Sorry if this question has already been asked, but in the deferred email I got this afternoon they say deferred until March, but I remember hearing during interview day that some people who are deferred hear earlier than that. Is March more of a deadline for an update they’ve set for themselves and less of when I should expect to hear from them?

Accepted late afternoon via email. Did not receive a call (which is fine because I’d probably say something embarrassing in my excitement).

Edit: Forgot to mention that I interviewed in early October.

Anybody notice that in both the acceptance and scholarship emails they seem to have left a piece of boilerplate text: "It's a fact: people don't mind scrolling to read an email, as long as it's relevant and interesting. Make sure your message follows through on the promise in your subject line, and use several short paragraphs if you have a lot to say. When in doubt, challenge yourself to write less and add links that support your topic." For both, my email preview is just the subject line and that LOL.

I got that lol. Wonder if its part of the software they use for the emails...

that also might be what's triggering all these emails to get sent to my promotions tab. so weird

Can any current med students comment on the general culture/stress level/competitive atmosphere of the students at BU? I get the sense that they’re very stressed. I really loved the faculty and everything the school stands for, but I want to make sure that the students are cohesive in some sense and not miserable lol

Withdrew acceptance. Good luck to all folks! After finding out from here that their best scholarship is 15k/yr and I heard nothing, could never see myself attending here over current options. Students here seemed stressed out here even though the interview day and Dean Gooddell is amazing.

you won’t necessarily receive a scholarship offer on the first day they email people! I would’ve at least waited until the end of the week, but I understand your decision

Hi, M1 here. Not sure when you interviewed, and can't speak for every student, but from my experience so far, stress level generally coincides with the level of coursework going on at the moment. Earlier in the year during foundational stuff there was definitely a relaxed vibe (I actually had a TON of free time), as we've moved into anatomy and now neuro at the end of the semester, the amount of studying/lab sessions has picked up and I think we've all been grinding through it. Medical school was described to me as a series of highs and lows and I definitely agree with that so far.

Our class gets along/works together very well and I feel surrounded by people who are passionate about the social aspect of medicine, which was one of the reasons I chose to come here. I don't feel like the school is hyper-competitive at all, Pass/Fail is amazing and I don't really know a lot of "gunners" per se, I feel like people are all very supportive of one another.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions

Sooo helpful! Would you say the faculty and admin is accessible or more hands off once your start school? And how often are exams/ are lectures all recorded? Thanks!!

Can you comment on what made you feel this way? I’m curious.

Is a deferral essentially a rejection? I briefly went through last years thread and I only saw one person accepted from the masses that were deferred earlier (granted, I wasn't extensively looking)

No, pretty sure I heard they defer 85% of acceptances until March.

Don’t remember exactly, but it was lots of little things. Students at certain schools seemed to speak more of a work/life balance culture vs. other schools

Interesting. I only had 2 other interviews at significantly lower-tier schools, so it’s hard to directly compare.

I did sense a little more “uptightness,” you could maybe call it. But for me it’s BU all the way at this point.

Faculty/admin is definitely accessible, they take feedback very seriously and do not hesitate to change things about the curriculum/schedule based on what students say.

Exams tend to be every 3ish weeks, all lectures ARE recorded--occasionally there will be mandatory sessions i.e. patients coming in to talk about their experience or guest lectures about a specific clinical topic correlated with our current material, but these are not super frequent outside of the first two weeks or so.

anyone know if they end up releasing some decisions before march for those who were deferred until the march decision? or do they get released all at once on a specific march date

During my interview they said there will be no more admissions decisions released until March if I remember correctly

Hi- current student. Don't expect an FB group until March post the second round of decisions- most of the class is admitted at that point!
Hey! Could I possible PM you. Been admitted, just trying to get more of a vibe from current students!

Also important to remember (not just for BU but for other schools you're interviewing at) that you see students at different points in the semester. So, for example, you may have interviewed at school X at the beginning of a block where everyone is feeling great and stress-free and you may interview at school Y the week of an exam and there's just inevitably going to be a different vibe- no matter what school you go to. You won't find a school where students are stress-free 100% of the time, that's just not what you're signing up for.

Great point!! Never considered that, I’ll keep it in mind

Any current students willing to answer a couple Q's via pm?

For people flying in to Logan, what's the best way to get to campus? Is there a shuttle or do you just have to take an uber/lyft? Also, any cheap hotel recommendations? (couldn't get a student host) Thanks!

so there’s this random free airport bus that will drop you off in the middle of downtown. That’s what I took and then walked to my hotel. Boston people please help me out if this is still the case.
