2015-2016 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thanks -- what's the cost of the polls usually? do i need like a bunch ? LOL

also - i'm debating flying into boston and driving vs flying directly to lebanon.. i'm kinda wondering if with the cost of a rental (would prefer rental over bus if I was doing this), it may all just be a wash.. thoughts ?
The ticket from piston to Lebanon was beyond insanely expensive when I interviewed. I definitely saved a few hundred bucks by renting a car.

The tolls aren't much, a few dollars, and if you bring quarters you do t have to pay the rental car company for using the EZPass

I'd definitely go with the Dartmouth coach from logan. super affordable and drops you off right in front of the campus. almost everyone in our interview group used it

I totally agree. Great experience.

Just got an II here! Will likely be turning it down, as I hold acceptances at schools I'd likely attend over Geisel.

Edit: have a few Geisel alum friends and have visited the campus several times (and am quite familiar with the school). It's an excellent institution, but I am having a hard enough time choosing between the acceptances I hold. So grateful for this application cycle!

You can also fly into Manchester or Burlington. I flew to Manchester and rented a car there for $40/day. The drive was just about an hour.

does anyone know when we would find out some financial aid info?
Try to get everything in as early as possible. I think I had mine in by end of this month, but did not hear back until April. Don't be afraid to call to inquire about what's going on as it gets close to the date that you can only hold one acceptance.

Just rejected. I guess I have terrible luck on the east coast. Good luck to everyone still interviewing!

Hi all, Do any of you know if they are still inviting people for interviews?

They are. I just received one a few days ago (sadly, I had to decline). Good luck!

A little late but accepted out of state. I really liked the school and the opportunities but am a little worried about the location. It is the highest ranked school I have been accepted at and felt truly humbled at the interview. I think I had to explain where my Undergrad School was located at least 15 times to people who had dropped the Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc. I would love to attend if given the financial means though. Did anyone have an interesting interview? My first interviewer there seemed to take dramatic pauses at times and we just smiled and looked at each other for some 10 seconds at a time. I consider myself easy to talk to but this interviewer seemed okay with saying the minimum and starting about 10 minutes late. I did get to play with the dog outside of her office though. That was fun!

Congrats! I think we had the same faculty interviewer. She was nice but wasn't a big talker. And the dog was very very cute!

So this week counts as a march week, right? So we should be hearing weekly now?

Just got a II complete 09/08

Dates available March 15 and March 17 - don't know if I'll be accepting this....

PSA: last interview date is March 17th

If so, given that the IIs still seem to be coming in, will all the post-II acceptance/reject/wait-list emails also be sent out in March? Or, is there a last date by when the notifications will be sent? Would you (or anyone else) know or comment on this?

There seem to be 6 interview days in March, which means that at 15 students per day it is a minimum of 90 students getting interviewed at this late date. Wonder what percentage of interviewed students actually get it. I know many of this has been discussed in the past. But when you are into your 2nd dry cycle, any consolatory reassurance is welcome 🙁

I don't know, sorry. I asked which available interview dates they had in March and was told that March 17th was the last one.

If I finish interviewing by 2:30pm, is it possible that I make it to the Dartmouth coach stop by 3pm? Is it in walking distance or no?

It's walking distance - the coach stop is in front of the Hanover Inn which is just a couple of blocks.

this is unnecessary stress..make sure to let them know that your bus leaves at 3

Can you not take the 5pm coach? Missing the tour would be a bummer.

They've accommodated my request to leave by 2:30pm.

I would miss my flight if I took the 5pm coach. I have to work the next day so I can't take another flight.

You'll definitely be fine. I believe it's just a 10min walk (check google maps regarding this). They're also pretty strict on keeping interviews only 30 min. so you should be able to leave by 230 on the dot. The coach is very punctual so just make sure you don't get distracted on the way over

Anyone have an idea when the bulk of decisions will come out? Oct interviewee waiting still. Wondering if I'm going to have to wait until late March/April to hear back
In the same boat, October interview, such a long wait. In last year's thread decisions started going out in early March. Looks like 1st post-interview rejections and waitlisting occured on 3/7, then more and more decisions as the month progressed.
