Back when I interviewed, they said the committee meets every week for decisions. However, the majority of decisions go out in spring

Right. You're put on a list post-interview and your rank will increase/decrease depending on the quality of the other applicants compared to you. They will pull from the top of the list and move their way down as the cycle continues. You could hear anywhere from now until April, I guess. So you know, welcome to purgatory.
 
We meet every 2 weeks, so each acceptance wave is about that long apart. However, when you hear back depends largely on when you are reviewed (which depends on how long it takes for both your interviewers to write you up). For instance, we reviewed someone a week ago who I interviewed in October. By then, I could hardly remember who they were... 🙁

Oh dang, that's not entirely encouraging...
 
But it's the anomaly, thankfully

However, from what I know, if you're waitlisted you may not hear back quickly. As they pull people off the waitlist as the season goes, so you may received an acceptance a few weeks later! The one thing I do like about the system here is you are never interviewing for a waitlist spot. We admit people up until the very last meeting in April!

Do you have insight on the pre-interview decision process? I've been hanging around since July and countless people before and after my complete date have received both interviews and rejections. Do folks get re-reviewed throughout the cycle? It seems that unlike others schools, a tacit response is not necessarily bad, but it's hard to expect anything but a negative outcome after waiting so long.
 
I think I answered this a while ago in this thread, but they don't go in order of completion date. Screeners are each assigned a section (not sure by what order) in the beginning of the year and some people review much faster than others. If your first reviewer isn't sure, it can go to a secondary or tertiary screener before you hear back so that could take a while longer.

There is also the rule that the person who screens you cannot interview you too, for bias sake. So to sum it up, it can be pretty random on the applicant's end unfortunately.

A few people have asked about the timeline of my application - I was completed in August, did no not hear about until mid-December and interviewed in February and accepted in March.

First of all, @snarkie thank you so much for posting this info. As you know, this process is not the most transparent thing in the world so it is nice to get some clarity for those of us still waiting to hear back. I had a couple quick questions based on this post:

1) If you sent an update letter in say, October, do you think that would have been read by now?

2) Do you know of any timeframe when reviewers just run out of time on applicants? (You said that they could have multiple screenings and I am assuming that this takes up ~weeks of time. So I guess i am just wondering if it is possible for an application to get silently neglected?)

For the update letter, it really depends on if your app was reviewed by the first screener. If yes, then probably! If no, then they will see if when they get to your file.

Multiple screening usually doesn't take months, the 2nd/3rd reviewers are (from what I've seen) people are usually one of 5-6 people and they are all pretty quick I think. As for the silently neglect part, I don't think so but I will ask the admission folks about this tomorrow and get back to you.
 
They must, because I was complete 7/29 and never heard anything else.
 
Can anyone suggest where to stay when interviewing ?

Check the host portal for availability.

My interview day was done by 4 (pretty sure it was like 3:30), but there is an optional extra student led tour that you can stay extra for.

How many interviews do they they give out per year to OOS? My MSAR just expired.

looks like 5,212 verified app --> 643 interviews --> 77 matriculated (only OOS) IS is 73 apps to 17 interviews to 4 matriculations

So assuming 2 acceptances per matriculant, less than 25% are accepted?!! Pretty rough odds.
 
According to USNWR 36% of interviewed applicants get accepted. A third of whom matriculate.
 
They accepted around 36% of their interviewees last year, but I am sure that it changes every year.
 
Regarding pre-II update letters: Do we simply email the admissions committee?
 
Just to put my data point on this thread: rejected MD/PhD before the holidays, reverted to MD-only after prompt from admissions asking me to confirm my continued interest in Geisel.

Still waiting, but I don't think I'll be hearing from them for a while, if at all. Even then, fingers crossed.

How were you notified? I applied to their MD/PhD in August and still haven't heard.
