2015-2016 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

This is a good resource.

First Year - basic sciences + normal physiology. We start off with Biochemistry + Cell Molecular Bio and transition into Organ systems. All classes will be covering the same organ system at any given time. For example, Cardio in physio will be done at the same time as Anatomy and Histology. The one exception is Embryology (taken in the first term as well).

Second Year - pathology. We start off with basics of Immunology and Pharm in the beginning of the year as well. Afterwards, its split into Organ systems again. Pathology in the Heart, Pharm/Drugs that affect the Heart, etc. Everything done first year is pretty much revisited second year in some way.

ECR is taken both years. Its our how to be a doctor class where you learn the physical exam. There is a lot more clinical stuff built into second year (preceptorships and other things) where you can get more practice.

Can any current students (or anyone who knows) tell me how strict they are on the Biochemistry Lab requirement? I already graduated, took biochem without lab. They say they accept "one term of research lab" in place of it, and I did do research for a year, but not for credit on my transcript... Any input would be nice.

Completed today. Hope to get some love from the family alma matter

Is anyone familiar with the format of interviews for schools who do MMI's? I just got my confirmation email for my interview here and I noticed that the itinerary is only for the MMI portion. Does that mean that we do not get to see the school or talk with students/faculty at all? It seems strange to me that they would put us through this stressful testing and then not give us the chance to determine if it was even worth it.

An interview day consists of:
1. the actual MMI Interview
2. Student Guided Tour
3. Student Panel + short Info Session (Financial Aid + School Facts)
4. Optional Faculty/Student Meet + Greet at the end (with Lunch or Snacks in the afternoon)

All this happens either in the morning or in the afternoon, depending on which session you choose.

The itinerary I received definitely shows a tour of campus and a time to speak with students and faculty. Are you sure you got an itinerary or did you just get a confirmation for your interview? They send the itinerary 2 weeks before your confirmed date of interview.

The MMI is actually supposed to be less stressful than traditional so go in confident!

So two questions.

The folks that have been rejected (sorry 🙁(( ) do you mind sharing when you were complete?
Also, they send out rejections via email correct?

I just havent heard back good or bad and have beeen complete for quit some time now.

Okay thanks guys! I thought I got an itinerary because it did mention some of the same things you listed, just not the tour. It probably was just a confirmation email then. I'm about 3 weeks out now so I'll look for that other email.

That's what I've been hearing from everyone. I've been basing my impression of the MMI off of my experience taking CASPer, which was painfully stressful. Hopefully it's not as bad as that.

CASPer wasn't bad at all, just glitchy!

I thought CASPer was almost fun except for the glitches. Definitely not challenging
I agree! But it was also exhausting. I can only imagine how beat I am going to feel after a whole day of being "on"

It's an online ethics and personality test that a few schools required this year. It has had huge problems on multiple test dates.
Thanks! Rosalind Franklin requires it? I received an II like two weeks ago but haven't heard anything about it. Am I missing something? lol

No! Rosalind Franklin doesn't not require that from my knowledge!

Oh, whew! Haha I only skimmed this thread so I thought I forgot to do something for this school! Western Michigan requires an ethics-type quiz so I thought it might something similar!

No, you don't need it! It was only needed for a few schools, and Rosalind Franklin was not one of them. I think it only came up in this thread because people are comparing CASPer questions to MMI questions.

Thanks, @nwts! Good grief, this application process is making me lose my ****.
You're welcome! I can totally sympathize. I feel like my mind is going in a zillion directions right now with trying to check portals, coordinate things, and live my daily life. Best of luck in your applications, though! I'm sure you'll do awesome in all those interviews you have!

Thank you! I'm an underdog for sure, so I'm definitely feeling incredibly grateful and a bit overwhelmed! I'm wishing you the best of luck this cycle!

Thank you! Here's hoping we both receive good news in October!

I submitted on July 30, still no complete email. Would you guys recommend calling/emailing them? All of my letters have been in since early July and I paid on July 30th as well

hey you should try email them. It's hard to get them on the phone when I tried.

I submitted and paid two weeks ago and all of the letters have been in since July. What I've been getting from this thread is that it takes a while for the school to send completion emails out, so how long do you guys think I should wait before getting in touch with them?

They say it takes 4-6 weeks to get a complete email when they emailed me.

Submitted supplemental on 08/06 (all complete) and just received the complete email on 08/28

Got my II today!! 🙂 Rosalind Franklin wasn't a top choice when first selecting schools for the primary app, but after delving into the program and learning about their interprofessional curriculum when filling out the secondary, this school is easily in my top 5 now.

My reply to this is a bit late! While the school has plenty of positive elements, I wouldn't say the interprofessional curriculum is anything to write home about. In terms of interprofessional curriculum courses, here's what I remember off the top of my head.

HMTD: Pass/fail course with health professionals from every single school at RFUMS. I (and most others) would say this course had limited value due to the high reliance on watching videos and little chance to learn more about medicine. Excellent way to meet a limited group of people from different schools.

Anatomy: Taken with podiatry students, but we all see the same curriculum (no customization) and you only end up working with 2 podiatry students on your team.

Pathology: Taken alongside path assist and podiatry students; no interaction with them as they are not required to come to group elements of the course.

ECR: Taken with podiatry students. Same curriculum and not at all customized based on your field.

So essentially, the only interprofessional course that actually has interprofessional interaction is HMTD.

There are plenty of great reasons to go to Rosalind Franklin, and interprofessionalism is certainly a great buzzword to use in your interviews if it comes up, but I wouldn't base your decision to attend on the fact that the school has an "interprofessional curriculum."

Thank for posting this. Seems like the interprofessional curriculum isn't stressed as much as I thought it would be. What would be your top 2-3 things about RFUMS? Seems like there are lots of clerkship opportunities during 3rd and 4th year.
