2015-2016 Northwestern University (Feinberg) Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The sample size is small, but I've only detected September + January-Feb interviewers who were deferred and then acceptanced on this thread. I'm praying there's another batch coming out today lol
...Same here...haha

Hi guys so I was thinking of booking my flights for Second Look (itinerary is flexible, thank you southwest). I was thinking of flying in Wednesday evening and leaving Saturday afternoon. What do you guys think? should I change the timings for something else? Thanks!

Have they sent any rejections lately to deferred applicants or am I just waiting til march to get rejected?
If last year's thread is indicative of anything then there will be waitlist spots sent out next week. It didn't seem like anyone who was deferred post interview got rejected until late March.

If you can afford the time I would recommend staying through the weekend, the days of second look are fairly busy and having Sunday to see some parts of the city/look at places to live was really nice for me last year!

There isn't a lot of information available yet for second look. What exactly were you kept busy with? Also where did you stay at that time (as in accommodation for the nights)? Thanks!

If i remember correctly it was a two day affair: The first day starts at ~5pm and they have a reception for all the students, most people go out for dinner and drinks after than, then the M1's took us out to a bar to check out the nightlife. The second day there was breakfast, informational session on several different topics; Financial aid, research, curriculum, ect. A mock "TBL" case, and some other options for tours and workshops.

I stayed with a student host (who was awesome) and was willing to host me for a few extra days even though they had a renal exam the following Monday!

Also since I suck at throwing things away, here is the 2015 second look agenda, some things will change I am sure.

Does Feinberg offer everyone to stay with student hosts?

Does Feinberg offer everyone to stay with student hosts?
If I remember correctly, yes. Though it is contingent upon students actually volunteering to host, and since second look "looks" like it will fall near a test...

Edit: I lied test is march 25th, all this math in pulm module is throwing me off

Accepted! Interviewed 2 weeks ago. LizzyM 78. Can't believe it... I'm so honored to be a part of such an amazing place.

ACCEPTED!!!! Can't hardly believe it after only interviewing on Feb 3rd.

For those accepted, do we have to accept the offer on the portal and by mailing in the form? Or is the portal sufficient?

We interviewed on the same day! Such a quick turnaround.

Same here! 🙂

I think that I may be the only one who interviewed on Feb 3rd and didn't get accepted 😛

Has anyone sent in their financial aid application materials? Did you receive any type of confirmation that they received it?

Just curious about the daily schedule for students? When do classes start/go to?

There will be class 8-12 most days. We generally get 1.5-2.5 afternoons free each week. There are a lot of small groups like ethics and PBL that meet in the afternoons. If you want anything more specific or a copy of one of our schedules, let me know!

Is anyone not submitting the Need Access Application? I'll need to take out loans for med school, but I doubt I would qualify for need-based aid...unsure if I should just apply anyway.

Could we see a copy of your schedule, please?

There are only negative outcomes if you don't submit it. Unless the fee for the NA is an issue for your financial situation.

I almost didn't submit for my undergrad and am so glad I did--paid for half of my ride.

Here's a copy of our schedule for Pulmonology. To follow 1 student's schedule, pick one of the 4 colleges (Marks, Corcoran, You, Hoffman) and follow the schedule downwards. Everything with an asterisk is mandatory. Let me know if there are any specific questions!

Thank you so much for posting this!!

Just curious about the daily schedule for students? When do classes start/go to?

To comment on the schedule: my usual daily schedule that I've settled into looks a little different than you'd assume looking at the actual posted schedule/is actually so much better than I expected it would be. That grid schedule grid always freaked me out a bit.

In case anyone's interested in day to day life (for me at least):
Aside from Monday (and occasionally Tuesday) when morning class is mandatory, I get up when I wake up/generally set back up alarm for like 10/10:30. I make myself some coffee and half-heartedly look over lectures at home until like 11:30. I then either meet up with people who actually went to class for lunch or make myself something at home. I generally try to make it over to campus by about 12:00 regardless of if we have class or not and stay there through whatever is mandatory plus about two hours of really drilling down into material. I usually get home around 6, go to the gym, make some dinner, work on memorization stuff for about an hour, and generally call it for the night around 8.

Monday and Tuesday are my power days because once I get to campus at 8/9 or whenever the mandatory lecture is, I stay there and do work in whatever breaks we have through 5 or 6. I do about the same on Friday, except I try to wrap up around 4 or 5. I always have grand plans for productivity on Saturday, but it's actually pretty rare that I get much of anything done. Sunday I usually go through the non-science stuff from the week before and catch up a bit on lecture if I've fallen too far behind.

Obviously I put more time in around test weeks, but I just wanted to post some reassurance that if, like me, you are worried about having to give up the days of sleeping till noon and watching way too much Netflix, do not fear. The schedule looks worse than it is and if you actually study when you set time aside to study (I may or may not have to hide my phone from myself), you'll end up with free time M1 year. It's stressful at times, but it really is doable - even for someone who managed to get 4 day weekends for their last year and a half of undergrad.

Waitlisted this morning, withdrawing because of a UChicago offer. Best of luck to everyone!

Time to work on a tactful and subtle, yet refined, TAKE ME PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF CHRIST email.

Smeriously...the e-mail seemed very pro-communication with the office.

Wait listed as well. How many people do they take off the wait list?

In last year's thread a decent number of those who were wait-listed got accepted. I didn't bother to count but there were more than a few. Obviously this number may change year to year and the bulk of the movement will occur after April 30 (yay! more waiting) but it certainly could be worse.

The email I just received said alternate list, this is the same thing as waitlist, correct?

Time to do something amazing and update worthy...

joined the waitlist crew this mornnnn

Also received waitlist this morning. Will be declining spot due to other acceptances.

Anyone receive merit to notifications yet? I was told they started going out this week
