2019-2020 Albany

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
in addition to this....when the UC list is made into an alternative list, will albany allow updates at that point or is it still rank based with no updates?

Your numerical “score” as an applicant is determined at the committee meeting they discuss you. They don’t ever reevaluate your application so that’s why they don’t accept updates.

They were pretty clear on interview day that we wouldn’t find out our ranking so let’s just hope for the best!

Yep! They were very transparent on the interview day about how their process works and what they do and do not tell applicants.

I wonder how big the UC list is. Best of luck to everyone still waiting, including myself!
On my interview day someone asked this and they didn’t give an exact figure. They did say that this list does not contain everyone who interviewed and did not get accepted outright, which indicates it’s going to be somewhat smaller than the 800 who they interviewed.
Sorry I can’t give a better answer

Hey everyone! If any accepted/UC/etc. students are interested, I just wanted to pass along some social media info about a couple of our student organizations focused on groups that are underrepresented in medicine. The big one is the Underrepresented Student Alliance (@albanyusa), which was just founded last year and acts as a coalition between all the smaller individual associations - we just got our insta page up and running so that's super exciting! A couple of the groups within the umbrella of USA include the Student National Medical Association (SNMA - insta: snma_albany) the Latinx Medical Student Association (LMSA - insta: lmsaalbany), and the Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA).

For those accepted - there will be Q&A sessions held by these and other organizations as part of virtual second look day this Friday! Thanks ya'll, & as I've mentioned before, don't hesitate to reach out if you'd like to be put in contact with anyone from any of these organizations.

I’m not sure. It’s only for people who interviewed as it’s a conditional acceptance. I turned it down. Good luck all!
Was it a choice between accepting the conditional offer or being rejected? Or are you still able to be on UC?

If I'm not mistaken yes the choice is either to be accepted for the conditional offer or be rejected. You will not be able to remain on the UC list.

It sounded like it was between accepting the conditional offer or being rejected. I looked at old posts and other schools who participate in the AMSNY program have accepted students who were waitlisted even after they turned down the postbac program offer. I don’t think Albany does that. If you’re under UC, and you are offered the AMSNY, it’s that or nothing.

Are there criteria for getting into the post-bac program?

It's part of AMSNY's Diversity in Medicine Program - so it's geared towards students who are underrepresented in medicine. In the case of AMC, it is required that you do a regular interview for admission in order to be eligible, though some schools that participate interview exclusively for the program (i.e., separate and regardless of whether you interviewed for straight-up admission). Also, it's entirely nomination-based.

& yes, when AMC makes a post-bac offer, that is the admissions decision (i.e., you either accept it or are no longer considered for admission during the cycle).

Also, fwiw, it's tuition-free w/ a stipend.

Interviewed 3/11 and still haven’t heard anything. Was hoping we would hear today. Anyone else in the same boat?
same!!! They told us mid april, so I was actually anticipating it being some time last week (as that was obviously mid April), especially considering there was an April 15th AMCAS deadline for narrowing your selections down to three acceptances. When Friday came and went, I was SURE that we would have had to hear today, and as you noticed, radio silence... I'm not sure what to make of it? In 9 days, we have to select our school in AMCAS, so I am really surprised they haven't let us know anything by now. I feel your pain.

Anyone that interviewed in early March hear back? This quarantine is making me a little crazier haha. I called a few weeks ago and they said that they would still be meeting virtually and do not anticipate an interruption in giving out decisions
I interviewd 3/11 and radio silence. I can see others in this thread are in the same boat!
