2015-2016 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

finally rejection after waiting for 5-6 months... good luck to everyone who is still in the running.

Hmm reading that review process made me sad. My subcommittee must have quickly voted to reject me! Hah. However, fascinating insight.

Does anyone know what the shot is for someone with a good GPA (A- student), average MCAT, but great ECs/research/clinical work in another field? I know online it says median MCAT is 33...is being below that (30) a deal breaker? and if so what would people say a min MCAT for a school like this should be, 30??

Dartmouth interviews and accepts students with a variety of MCAT and GPA combos. Having a 30 MCAT, even though their median MCAT is a 33, certainly isn't a deal breaker (I have a friend with a 27 MCAT that was accepted). I think Dartmouth is one of the few schools that TRULY has a holistic review process, as they tend to be interested in non-traditional applicants with life experience.

Thank you that is reassuring! I know my stats are "average" compared to most people. I pull out at just about A-, first year of UG was awful but good trend up, did grad school, work in healthcare already and published research + other stuff like volutneering / exec clubs etc. I feel like I can't compete with some 4.0, 35+ MCATs at other schools but really hoping they look at me holistically and give me a chance!

Well I'm obviously on hold considering my application was complete in July and I'm still waiting. This is what you get when you're a non-trad, legacy with a ho-hum LizzyM....
I wouldn't give up hope yet. . I'm super non trad with terrible ugpa 2.95, 3.91 grad gpa and 31 mcat. II 2 weeks ago. .. feeling a little in over my head, tbh, though.

Hang in there.

I know how you feel. The first time I was rejected post interview (which was also my first interview ever), I felt really bad. I thought my interviewers must have hated me, especially since I got rejected so quickly, like I think a couple of weeks post interview. But I think realistically all interviewed applicants are so fabulous that it's hard for them to choose, even though it seems it was quite easy for them to single us out for rejection.

Does anyone know how many students apply to Dartmouth each year?

The impression I got was they finish when they review all files.

Oh wow great stats! so likely there's no chance for me this late in the game haha

Does anyone know how many acceptances have been given out? Like is interviewing this late essentially just interviewing for the waitlist or no?
there's only 52 members in the Facebook group and some of those are current students. I don't think it's an interview for the waitlist.

Rejected this morning, not too surprised and just glad to hear some news! Submitted early August

im surprised dartmouth admissions office works on holidays.

Rejected today complete in August, wouldn't have been able to interview anyway so doesn't really feel like a loss at this point! Oh well.

Soooo what's the latest we could hear back by post interview? Only have $ for 2 second looks, and already have two acceptances - but Dartmouth is my #1.

Any advice? Should I go ahead and book the trips for the other two schools and just take the $ loss if it's good news from Dartmouth?

I would say maybe go ahead and go to the other two second looks, since you already seem to know that Dartmouth is your #1. I mean, if you get in at Dartmouth, would you still seriously consider the other two schools?

Good point. The only case in which I would consider the other schools if they gave me an insane financial aid offer, and even then I would strongly prefer Dartmouth.....

Thank you for the advice!
