2015-2016 Stony Brook University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To those who have interviewed:

What time did you start? I live out on the South shore, just east of JFK essentially, and am carless when home. I was planning on taking the LIRR out but am afraid of a 730AM start.

They send you an e-mail a week in advance what time you should come in. It varies within the interview group, I was told to come in at 10:45am, some people were told to come in earlier and some later.

Thanks!
Do you think it would be unwise to email Ms. Acevado and ask for a start time after 10AM? Earliest train into SB is 9.38AM, I believe.

I told them that I needed to leave early, and they gave me really early interviews. I think I finished at 2 or 3pm?

Thanks!

Just ask. There were a few who had a start time at 11am in my interview group.

II this morning! So unexpected, but I'm so grateful. I have family in the area that I would love to be closer to, so I've had my fingers crossed for a NY interview this whole cycle, and Stony Brook was one of the schools I'm most interested in!

OOS, nontrad, LizzyM ~70, complete 7/27

Have they given out any waitlists or rejections post interview yet?

Rejected today pre interview. Good luck to you guys still in the race

Same. Thought I might have been the first in the cycle.😳 Onward & congrats to prior acceptances and to the rest - hope you get in and rescind your apps to the other schools on my list 😉:angelic:

Sorry about the rejection. When were you guys complete?
Worried mine might be coming soon.

Interviewed 10/16 and didn't hear anything today. Is that an obvious bad sign? Or is it possible my interviewers didn't come to the meeting? Not sure how this works

Were rejected people OOS? My secondary essay wasn't good, haha, but I was complete 7/10-7/13 and not rejected

Lol dude that's crazy speculation. Nothing is linear

to those accepted, did your portals change? Seems like they've accepted only a few so far compared to earlier years threads

Yes. It says this:

my friend was rejected yesterday and he is IS and was complete on 7/14. so they have rejected IS people as well as OOSers
I'm IS, was complete later in july and have not heard anything yet

Out of curiosity, how are people choosing between the SUNY med schools?

Does Stony Brook do silent holds? I've been complete since 7/8 and haven't heard a single thing, not even a rejection, and I'm coming up on the 4-month mark :I

Question: are acceptances not linear? I interviewed 10/6 and haven't heard anything... Has anyone gotten rejected and or waitlisted post interview? If they are already sending out acceptances, whats the big hold up for me? I'M DYING OVER HERE

I don't think they're linear: I interviewed on 10/16 and got the acceptance on 10/30...which blew me away since I thought they said it was supposed to take 6-8 weeks

According to the admissions website (http://medicine.stonybrookmedicine.edu/admissions_SOM#correspondence), Ms. Grace Agnetti "is the principal source of advising for those applicants who were unsuccessful in gaining admission into Stony Brook Univ. School of Medicine." I believe she can be reached via the SOMadmissions e-mail.

Edit: sorry to hear the bad news. I hope the rest of your cycle goes well!
