicago) from Ogilvie Station in downtown Chicago to the Lake Bluff train station. RFUMS sends a free shuttle to meet every incoming train in the morning and the same shuttle can take you back to the train in the afternoon. It costs something like $6 to ride from Chicago to Lake Bluff, and you can pay with cash or credit at the station or with cash on the train itself.

Perfect! Thanks so much. About how long is the ride?

Anyone staying at the holiday inn near rosalind and if so how are you getting there

Could anyone give me info on how long it would take to go from Center City Chicago to North Chicago if I were to leave early in the morning, ~6 oclock? Google says about 50 minutes but I am unsure of how bad the traffic in the area is at that time.

I stayed at a very decent hotel minutes away from Rosalind Franklin, and it was $30/night! I highly suggest staying close by and avoiding the stress of traffic/weather given the low cost of the surrounding accommodations. We had one person on my day come hours late b/c of unexpected weather and delays. Of course up to you, but I noticed that all the Chicago people opted out of the morning drive/train to just have peace of mind.

I am interviewing on March 6 and flying in from NY. I will definitely have to rent a car and hotel so I was wondering if any one else interviewing was looking to split any of those car or hotel.

Hey there!
I am also interviewing on March 6th and was looking into renting a car. Definitely interested in splitting the charge. When are you flying in? I will be flying in on March 5th.

Hi-

Can anyone please please tell me about living in the city during M1 and M2. I have heard many med students do that. I am considering it because I want to continue participating in clinical research (very important to me), and my BF and support system is in chicago. I am considering living in the city and commuting to class a few times a week. I've heard you can do most studying from home because the lectures are all recorded and that many students prefer to stay in the city. My main reason is that my support system is in the city & also I want to stay involved in clinical research/continue to gain clinical experience.

Can anyone comment on this who has gone through M1 or M2 living in the city? Any help would be majorly appreciated!!
I went to revisit day a few weekends again and tried to ask - but it was hard to get a detailed response from anyone with everything going on that day. The students just said, "Yes, a lot of people do it and prefer to live in the city all four years....". They did not have time to elaborate further because we were in meetings, tours, and such all day.

Thank you!

For people interviewing on 13th in the afternoon session we need to be at the school at 12pm or is that just the interview time? Because it gives from 12 to 430

Send over your email address in a PM and I'll be happy to direct you to someone who lived in the city during m1 and m2 years.

How stressful was the MMI for those who took it?

Hi everyone,

I just got an interview invite today! I'm scheduled for March 13 in the afternoon. Was wondering does anyone have any advice as to where to stay, should I rent a car or take a cab, also how will the weather be (I'm a Cali girl).

Thanks!

Congrats! Did you get a phone call II? or your email?
Also... in terms of weather.. it's chilly up here in Chicago..we still have some unmelted snow on the ground!

MMI is super chill. I was stressing a lot so if others are too, it's pretty stress free.

I got an email, which surprised me since its so late in the interview season.

Does rosalind franklin accept LOI/Update Intent post interview. Has anyone had success with this?

What are most people doing for housing? I for sure want a roommate/housemate to make rent less expensive but am unsure about living in campus apartments, other local apartments, or commuting from downtown.

On Jan. 30th, I e-mailed them about not having heard anything back for 30+(not a mistake) weeks... Today they responded saying I should hear something within a week or two.

That is crazy if you actually meant 30 weeks, but I assume you meant 3. Though I was just wondering if they would be receptive and do they read letters about current activities as well as why the school might be a practical place to do medicine, since the primary did not provide much information about individual people. I was wondering if anyone sent a letter of interest or intent and/or an update to be added to their file. Are they receptive to it?

I tried to send them stuff but as they state in their emails
"Please note, we cannot accept any additional information or materials unless it includes Institutional Action, Felony, Misdemeanor or Military Discharge explanations."
They seem to take that seriously and are not receptive to any kind of updates :/

+1
Sounds like rejection emails are coming out soon :/

30 weeks? That'd put you back to like June/July...

Considering giving up my interview slot.
Not having a hospital on campus and their probation status is throwing me off.

I wouldn't let the probation status be something to cause you any concern. They are very upfront about it during the interview. It seems like they have met with the LCME and everything is going just fine.

I can see why not having a hospital on campus can seem like an issue (http://forums.studentdoctor.net/thr...schools-without-hospital-affiliation.1119117/). However, there are still many opportunities for research and the rotations during third and fourth year are at well established and respected hospitals in Chicago.

Have you been accepted elsewhere?

I have three acceptances so far and a couple more interviews so I'm trying to decide if the trek to Chicago is worth it. I might go ahead and reserve a space for April in the hopes that I'll get a couple more Chicago invites and can knock them all out at the same time. How would you compare RFU to other Chicago medical schools (Rush and UIC)?

I just postponed my interview to march 30th (surprised they have a date that late) so Feb 25th is open if anyone wants to switch up

Hey, I though some people might find this interesting. The information might be a little old, but apparently around 450 of the 600 could possibly be accepted if this is correct. http://www.petersons.com/graduate-s...-the-chicago-medical-school-000_10027484.aspx

I don't have the MSAR or anything but I'd be willing to bet that they interviewed more than 600 applicants this year. On my day alone there were 20 in the morning and 20 in the afternoon. This is just my speculation though, can anyone confirm that they interview ~600?

MSAR says they interview around 632 last year to get their yield of 190

They only interview one day a week, so it wouldn't be unreasonable.

Ah, I see. You can never be sure how it changes from year to year, but if it is ~600 then that is a very good post-interview acceptance rate. Keeping my fingers crossed while I wait!

YUP! Good Luck! Also since they do not have any early assurance/guaranteed acceptance programs, those spots are wide open for all applicants
