did anyone who’s been accepted get an email about an official welcome to RFUMS?? it says i submitted an intent to enroll, but i don’t think i did unless they count my acceptance of their offer...does this mean i’ve essentially submitted an LOI??? anyone also experiencing this?

The acceptance email is all you get until after the new year. You should be getting the immunization/background check and housing emails sometime at the end of January.

Did anyone figure out how to set up the helix net email? When i click the instructions link in the email it just takes me to a page for if you forgot your password and already have a user ID...

Rejected post interview. ouch. Congrats to those who did not get the hammer

Sorry to hear that 🙁 I'll probably "get the hammer" next since I felt like my MMI's did not go well. If you don't mind me asking, when did you interview/get the email? Also, best of luck to you with your other schools!

Well you interviewed the same time I did I believe. I interviewed 10/27 so sounds like you're in the clear. I know that my ECs are a bit lackluster, but wish I could get interview feedback.

Sorry to hear that. Hang in there. This process isn’t over till it’s over. I also interviewed 10/27 and haven’t heard anything. Anybody else?

I interviewed same day, haven't heard anything yet. Are we expected to hear soon?

Be glad you haven't. I've deduced it down from the past threads; Rs go out, then waitlists and acceptances. These happened days apart in some cases. That's why I pretty much knew my email was a rejection before I read it.

Oh I'm so sorry about that 🙁
Does anyone have an idea the latest ii date they're releasing decisions for now?

II about an hour and a half ago! OOS, LM 69. Can people that interviewed here comment on what you thought? I have been researching but some personal experiences would be awesome to read. Also, does anyone know Rosalind Franklins previous ranking, if any, on US News? They are unranked in 2017 and I am trying to look for a metric to compare schools. Thanks for any help!

Congrats! Mind sharing your complete date? Thanks!

Hey there - congrats!

CMS is an unranked school but it would be a low ranked school, around the level of Drexel or creighton, if it were to be ranked on USNWR. But don't evaluate a school by rank!!

The MMI is VERY fast paced compared to other ones I've had. This combined with the fact that the interviewers are able to ask questions means you often won't get to answer the whole question. I thought that was pretty frustrating. A lot of the faculty have been there longer than any of us have been alive.

There is a tour and a session with a few current students (M1-M4). It was great to be able to talk to students from all years --- that's fairly unusual. It seems like most other schools only give you time with M2s. The students are SUPER nice. Most of them live on campus for years 1 and 2, as the school is in a crappy suburb.

Out of curiosity what makes you say it would have a low rank?

Also, just wanna add that US News rankings are also based on other things besides how "good" the school is; I.e. how much funding/NIH grants they get for research, how much research a faculty member may do, selectivity of the school, etc. You should just pick a school because you love it there and see yourself there for four years! Happiness > numbers

I'll preface it by saying that I don't think USNWR rank matters much in medical school choice, out side of top 10-15.

But some big factors that are reflected in us News rankings are 1) stats of incoming class, 2) selectivity and post acceptance matriculation rates, 3) research funding, 4) hospital affiliations.

I don't imagine that CMS would be in the top out of all schools. It's still a great school and I loved it.

Just hit the 10 week mark. Complete email 9/28. Hopefully I'll hear soon?

We are underfunded by NIH. Most of the research that the school does is in basic science/bench research, but we do have research available to us through the hospital affiliates or through the sites where previous students have done research. Furthermore, with the new research building there will be more research going on (clinical and translational). We are affiliated with all of the Advocate medical centers through out Chicagoland and Cook County/Stroger which is one of the best trauma centers in Illinois.

Edit: As for the "crappy suburb" comment, it is not that bad. There is not much going on as there would be in a big city, but the local entertainment is fairly decent. The area is also very safe. You don't have to worry about being mugged outside of the school.

To everyone getting IIs, are you getting notified via email?

Note that it's about 45 minutes outside of Chicago. North Chicago kinda makes you think it's closer to Chicago than it really is, lol.

So is Rosalind Franklin to Chicago the same as New York Medical College is to New York? Because NYMC is in Valhalla and I always feel badly when people getting IIs there get hyped about visiting New York City...

Distance-wise, kinda. When I went to interview it was about a 30 minute uber ride from O'hare. That being said, it's not super difficult to get into the city, they have a train station pretty close by that they said they have a shuttle to.

Anyone know if they're reviewing based on priority (higher stats first) or completion dates? Coming up on week 18 here and it's a bit frustrating to say the least.
I'm with you. Week 16 since the "Application Complete" email.

Yep basically.

Some students live in downtown Chicago during their 3rd and 4th year, but you'd be crazy to do that in years 1-2.

2017 Class profile = 3.37 sGPA and MCAT of 507
History of mid-80s graduation rate for a period of a couple years but I think they've rebounded in the past 2
Low federal and NIH funding.

They're still a great institution in their own way like 99% of medical schools, but those stats/facts are the reason why they're considered low-tier. These "rankings" are pretty numbers based and sometimes biased towards research, so they shouldn't be the sole determinant/most significant factor when considering what school is best for you. RFUMS is a pretty great clinical school and they match very well in the midwest.

3.37 sGPA and 507 MCAT? With a mid-80s graduation rate? Aren't these stats....not good?

What's the source?

Since we are on the topic of rankings...
I was curious how Rosalind Franklin University (definitely a lower-tier M.D. school) would compare to a high-ranked D.O. school (such as DMU or CCOM).
I get that this is like comparing apples to oranges but I am kind of curious on everyone's thoughts.

I just checked MSAR which reported the median sGPA as 3.56 and median MCAT as 511. It doesn't specify year (or at least I don't see it) but I'm gonna guess 2016.

It also received over 12k applications. Also doesn't specify year - but, again, I'm gonna guess 2016.
