2016-2017 Loma Linda University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I had my primary verified the first day that AMCAS opened, and applied to Loma Linda that same day, but I haven't yet received a secondary. Should I follow-up with them?

Yeah, you should. From the LLUSM website:
"Upon receipt of an AMCAS application (allowing up to 6 weeks after submission of the application to AMCAS), an email is sent inviting the applicant to complete a supplementary application. If this email invitation is not received within two weeks after notification from AMCAS that an application is verified, please call the Office of Admissions at 909.558.4467. "

Does anyone know when LLU starts reading non-SDA applications? I'm ready to turn my secondary in right now, but I have to wait 2-3 weeks for LLU to process my fee waiver, and I'm not sure if this will negatively affect me...

I am the same way. Completed application just waiting to get fee waiver approved. Have you bee approved?

I got the secondary but I was wondering if they pre-screen for secondaries. Any one?

Absolutely! During your summer between first and second year, you'll have the opportunity to do paid research with LLU faculty in basic sciences or almost any of the specialities. I am doing dermatology research this summer, and I have several friends doing urology and cardiac research. Opportunities for research here are plentiful.

That's good to hear. I am applying to LLU for the Christian atmosphere. But I would like an opportunity to get involved in research.

Heard through the grapevine that there has been a few II's that have gone out already. Probably the early acceptance program peeps.

can anyone confirm loma linda's policy on multiple mcats? i've seen somewhere that they look at all scores
i really fit their mission but have 3 mcats, with the 3rd being in their range

So... I'm Catholic and I applied here. I'm pretty religious and open to chapel services and learning about a new religion. Do I still have a chance?
I think you do, I think their generally pretty accepting! there is one tiny detail I should probably mention though....not to freak you out but an SDA friend told me once that some Adventists (including himself) believe that the Pope/Roman Catholic Church is the anti-christ.... and a quick google search right now confirmed that SOME indeed did/do hold negative views of Catholicism.

So the point I'm getting at is:
If I were you on your secondaries I'd play it safe and not focus too much on aspects of your faith/service that are unique to Catholicism...I guess frame your service/religiosity in a way that all Christians can relate with

does anyone know if the LOR from a pastor/clergy is a strict requirement to gain an interview?

haven't been approved yet... :/

they also give everyone secondaries
For the fee waiver. I gave them a call few days ago and they instructed with to go ahead with submission. The the check option. Not the elcteonic check the other one. So o think we only had to wait for three week from the receipt of our application. Maybe you should call them for clarification too.

Will do, thanks!!

Nope, not necessary. I know someone who didn't have a pastor LOR and ended up matriculating

my personal issue is that I am not an active member of a church. I've done volunteer service in a Christian church for a completely different denominiation than the one I was raised in. I dont know the pastor/clergy of the church. The only person I know is the head of the services wing of the church who can be my reference for volunteering. So Idk who to put for "religious contact" that the secondary asks me for. This person who directs the service is not a clergy or pastor, but he has a position in the church's community service affairs.

I'm a believing Christian, but just not active in religious services so much. I've delayed this app by over a month trying to figure out what to do for the "involvement with the religious group" prompt. I am not involved in my own religious group, and I am only involved with another church for mainly volunteering stuff (and I go to sermons on Sundays sometimes so I can volunteer after it ends)

So basically I wont have a clergy letter or contact

Any advice?

Are we required to submit a Clergy letter?

How important do you think it is? My religion/temple doesn't have clergy; I just put "not applicable"...

It allows us to get a better idea of who you are as a person and how your faith plays a role in your daily life. Personally, I think it is important, based off the makeup of people I see in my class. Officially, I don't know; only the admissions people can tell you that. I can only tell you based off what I see in my own class.

Was I the only one who received an FAQ email from LLU today?

I am just thoroughly confused about what to put for the Clergy contact...If I put N/A, then I feel like my chances here are over and 100 bucks went down the drain.

I can somehow justify putting my director of service at the church as a "religious contact", but I just do not know the actual main church/sermon leader, I was never involved with him

It's a black and white situation, and I am in a very gray position

I'd just be honest. I was pretty honest about how I hadn't been to church since going to college but that I wanted to start going. Of course, I went into more detail than that, but also gave them the pastor's number and mentioned he might not even remember me because it's been so long. If you are genuine about your desire to make religion a part of your med school experience, I think they would be able to see that.

Has anyone received an interview invitation yet? Did they mail it? I just got an email that said my file was complete and after it is reviewed they will notify me of their decision via postal mail. Seems odd for interviews so I was worried it meant a rejection letter would be on the way.

Just got a complete email today. Submitted all materials in mid-late July. Lets hope II start to follow in the next month or two.

Anyone else getting the LLU statistics/FAQ E-mails? Got one today and on 9/2/2016...

Did anyone get an email today saying their recommendations are complete and that their decision will be noticed via postal mail?

When did you submit your app? I got a similar email but sounds like this one is newer? I was submitted 8/24

I applied through EDP. I haven't heard anything yet. Safe to assume no interview? Any input would be appreciated!

has anyone heard back since submitting at the end of august??

Nothing yet... Got the email that recommendations are complete last week. I submitted my secondary mid July. The wait is killing me!

Does anyone have any idea when LLU starts sending IIs for non-SDAs?
