2015-2016 Dartmouth College (Geisel) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I'm pretty sure I'm matriculating but I'm not going to second look even though it would make the decision easier. I don't know why you'd pay for a flight if you're not accepted yet. try to see if you can make a decision without having to visit again.

I'm not holding my breath for dartmouth, even though it was a wonderful experience. The new MSAR says only 10-30 applicants are waitlisted and they interview >800. The chances are pretty slim at this point!

i like your pessimism!

It doesn't give a specific number?

I thought that they waitlist everybody they don't accept.

Update...today I dropped by the school offices since I live in the area and had to drop off my financial aid paperwork. While chatting with the admissions lady, she said that the committee would be meeting tonight to discuss ~60 kids and that they would also be meeting next week to discuss ~60 as well. She seemed hopeful that would wrap up the remainder of the candidates left, so hopefully you guys will be receiving answers soon! Best of luck :claps:

Oh! I guess that means they didn't end up canceling March 31st !

I think especially in Dartmouth's case, with such a small class number, it would be an absolute waste of everyone's time to have a huge waitlist that contains all interviewed candidates.

probably the monday/tuesday after each meeting.

edit: last year there was a (last?) meeting april9, and first acceptance after on apr10; and several waitlists 4/15.

I'd expect emails to go out tomorrow morning. Sit tight and good luck all!

This is probably based on last year's thread. Also - re: wait list numbers. They ACCEPT 10-30 from the wait list each year, but there are many more than this on the list itself. I know because a friend of mine was wait listed last year, and I saw the letter that explained as much.

Yeah but I dunno where we got decisions tomorrow from. Last year's thread got decisions second week of April... Obviously I'd love to be wrong and wake up to a nice acceptance email, I'm just not holding my breath.

On another note, how does a committee get through 60 applicants in one sitting? They can't discuss every single one of them.

They must come into the committee meetings already with an idea of a decision from whatever review occurs before interviews. My guess is that they would have the likely no's and likely yes's, vote on those in-bulk (to some degree) and then discuss further those that are contentious. Who knows, but even only speaking for 5 minutes about each candidate would take 5 hours, and I don't think that committee members have 5 hours to spare for these meetings.

Yeah I agree, it seems like a lot of kids, and she even said herself that it was a ton compared to their normal meetings...lol I'm guessing they're definitely behind their planned schedule and trying to catch up?

Yeah that's what I'm saying what if your interviewer just hated you and was all, "we don't even need to vote on this person", or something. Or they just decide they're all full before getting to you and don't even consider you...

Also, why interview a likely no? Seems like a colossal waste of everyone's time

Are any one of you generous souls willing to give the admissions office a call to see when they will release acceptances? I'm sure I can speak on behalf of a lot of us that we would be extremely grateful 😀

I tried to. Asked whether a certain date (which I interviewed on) in March had been discussed yesterday and whether they knew when the next decisions were going out. Answer to (1) was that it doesn't work necessarily by date, and (2) she didnt know when the next decisions were going out.
Oh well.

no surprise. their scoring system is designed so that the interview date does not matter. it all depends on your overall score. im just crossing my fingers and praying that mine is good enough for acceptance.

there are a few sdners who got accepted here and elsewhere very early. i assume that they're the "all stars" and will choose other schools over dartmouth.

who knows!!:bang::shrug:😕

After a long wait post interview, just rejected. 🙂

Not surprised, since I basically told them I wasn't sure how I would like living in the middle of nowhere with a small class. Good luck to those still waiting to hear back!

Just got the rejection email, kinda a bummer as Dartmouth was my top choice, but oh well, at least I have somewhere else to go

Hope this is joke, Diabolical. That sucks if it isn't!!!

Are these the first post interview rejections we've seen??

No, just the first we've heard of anything in awhile

Been keeping up with this thread all year and am fairly confident these are the 1st post-interview rejections. Sorry for those of you that ultimately got rejected. I'm sure there will be more of us joining you soon...

Yes back on topic. @whitelotus23700 mehc012 is right. They've interviewed and rejected people who were complete both before and after you. Dartmouth seems to be quick about letting you know when they've made a decision on you. It seems since the first round of acceptances they've sent out rejections/ii's once a week. Assuming they are being kind hearted, it seems (i hope) they'll only sent II's this week.

Now the anticipation is really getting to me! Anybody know when classes/orientation starts? Definitely wish Dartmouth decided earlier since some schools start in early July and now is the time to find housing for that time period.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves 😛. I'm just trying to stay alive!

I looked up last year's academic calendar and Aug 10 was the start of orientation

True, but they do accept people even after orientation has started. I believe their cutoff is the first or even second day of classes.

Haha it's real though. They said that last year, someone was accepted off the waitlist 2 days before class started. This system is so crazy in general (at any school) -- makes planning life extremely difficult.
