2016-2017 Rosalind Franklin University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is just my opinion and somethings could be misconceptions, so correct me if I am wrong.

1) I like how candid the school is about what happened in the past.
2) Current students were helpful during the interview and seemed happy to be there. Before the interview, there were two students (a MS1 and MS3) who addressed our questions. I must've asked around 20 or so questions and both of them didn't get annoyed and were frank about their experience at CMS. I interviewed at 4 schools. At the first school, I got the impression that majority of people that I had the chance to speak to were there because they didn't have any other options. I also got the same impression from the students at the second school. I was dying to leave the third school. They had the biggest bunch of conceited d-bags that acted like they were God's gift. In other words, out of the four schools, I could see myself being the happiest at CMS.
3) The school is modern. Glass walls instead of cheap plaster. Smart classrooms. Lots of opened spaces. I might be nitpicking, but spending two years in a place that looks like a prison will make me miserable.
4) The class is broken up into four houses, each house with its own advisor. My undergrad institution had 30k people and it was literally impossible to meet with an advisor without booking an appointment few months in advance.
5) Campus housing and different types of housing. You can get a one bedroom apartment with your own kitchen, living room, bedroom. I can't see myself being comfortable with having to share my living quarters with someone else.
6) Opportunity to switch from the MD program to the MD/Phd program after MS1.
7) Older students help you to succeed.
8) Lectures are recorded and attendance is not mandatory. Even though I'll probably attend every lecture, but if I don't, I don't need for the school to be up my a.. about it.
There are probably more reasons, but I am drawing blanks at the moment.
Thank you so much for taking the time to give the detailed response ! Good to know other's perspectives, I am yet to interview here, so it's helpful. Good Luck !

Np. If I think of anything else, I'll edit my post. But I am very happy that I got accepted to CMS. Good Luck to you as well.

You should worry about seeming considerate when you answer the MMI questions. Most MMI stations regardless of school are between 5 to 10 minutes in length each. Prepare to be on the lower end and have fast reading and thinking skills. Don't rehearse but practice a confident tone. You really can't prepare, some stations may be better for you than others.

Have any of you received the 24-48 hour confirmation email after scheduling your interview?

I got an automatic acknowledge after reserving a spot with options to confirm, reschedule and cancel, but I haven't received a conformation email from RFU within the 48 hours.

I want to wait until receiving that to book a plane ticket. Is the acknowledgement supposed to be the confirmation or is there another formal confirmation?

I'm in the same boat, so maybe that's what the confirmation is.. I would assume

I know, just two more weeks or so. LECOM officially withdrew my acceptance today. LOL
Do you mind sharing your stats? And interview date and date of notification of acceptance. Sorry that I'm asking for so much

Yes to CMS (RFU) and to one other school. I was in the process of mailing them a check, but got the acceptance email from RFU before I mailed it.

How long did it take for you to get an acceptance? 4-6 weeks?

joining the complete crew... AT LAST

Question that may have been answered somewhere else (sorry if so): Is there a way to send a thank you note to the MMI interviewers?

I would send it to the admissions email and see if they can distribute it to the interviewers

RFU doesn't let you share the number of stations? Geez, that's strict.

No, you are not given an itinerary of the interview day or any information about the MMI until you are physically present at RFU.

If we were complete in early October, I guess we shouldn't expect to hear prior to December huh? 🙈 Pleease save some II for us RFU!

I'm probably going to end up going here or somewhere in the USA. Can anyone help out with phone plans? Canadian here, my contracts expiring soon and I don't want to renew knowing I'll be moving :/.

The unfortunate reality is phone plans for a single person are going to be 80-100 bucks on most carriers. You should see what coverage looks like in the areas for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon. T-Mobile has WiFi calling so it may be the best choice anyways

There are a number of pay-as-you go plans that will run you $25-45/mo without a contract. You may or may not be able to keep your current phone, but you should be able to keep your current number actually I don't know if that works for Canadian numbers...
Anyway, some carriers to look up: Virgin Mobile, Cricket Wireless & Total Wireless, in addition to the big 3 (Verizon, ATT, Sprint) who all have no-contract plans.

I have no idea whether these work in Canadia or how much calling across the border would cost, but they all have websites that should answer that.

Theres a good Tmobile plan for about $30-35 a month with 100 mins calling, unlimited international texting and 4G. It's if you've never been a Tmobile customer before. It's a little tricky since it's a Simcard based plan, ie, you'd need a international iphone version. Order the SIM card and activate with that option. I'd do some searching around for instructions but it's doable.

Anyone interviewing on 4th going to be flying into chicago early thursday. I plan to do a little sightseeing before taking the metra up to RFU
