2014-2015 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I felt like I blew 1 and bumbled through 1 and the rest went fabulous...and I got waitlisted! I had a lot of fun and loved the MMI format, so I think you never know!

Could any current students confirm when orientation will be? According to the website, the university as a whole has orientation in late May, but nothing was listed specifically for the medical school.

Hi, does anyone know when RFUMS is interviewing until? April?

Early August. You won't be participating in the earlier orientation at all.

Hey @tantacles would you mind telling me a rough range of what your utilities cost in your area?

All of these are totals, so split between all residents.

Cable: $50/m
Heat: Between $50-$100/month averaged
Electricity: $20-$40/month

Heat and cable are included if you live on campus, but see my explanation of apartment costs from before.

No info from RFUMS when attempted to ask.

I know they don't accept updates but I'm dying to know where I stand! >.< has anybody attempted to contact them via email or phone?

You are welcome to call them, but during interview day they were adamant about not sending updates and generally not asking where you stand. It will come soon enough and for them the season is far from over, so they might be bogged down with work. Is this pre or post interview

Thank you. Pre-II, unfortunately ._.

O lol, I was referencing post interview but the information works for both. They are usually not receptive but again no one is 100% sure that they won't just glance at it or pay it no mind.

don't know if I'll get reprimanded for posting this but I thought it would be worth a shot. I am applying the upcoming cycle with a 29 MCAT and 3.2 GPA. I understand that's far below average and the CMS website says
"In addition to a strong holistic profile, most successful applicants also have either a strong science GPA or MCAT score above 30"

Should I try applying here? What really interested me about this school was their community and global outreach that is shown on their website. For 3 years, I've been tutoring high school students that from low income families and have recently started volunteering at a free clinic in Mexico. I found these to be really enjoyable experiences and would love to continue doing these type of things as a medical student

Yes, apply (can't hurt except the application fee). I know a few people with 29 MCATs.

Is 3.2 your AMCAS GPA or the GPA your school provides you with? If it's the latter, your AMCAS GPA might be different, especially if you retook anything.

That aside, the worst that can happen if you apply is getting rejected. But if you never apply you won't have a chance at all.

lol I was thinking about just giving it a shot too. I'm saving up a good amount of money for my apps. Really grateful I don't have undergrad loans like a lot of my friends

Apply early and you'll have a chance, but to be completely honest, the combination of your MCAT and GPA don't suggest that you'll have a huge probability of success. If you plan to apply for the next cycle, I would suggest applying to both DO and MD schools, and if you can take another year off to work and try to slaughter the MCAT, that's what I would do. You're not in a great position.

Yeah I'm applying MD and DO. (maybe 30/70 split?) I 've been shadowing a DO recently and see the impact OMT has on patients and would like to pursue it as an option to narrow. There sure are a lot more MD schools than DO schools which is gonna take time. My main method is just to eliminate schools that have a strong IS bias lol

^-- i agree with this
unfortunately your MCAT is below average and your GPA is quite low to be competitive for MD schools. if you want better advice from adcom members on SDN, try making a thread on "what are my chances?"

I was complete the earliest you could be and just received an interview invite. I won't be attending but just wanted to post to give those still waiting some hope!

Any one know when we might expect to hear for 2/25 group? They said a couple of weeks but just wondering if it is two or three weeks. Thanks and good luck!

I just received an II. The only way I could see attending this school is if the financial aid package were generous. I can choose from dates through April. Does anyone know if they offer substantial or full scholarships?

I don't think so. From what I recall, a lack of additional financial resources for students was one of the biggest reasons the school got dinged by the LCME and lost it's accreditation. It could have changed though. I'd be interested in hearing different perspectives on this.

Thanks. How can I look this up? I want to decide ASAP so my spot can go to someone else if need be.

I meant placed on probation, not lost their accreditation. You can find it on the lcme website. It cites all the violations. Some are dumb. Others concerned me.
Oh I mean where can I look up scholarship funding. My apologies for the ambiguity of my question.

I just received an invitation to interview at CMS. I was already accepted at Loyola SSOM in November, and was absolutely in love with the school. In the 10 minute comparison I did between the schools it appears that Loyola is slightly cheaper, closer to downtown Chicago, and has higher overall statistics/better rankings. The facilities (photo comparisons) appear to be much newer and Loyola's rec center inside the medical school building wowed me, which really shouldn't be something I make my decision on but it was impressive.

I would like opinions on whether or not it worth is for me to interview at CMS? I am OOS and it is expensive for me to arrange to travel/stay there in order to interview when I would probably end up going to Loyola anyways. What do you think, what would you do if you were in my situation or accepted to both??

Want some cheese with the whine?

Got an II yesterday, withdrew because I'm too broke to fly anymore haha. Hope the interview spot goes out to someone who would love to attend 🙂

What time of the day do acceptance and hold/alternate list emails get sent?

Anybody during the interview ask approximately how many people are going to be interviewed this year? If not, can someone who will be interviewing ask?

I interviewed 2/13. Getting anxious to hear. I really liked CMS. Terrific culture and program.

II earlier this week but decided to withdraw. I hope they give it to someone else.
