If you haven't received an OOC email up until this point I'd make an effort to call. I interviewed on 3/23 but hadn't heard a thing for several weeks despite attempted calls (during calling hours) and multiple emails. Finally, last Thursday I called pretty much every number listed in that packet given to us during interview day. It wasn't during allowed calling hours but I kind of just thought, "What is there to lose at this point?" Someone picked up and passed the phone to Ms. Walk. Apparently they'd set my application aside because I'd already gotten an acceptance* elsewhere--which suggests that they might be prioritizing students who have yet to be accepted anywhere. I was then told my application would be included in the Tuesday (5/24) committee meeting if I was still interested in Howard. I said yes because out of all of my interviews this cycle, Howard was my favorite (all of the students and professors I met were really great, and I especially liked the other applicants who were interviewing that day with me--everyone was just mad cool). After a couple of days thinking about everything (their currently "full" class, logistics of possibly moving to DC with less than a month to plan, estimated financial aid, etc.) I finally decided Monday night, before the committee met, to withdraw my application from consideration.
*An aside: When I was told my application hadn't been reviewed because I'd gotten an acceptance elsewhere I paused. I literally made this face:
Because I was told on interview day that students who interviewed on 3/23 would hear back (via an OOC email) by the 3rd week of April. My acceptance (the first and only one I received) didn't come until 3-4 weeks after the 3rd week of April. It's probably the type A, over-analytical mind that we pre-med students tend to have, but something about that tidbit of info just seemed strange to me, even if I factor in the fact that they were behind on reviewing applicants. Especially since other applicants who'd interviewed the same day I did had been getting news. Also, I found it strange that the admissions admins kind of just assumed I preferred the other school to Howard.
TL;DR: If you interviewed in March and haven't heard anything yet, call them! Try every number in that info packet you got on interview day, multiple times. And maybe even try calling outside of call hours. Good luck to everyone still waiting to hear back! I'm rooting for you, and I hope my spot in the Tuesday committee review went to one of y'all! Hopefully good news is on the way.
