I got an interview invite 8/18 and signed up for my invite within a couple hours of receiving the email. The first available date was the third week of January. I took it, but I'm feeling insecure now. Is interviewing later going to negatively impact my chances? That's so far away...

I interviewed late January two cycles ago. Girl in my group got in. You got a shot.

Very disappointed. I interviewed here last year, got waitlisted, and reapplied this year with a significantly improved app but was just rejected

Chin up. Same thing happened to me last two cycles. Exactly. Met with the dean, asked specifically how they'd like to see me improve, and made those improvements. Now, I have one of the earliest interview dates for this cycle. Keep on keeping on. You'll get there. Show your grit.

They probably assign the open interviews to late-scheduled people first, then new applicants get the vacant later one. Just a thought, no sources cited.

Anybody have any advice on this? When I got the II there were literally 3 days of interviews left, but I'm sure spots will open up as people cancel through the cycle. You can't reschedule through the portal though nor do I have any way of knowing if dates opened up. Would it be inappropriate to contact admissions later in the process and ask them if there are any new openings? I'm not sure what to do but it really stresses me out that my interview is THAT late

improve MCAT score, make it more clear to interviewers why I'd like to be a doctor, so basically gain more clinical experience/better prepare for future interviews. check and check.

You can call and ask them but I think you should just schedule an interview and wait it out buddy. You have no way of knowing when more dates open up for you to schedule those dates.. this isn't an ideal situation, but if you really blow them away during your interview I'm sure you can still get an acceptance.

So far Tulane has not been shy about flat out rejecting people. If you were rejected, they would tell you.

From their website:

Applicants will be interviewed by one faculty member or administrator. All interviews with faculty members or administrators are "blind" and informal. The interviewers will be able to see the applicant's secondary application and the personal statement if they choose to do so.

The interviewee will also participate in a "standardized patient" exercise in which they will play the role of a first year medical student interviewing a patient. Applicants will be also be interviewed by a current Tulane medical student. The student interview will be in the form of a "working lunch." All interviewers will write a report about the interview and that report will become a part of the applicant's file. With the addition of the interview reports, an applicant's file is considered complete and ready for review by the Admissions Committee.

"Can I check the status of my application online? Yes. Once your application is complete, there is no change to the status of your application unless you're invited for an interview. All applications are kept in review throughout the interview season. Very few are rejected during the interview season."

So they're saying that they don't reject outright most of the time, but hold on to files until the end of the cycle. :'(

Is that the FAQ PDF? I looked at that a few months ago and pretty sure it's from over a year ago so maybe they changed the policy or way they do things

Thanks. I was complete 7/19. Bit surprised at my rejection, considering I have interviews at some more reasonably competitive schools, but I assume I didn't have the proper fit with Tulane.

That's even crazier that you received an II within a few days after going under review! Congrats! Also, its promising to hear that spots early in the cycle are already starting to open up.
