2016-2017 Tufts University Application Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
The class make up, excluding main track, is 60% north east and 35% Massachusetts. MA ties definitely matter.

I'd argue it's more selection bias over ties mattering. Much like how a large portion of the class is from Tufts undergrad, or how any school has a sizable portion from their own undergrad.

Do you know anything about the student hosting program? Would I be in walking distance of admissions? Trying to save some money and forego a hotel.
All student hosts are volunteer. I would say 95% live within a 15-20 minute commute (walk or T) from campus.

does anyone know if Tufts is receptive to in the area emails? I will be flying in to Boston from the west coast and I would rather not pay for the same trip multiple times, if it could be avoided
They are receptive to them, but it won't influence when they look at your file.

Its MMI?!

Can anyone with a regular MD interview confirm if those are MMI as well?
Maine track is MMI. Trad MD is 2 members of the AdCom. This can either be two faculty or one faculty and one 4th year.

I would say the majority of the in-state students either went to Tufts undergrad or did the MBS program here. We also have a substantial portion of our class from CA.

I'm still working on the secondary, and I was wondering if anyone got an II/acceptance without answering the first secondary question (Do you wish to include any comments...). I figure if they wanted Why Tufts they would've asked for that right?

Received II and left it blank.

Not that I'm getting greedy, but does anyone know if there's anyway to tell if those of us who have Maine Track interviews are still under consideration for the regular Tufts track? I love both and it would be cool to have options. Or maybe you get an interview for one or the other?

According to the website, decisions on the two applications are independent. You may interview and be accepted or rejected for either or both, and results for one program have no effect on the other.

Been almost 2 months since my app was verified and I still haven't gotten a secondary from Tufts - LizzyM 71 w/ 3.6 GPA and 517 MCAT - anybody have any idea what happened lol.

Mine went from under screening to your application is ready. What does this mean?

From the 2012--2013 thread:

"I just talked to the admissions and they said that the 'under screening' status means that the application is in an initial screening. After that status is removed they said it means that the application has moved on to another committee, 'committee of doctors' to be screened for an interview invite." - @Livinthedreem

It appears that many go on to receive both II and rejections following this phenomenon.

Love the investigative work

When admissions makes a decision you will be notified via email. I know it's difficult to stop checking the portal, but you're just going to stress yourself out trying to parse the language. I was just talking to another first-year and they didn't get an II until Feb and they were complete in July. So if you want to stress yourself out for potentially the next 5 months, go for it.

And good luck to everyone coming next week to interview. I'll see you at lunch.

+1 for the change back to "Application is Ready." Not reading a ton into it, but I hope it's good news!

For those of you who have already interviewed at Tufts, could you shine some light on their Global Health Programs? I'm very interested in it, but there is limited information available on their website. I'm wondering if they said anything specific about it during your interview day.

Thank you in advance!

They will touch on it briefly during your interview day, but no more in depth than what you see on the website.

Been complete since 7/11, just got an email asking for an institutional action letter.

I got that request a week before my interview invite. Prayers up that good news is headed your way 😉

Anyone with an application status of "application is ready" since it was submitted get an interview invite?
Or is this a rejection on hold?

Anyone else complete mid-July who still hasn't heard back yet? Feel like I got passed over, especially with this most recent II batch seeming to be from mid-late July 🙁. P.S Congrats to those that got II's here!

In the same boat. Complete 7/14. Only solace is that I got an email asking for an institutional action letter, which means that have at least read my application recently. I choose to believe that they're reviewing all of ours from mid-July as we speak!

Just because you were complete early doesn't mean you were passed over. July/August applicants are still sent II in the spring. I received mine in December. Chin up, unless a rejection hits your inbox, you are still in the running.

Congrats to all who received II today and good luck to those coming tomorrow for the first interview day. If anyone has questions or want something to do when you come to interview, PM me. There are plenty of us willing to answer them for the price of a beer.
