2014-2015 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I have a few times since getting deferred in winter, moreso just to make sure they don't forget about me. If I lived in Boston, it would be more like this:

Lol ok thanks. I guess it won't hurt.

Sent mine in a while ago too and still haven't gotten anything... Were there any important details in the confirmation?

Nope. Just thanked me for my RSVP and said they are looking forward to a fun evening.

I almost did that to get an interview. I walk by their campus all the time because chinatown=awesome food.

So is the consensus on the deferred this that it is not moving this year? I wrote 2 interest/update letters back in Jan...is it even worth writing another one at this point?

Spoke with finaid last week and they said awards were going out in the mail for anyone who completed before the priority deadline. This was regardless of if you were given a decision or deferred.

Thank you. I had no idea offers were going out by mail. Now I can stop checking my email constantly.

Still no decision here so I withdrew! Going to end up in sunny LA most likely! Good luck to everyone!

Anyone have any idea if a Letter of Intent would be useful if currently "deferred"?

Couldn't hurt! But I'm under the impression they aren't going to re-eval deferrals until after the April 30th deadline.

Has anyone been rejected post-interview? Have all those who interviewed and not accepted just deferred?

Not to my knowledge. And it doesn't look like they've waitlisted anyone either.

Admissions keeps saying that deferred applicants will know by May 15th, but I thought there was an AAMC rule that all applicants have to be given a decision by April 30? Is that just confusion since they moved the date up this year?
I'm wondering the same thing... The AMCAS trafficking rules document didn't explicitly say anything about deferred/UC candidates (they only refer to people deferring entrance for a year, not people waiting for a deferred admissions decision). Does anyone have any input? (I know everything is all hearsay at this point haha)

Deferred basically means wait list. Basically everyone who is deferred gets put on the wait list on May 15th.
My bf applied to tufts 2 years in a row so that's how I know (last yr and the yr before that). I think in mid-late June they finally told him that he did not get off the deferred/wait list. This happened to him 2 yrs in a row. It was pretty painful. I don't understand why the do the deferred list...I think it is false hope.
I know getting in from being deferred is very very rare (sorry to be negative..haha). I've heard this from sooo many people. I do have one friend from undergrad who got in off of the deferred list - so there is hope....

(I am also deferred)

Does anyone know what is going on for Revisit Weekend on Friday? I got the email about Thursday night and something about Friday was mentioned in there but I did not receive any more info.

Man that's depressing... But I sid receive this in the email:

"Please do not be discouraged; it is not at all uncommon for our committee to place qualified applicants in the “deferred decision” category, and many applicants initially placed in this category will ultimately be admitted"

But if what you say is true, then it really is false hope 🙁

It is depressing and it is false hope. They deferred everyone who wasn't accepted. That means that there is only a very small chance of actually getting accepted right from the deferred status. All just a guess. It's really frustrating at this point that they haven't rejected and waitlisted people since they are done interviewing. I'd assume they know at least some who are rejected. I don't understand why people get strung along with this false hope.

Yeah I didn't want to be super negative -- but it is 150% false hope. I don't understand it either.... AMCAS really needs to have better regulations on this whole application system. It is pretty ridiculous, don't get me started haha

For awhile I was really negative, but I realized that doesn't help.
Looking at the last couple years, more than a few people withdrew from Tufts either for another school or their finaid wasn't enough. At this point, I'll just wait to see what happens. We have a week left 'til trafficking and movement should happen thereafter. It seems even last year some folks came off the post-deferral waitlist so I'll keep my modicum of hope alive.

I'm assuming if I have not received any letter regarding tuition aid by now (i submitted before priority deadline), I will not receive any?

I'm wondering the same. I think that their conduct has bordered on unprofessional. Deferred status and lack of updates aside, financial aid lost my information twice. I called them and calmly told them that I was concerned because my SSN is all over those forms. The individuals I spoke with could not have cared less. As an aside, I mailed my information in in late Feb or early March. They only cared to tell me it was missing just days before the deadline.

I've been holding an acceptance elsewhere in my back pocket for some time, and it's looking pretty good right now. Tufts was my top choice, but I'm less than impressed with them at the moment.

Sorry for the rant. I feel like I should have started this post with "Dear Diary."

I don't think it makes sense that all deferred applicants would receive financial aid information. That's just unnecessary work for admissions. I doubt any deferred applicants will get financial aid awards when they haven't been accepted.

I does make sense that financial aid puts deferred applicants on hold. My issue is primarily with the evident nonchalance with which they handled my information.

Has anyone received any financial aid offers?
No. But they claimed they didn't have some of the documents I sent them. Luckily, I decided to call last week. They told me this so I had them recheck my email and they found the documents. If you are accepted and haven't heard anything, I would call ASAP. Especially if financial aid could affect your decision.

Withdrawing my acceptance here today. Tufts is a lovely school; unfortunately, their financial "aid" package finalized my decision fairly quickly…

Good luck to those on the waitlist!

Anyone deferred spoken with admissions to see when we might get a decision?

Strap in, everyone. Tomorrow is Traffic Day.

Whatcha mean? We will hear from Tufts tomorrow if we are deferred?

brace yourself.......... all those "deferred" will be finally... wait listed. 😛 but i'll still keep my hopes up..

I will contact you as soon as the committee has reached a final decision on your application. A final decision will be reached at any time between now and the end of May. I regret that I cannot be more specific in terms of predicting when our committee will reach a decision on your application.

I am not sure that we will definitely hear tomorrow.
