2015-2016 Stony Brook University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete 7/22 and still nothing. That 2 month rule is definitely not 100%. I'm 3.5 months in.
Does yours say that your application is currently being reviewed? Mine changed to that on Wednesday. Complete 8/24. IS

Yours changed from what to what?

Also complete in July and haven't heard anything

Nope, just says "Application Complete, an email dated 7/22 was sent to you." It's been that way since then.

+1.

Perhaps we go from "Complete" -> "Being reviewed" -> ???. It boggles me (the mind?) that schools cannot outline their procedure (what each status means, etc). It seems relatively simple and would decrease applicant anxiety (to a degree...).

Mine says "Your application is under consideration" and has said that as long as I can remember. Anyone have a different status?

its better than being rejected D:

That's it. That's what mine currently says , consideration ( couldn't remember the exact wording). It did not say that Monday though, it changed on Wednesday.

So strange, mine has said "complete and under consideration" since July, the wording never changed

Whoops, I just must've never noticed the change from whatever was before. Thanks!

I am at over 3 months, hoping to hear soon

Because they need some people to interview in the spring 🙂. Can't be all of us, but I'm optimistic a lot of that are not rejected yet will get IIs

have they rejected any IS people so far? It seems the few that went out were OOS

They have. A kid I know got rejected last week and he is IS and went to stony for undergrad
Well that's good news for us IS'ers still on the hook, I guess? Come on Stony Brook! Looks like 3 months since submission is more accurate for news? Hopefully sometime in the next three weeks I guess...

IS here so I guess its good news..do you happen to know if they rejected any IS who were complete in Sept?

Could anyone talk more about any community outreach programs the med students can get involved in? 🙂
We have a student run clinic called SBHOME where you can volunteer on the weekends. Several projects that current students are working on are charity runs for cancer, middle school/high school health awareness, etc. These are just some of many opportunities. PM Me if you want to know more specifics.

Being complete in july and not having heard back, I've got a bad feeling about fate here

They've rejected people with higher and lower LizzyMs than me (near positive -- well GWU and Brown did) so I'm considering us still in the game. I was complete later, but... Maybe it'll be a holiday present?

Anyone know if they are actually sticking to this 4-6 week timeline for post interview accept/waitlist/reject? Tomorrow is 6 weeks for me... For those who interviewed in late sept, have you all heard yet? It seems that no one has been waitlisted or rejected post interview

I think it's 6-8 weeks? I'm on my 4th week of waiting currently so I'm thinking I need to wait a bit more (interviewed in October), but I have seen some people post on here that they heard within a month.

Please those who have had the interview, what is the exact address of the admissions office. I'm so confused, I've checked Google and read the interview invite email many times today and I still can't figure out where exactly the admissions office is. Please this is urgent. My interview is tomorrow so I can't call the school.

I stayed with a student host so I didn't really worry about this, but according to their website (http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/directions) it's:

101 Nicolls Road
Stony Brook, NY 11794

Best of luck tomorrow!

That's the address I googled and it gave me somewhere far from stony brook

Just look for SBU hospital. You need to go through the hospital to get to the medical school. They're essentially synonymous/intermixed.

The hospital is on the edges of SB border.. sb, port Jeff, Miller place, mount Sinai and Rocky point are all very close/blurred to one another

Alright I think I've found it. Thanks! I'll try to allow like 3 hours for travel incase I get lost.

Could any MS1's/MS2's chime in on how the new LEARN curriculum is treating them and overall thoughts on experience at Stony. It was very helpful to hear opinions about the first year of the curriculum but would be even greater to hear how MS1s currently feel about year 2 of the curriculum and if the edges have been smoothed out now.

Would love to get more opinions too from any current students if PM is better

Congrats to my fellow accepted students! 🙂
