Sry - didn't mean to be rude! I actually thought this might be late cycle gallows humor haha. I agree with Alpos. Calling to explain is 100x better than just sitting on it. It also shows that you were diligent enough to go back through and find your error, which is important. And brave enough to acknowledge and confront it. If you didn't call, they probably would take it more seriously. The way I think of it is, say this was writing down the dosage for a drug... everybody is capable of a typo, but they'd want somebody who looked back over their work and found the mistake and corrected it post-haste. I'd call Monday!

Hey,

I hope this helps at least a little. Not the same situation, but I accidentally sent an essay that was over the limit for one school and it literally cut off 3/4 of my last sentence and I got into the school. So, it's not the same situation, but obviously one typo doesn't make or break everything.

No offense OP, but you copied and pasted a secondary word-for-word for another school and obviously made no changes or else you would have noticed it. Look it get it, there are common questions that a lot of schools ask. We have all recycled essays. But when you are competing against 9k+ other applicants, trivial/stupid errors have impact - esp one's that take 5 minutes to correct. You can get mad at the responses you've heard, but you were the one who failed to proofread a medical school application.

As for @LLMean 's comment. There are two scenarios here. Either OP just submitted their secondary recently in which case i'd say they are already fighting an uphill battle to get admitted and this doesn't help. Or they submitted at least 2 months ago, haven't heard a response, were getting anxious, re-read their essays and only now realized this mistake. If the latter's true, this was not caught post-haste and odds are the AdCom has already noticed the error.

I'm sorry this isn't what you wanted here @RopingDoc , but I'm not going to put a positive spin on something like this. It sucks. I'm sure when you noticed the blood rushed out of your face and your heart sank. It's miserable. If you want to contact Admissions tomorrow, go for it. It honestly can't hurt. But if you want a silver lining, I have faith you'll never make a mistake like this again.

On the other hand, the adcom here is incredibly understanding and just generally cares about the applicants, so it is very possible that they will not really care all that much about it. Two sides to everything.

U do realize you made a silly/major error on something as important as your future career, and you are lecturing us about you hope we arent your doctor?? Also I wasnt trying to be mean but you asked a pretty silly question but I do realize this is a stressful process so I apologize if I came off rude . I hope u get in somewhere though OP

Obviously I realize it was a crucial mistake, and I already feel bad about it. To clarify, I submitted almost 2 months ago and was checking all of my application portals and I noticed the mistake. Although I initially copied and pasted, my final essay was much different than the original. Dumb mistake I know, but I had already assumed I was dead in the water. I was looking for any hope that was/is possible. Thanks everyone!

Why would that be the consensus, given that their deferment email clearly states that you will be considered against applicants at future admissions meetings? It seems like the consensus should be that your status has, basically, not changed.

Anyone who interviewed November 1st remember the date they said we will receive their decision? Wasn't it like Tuesday or Wednesday of this week?

I interviewed Nov 10 and I believe that they said this week for us, so probably same for you!
 
Did anyone get a call who interviewed after 11/10? Just wondering if I should meter my expectations...

Radio silence- 11/1 interview. :help: For goodness sakes I'm cool with being rejected but please just hit the send button.
 
Has anyone heard any other news? Rejection or hold? Not sure how to interpret the silence.

At my interview they weren't specific about what day they would be calling. Did they give you an exact day? I'm having a minor nervous breakdown at work right now!

I got that from my Boston interview last month. This whole process has really exposed an anxious side of myself that I've never seen before

They did not give me any time range that I remember but I'm anxiously awaiting a response as well.

Did they give any sort of time frame? For Maine track? E.g. You interviewed this date they said you'd hear by this date...

Silence since july, and this school doesn't reject right? I'm getting so antsy about all my apps, I want to send an in the area email here but also I literally live here

I interviewed just before the adcom meeting last month. All they said was that we weren't being considered with that bunch, but with the group this month. They always say
around the first week of the following month (eg, first week of Dec), but more often than not they start making phone calls to accepted students the day after the meeting. So, basically.... We have no idea.

I recall reading that they reject very very late (think closer to the tail end of the cycle). Though correct me if I'm wrong. Also sitting in silence since July.

Yes, looking at last year's thread it seems they went out February at the soonest. That sucks! I can't figure out how long their interview season tends to be?

I'm still able to look back at interview availability and the last date they have on the calendar is March 14th. Hope that's helpful to anyone who is curious!

:O yikes. Theyre either moving really quickly or they let you schedule super far back. Hoping it's the latter

Definitely the latter. When I first got my II back in September, I could schedule all the back until March. They just list all of their days and let students fill in as they send out invites.

Edit: Also for reference, In September and October, they were booking about a month in advance. Don't know if that is still the case at this point in the cycle.
