Does RFU do an orientation week? Or is it only these Accepted Student Days? I can't make either of the accepted student days.

Anyone planning to live at the Woodlands Apartments that is looking for a roommate? (the application opens in March!)
PM me if interested!
If you're looking at Deer Valley, check out Forest Pointe as well, really nice apartments and its the same distance as deer valley, hmu if u want more deets! And with that, any first years or second years:
Where do most people live? I'm looking at woodlands but also at Deer Valley apartments. Basically debating between proximity vs having a washer and dryer in the apartment vs on the main floor.
@Nickerbocker when I tour in feb I'll let you know how woodlands is 🙂

I'm a BMS student who currently lives in Woodlands. Of the people I know, 90% either live in student housing or Woodlands, with others living at Deer Valley, Forest Pointe, Navy housing, or somewhere else. If proximity vs washer/dryer is your only hangup between Woodlands/Deer Valley, I'd go Woodlands. Assuming all buildings are like mine, the way washer/dryers are is that there is one laundry room per stairway with two washers and two dryers. Each stairway has 12 apartments, but some of the Woodlands apartments have their own laundry, so it is split between less units. I've lived here 6 months, and only once have I gone to do laundry and had to wait. It's $1.25 to run the washer and $1.25 to run the dryer, so depending on how much laundry you are planning on doing, that might be something to consider too.And with that, any first years or second years:

is there a way we can find roommates to live with and when should we apply for Woodlands at the latest?
The Facebook group will help a lot. Which forum are you referring to? Also, are you guys using the little booklet they gave at the interview as a guide for housing? You can apply now for the waitlist for when the actual application opens in march. As for roommates I think they're making a fb group soon to help out? Plus there's a forum or something. Are you coming to the thing in feb?? 🙂

Waitlisted just now. Interviewed 11-18.
Yeah, RFU interviews until April, so there probably won't be movement until they've concluded interviews. After being waitlisted at a different school last year I noticed a lot of movement from many schools after the "traffic rule" date.I was also waitlisted, same time you were. 12/2. Anyone else waitlisted? Seems like there should have been more activity here, since to my knowledge there wasn't a waitlist until now.
Either way, we might be in for the long haul. Last year's thread had no notice of acceptances/waitlist activity from December until April.
I emailed them about that and here's what they told me (no mentioning of RSVP):
"Thank you for your email regarding the Accepted Student Visit Day. We encourage students to attend the event as it is a great opportunity for you to begin building connections and hopefully get any remaining questions that you may have answered. However, if you are unable to attend the event, we will be hosting another Admitted Student Visit Day on Saturday, April 22. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!"

How do you get into Navy housing? Is there an online application? And is it within walking distance?I'm not sure what booklet they gave you, but just wanted to let you guys know that the on-campus housing is pretty expensive compared to housing in the surrounding area. I'd suggest you look around at residences. I lived in the Navy housing during my second year and my roommate and I paid a total of $1300 for a 3-bedroom, much less than what we'd have paid if we lived on campus.

Looks like the going rate is about $920/month per person for the 2-bedroom and $1250/month for the one bedroom on campus, and that's ignoring the fact that you're only there for the school year so the first contract is technically only for 9 months.

I am interested in the private one bedroom apartment on campus. Does the school's set expense budget allow for it?Depends where in the complex where you live as there are multiple subdivisions. And I'm not sure if the application process has changed; when I was a student, I had to call. It's not only for those in the Navy, though; many civilians (including me!) live in navy housing.
The only places that are definitely within walking distance are the Woodlands apartments and the on-campus apartments.

If anyone has any Woodlands questions, I can try to answer them. I like living here for the location, my apartment is huge, and it is relatively quiet. They are good about maintenance and seem to listen to feedback. For next year they adjusted the rent down to closer fit the market, and they are installing free wifi for all apartments. The only negatives for me is that it is overpriced, the appliances are old, and I live on the third floor with no elevator.
Feb 3, 7 & 10do you know what dates are available/left?
Feb 3, 7 & 10
I would give them until the very end of Feb for interviews, since they get a lot of rejection of seats by then and they need to accomodate the changing numbers. Is this your dream school? +they are backed up because they recieved a ton of apps. (Like always)do you until when they interview? This is all i found on the website and it seems pretty vague "Interviews typically begin in September and continue until the class is full."
They had trouble filling the apartments last year. I only came after they offered me more than one discount on rent to fill my apartment. There are many people who signed up to have a roommate and ended up with an apartment by themselves because there were more apartments than people. I know of multiple apartments that have sat empty for the last 6 months. There are very little one bedroom units though, like I heard there are only ten or something. Pets are restricted to only a few buildings, so there might be higher demand if you have a pet. All that being said, last year was their first year renting through Rosalind Franklin and it was kind of a mess and everything was last minute. I'd expect higher demand this year because they will have more time to promote, plus they reduced rent and are including WiFi.Do most people trying to get into the Woodlands get in, or are there more applicants than apartments?
and do folks usually get their top choice for apartment? Their website says the one bedrooms are in high demand and to list 2 bedrooms in the preference list also to make sure you get a room. Just trying to gauge how hard it is to get a place there...

How does the 9 month housing contract work? Do you have to move out until you get an apartment for another school year or are the other 3 months free?It does. They set that budget specifically so that the bloated prices of their one-bedrooms will be covered.

Yep, unless you want to be constantly bumming rides off of other people. There's nothing here within walking distance, there are rarely Ubers available, and Lyft doesn't operate here.Is a car recommended for 1st and 2nd year students living on campus/woodlands ? I am from California and am debating whether or not to bring my car to Chicagoland.
And thanks to all the current students on the housing tips! Super helpful.
When did you interview if you dont mind me asking?Waitlisted
