2015-2016 Wake Forest University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Apparently if it says that "applications are reviewed continuously throughout the season" you are on hold.

Mine has said that since the first day I submitted my application, after I got the confirmation email. I don't think that means being 'on hold'. Unless they miraculously sent me a confirmation and put me on hold within 1 week of me applying.

I'm pretty sure mine was too. But looking through the thread from last year, someone called about that status and they confirmed it. Unless it has that status to say we are on hold to be reviewed. Not sure.

Well everyone gets that in their status after they are complete. Doesn't mean they were reviewed necessarily!

Where does it say that? When I log onto the portal, it shows no status, just my application.

There's a separate email (the initial) that has a link to the status page.

Also, I don't think that's an actual "hold" message. I'm pretty sure it's what everyone has when they're complete until they get an II or are rejected (though, I don't think Wake has rejected anyone yet).

That's according to someone in last years thread, but I'm sure it is just the stage before an II or rejection.

Literally just watched this scene as I was scrolling through the page.

This may be a very silly question, but for those accepted - how do we notify "in writing" to hold our spot in the class? Does this mean email, or snail-mail letter? I tried calling the Ad Office, but the lines were busy each time and I'd like to let them know sooner rather than later. I remember writing this down on interview day ... but of course now I can't find those notes. Thanks guys, BIG CONGRATS to those accepted, and DON'T GIVE UP to those waitlisted/waiting for II!

They said just reply with an email and let them know the check is in the mail. Congrats! Waiting to hear my fate on oct 22/23rd

Interviewed here earlier this month, just gotta say I loved it here. Winston-Salem's weather is really mild, all of the med students I met were very happy, faculty care deeply, and it seemed like a tight knit community.

Where are all the interviews?! It seems like they've sent out virtually none.

They did tell us at the interview that they are sending out fewer interviews this year than in the past. Only about 450 interviews are going out this year, and last year they said they sent out about 250 offers (many off the waitlist) to fill 120 spots.

Does anyone who interviewed around the end of september remember when we can expect to hear a decision?

Having lunch with an MD/PhD from Wake and hearing so many awesome things. I really hope I get an II

Hiya

I'm currently in my first year at Wake. Even if you guys have already figured this out, I'll reiterate just to hammer the point home:
Call the admissions office if you haven't received an ii already

Do your research on the program before you interview and tell them why you want to be a part of the program.

If you're waitlisted don't give up. Keep calling and sending in letters.

I had a very low GPA, got an ii over the phone when I called to check status. So did 2 of my friends. Hint hint.

Got waitlisted and didn't get off until about a month before orientation, after sending 4 letters of interest.

Point being, just show them you want to come here. If that's actually the case it shouldn't be too hard. And be tactful, there's a fine line between being persistent and getting slammed with a restraining order hehe. Let me know if you have any other questions, and keep up the hard work
You're both absolutely correct, as a general rule it's a bad idea to assume something that works at one school will translate to another. So always be sure to read through past threads and gauge whether or not calls or letters seemed to work for good or for bad. For instance, Temple accepted absolutely no calls last cycle. Drexel lost both of my letters (continued interest while on waitlist) via e-mail, and seemed really pissed when I called and asked why they hadn't enclosed them in my file. (No bad blood there, just making a point - I totally understand in light of the fact that they receive record numbers of applications each year).

Nevertheless, when I had two friends clue me in on how they managed to score ii's, and when several other people, including one of my student hosts at the interview, told me about how they got off the waitlist after sending in letters, I felt like I couldn't pass on that protip.

So while you raise a good point, don't be so quick to discourage people from placing a quick phone call or sending a few e-mails to the good folks at Wake. It may irritate the admissions officers at other schools, but it's an expectation here, almost like an extra step in the admissions process, in addition to the AMCAS, the secondary, and the faculty interview. On at least 3 different occasions, I had 10 - 15 minute conversations with admissions/financial aid officers about football, or how cold the winters get in the northeast. If you play your cards right, and find a balance between appearing determined without being too desperate (I was about as desperate as they come), then it can only help you.

TL;DR

Just trust me on this one - give the office plenty of time before calling or writing a letter to check on the status, tell them how stoked you are to be a student here, and see where it takes you.

^^literally trying to sabotage other applicants. definitely not true considering admissions employees are paid to do jobs that don't include spending 1+ hours a day talking to every student reading this thread for an interview

OMG guys it works I called yesterday and right away they offered me an II and 15% off my car insurance if I switch to Geico!! Best day ever

After an anxious day of waiting this is the best way to end a day!!!! Love it! Thanks for making my day!!!

On a more serious note, is the first part really true or are you just being sarcastic? 😉

Hey guys,

How long will wake forest take to review my app? I know it's still early, because I am currently my 5th week for WFU? Does it take 2 or 3 months for them?

TYVM

I have been complete since late July and I have nothing but radio silence.

The Dean liked my post as well as another previous post stating that the "call for II" thing was BS. So I'm gonna go out on a limb and say it's BS

just got a "complete" email after like 27 days

I got the following email the day after I submitted. Does yours say the same thing?

All materials needed for your application have been received and your file is now complete.

Your application will be reviewed throughout the year and if granted an interview, we will send you an invitation by email. Interview is by invitation from September through March. If you have not heard by April, you will receive notification of your status at that time.

So it looks like they either tell you if you have a II or decline your application come April.
