2019-2020 Buffalo

I understand that it's random, but I've noticed a pattern of decreasing LM for OOS and they'll throw in an IS here an there. But I also believe it said rolling random which means it does sort of take into account order in which it was received but they will organize them.

Okay truee. UB is super holistic, you got this

Did anyone apply early decision? One part of the website specified you would hear back by October 1. Somewhere else on the website said “Early decision program” October 15-mid-April. Yet another place said if you are not accepted for early decision your application would be put in with the other applicants. I am curious both what the timeline is and if you are notified you are not accepted early decision and instead being placed with the applicant pool or if it is more of a silent rejection.

Early decision applicants must be notified before or on Oct 1st. You could also contact Mr.Rosso

Any above average stats, IS applicants seeing any love? Really like this school, would love to hear back from them soon. Complete 7/12.

Congrats to those receiving IIs. If you don't mind sharing, do you have pubs?

This is one of my top choices and kinda confused by the silence from a research-intensive school like this as I have received love from other less research-heavy schools

No, no pubs. My app is much more clinical experience-driven.

Tbh, I wouldn’t exactly call Buffalo a “research-intensive” school. They didn’t talk too much about research during interview day

interesting because they straight up ask "did you do research as an undergrad" on their secondary app lol

No pubs but about 2 years of research experience in different labs during undergrad, and research during my gap year. They didn't talk about research at all during interview day( at least not that I can remember) but the new med building has tons of amazing lab space so I guess its a medium research heavy school? It seems like there are definitely opportunities for students to get involved with research if they want to though.

I don't think just because they asked if you did it on the secondary (I honestly can't remember what else they asked) that it means it's one of their main criteria for giving out interviews.

thanks for the insight.

i was speaking relatively; if med school A doesn't ask about research explicitly but med school B does ask then i'm more inclined to label med school B as a "research-heavy" school.

No problem! This process is very confusing so I would just focus on the good news you've gotten from schools already and try not to read too much into why you haven't heard from other schools. Congrats on your other interviews!

Congrats! Stats/LM?
Thank you!

My ECs are very strong and I’m a nontraditional student. I also have research experience from a prominent academic institution but no publications.

P.S. For those of you out there with low stats, anything is possible. Sell yourself, for you are your greatest advocate. Let admissions know what’s up... it’s worked for me so far. Wishing all you gems the best of luck this cycle!

no pubs, but quite a bit of research work (2-3 years)

Thank you!

I agree with figuring out how to sell yourself. I’m not a fantastic applicant by any means, in fact I think I’m pretty well average across the board... but I have an interesting story and I’ve spun it well. This one particular aspect of my life has come up at every interview right out of the gate each time.

You don’t need a 4.0 and a 99%ile MCAT. You just need to make yourself stand out long enough to catch somebody’s attention.

If I’m getting these marketing emails post ll does that mean I’ll likely not get the A?

Sorry if this has been asked before but does UB take post II updates? Since they don't really have a portal I'm not sure where to check.
