2019-2020 Case Western Reserve

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I interviewed here for the university program on 9/4, and I have to say I loved it so much! The new building is stunning, and everyone I met seemed super friendly and happy. I'm just waiting in anticipation until Oct 15th to see if I got in. Fingers crossed!!

Would you say the interviews were relaxed? Did they have a set of questions they seemed to be going through?

Yeah, they have a set of questions all the interviewers are supposed to go through. That being said, my interviewers didn't seem terribly concerned with spending all our time strictly on the required questions. They seemed like they genuinely wanted to get to know me and answer any questions I had for them. It was super laid back, and we spent plenty of time talking about other things like shared research interests, work, and hobbies outside of school.

I agree with this. My interviewers asked me some standard questions and then also about some particular things they had each noted on my app. It was super conversational and I really enjoyed it. Very relaxed experience!

For those who interviewed both University and College program - financial aid aside, which school did you like more?

Personally, I might say I almost prefer the vibe of the University program. The College program has more that I personally would want for myself academically and professionally, but I genuinely enjoyed hanging out with the UP program students more. It was super cool seeing students just bump into random other students in the building, and I felt like the sense of community was much stronger. It felt a lot more like a "college" experience not too different from what I have right now at my UG, and I like that, whereas CCLCM felt more professional and "formal"...

Of course, I don't think that it's so black and white, especially since the new building allows for a lot more intermixing (I believe CCLCM had its own medical school separate from Case's old medical school), but it felt like CCLCM was a lot more segregated off — separate mandatory clerkships (except for Case students who opted to do rotations at the clinic), dress code for classes, etc. I also feel like the small class inherently makes it harder to find people with similar interests/identities, and I think that does play a decent role in social life development while at medical school.

Luckily, I heard that many extracurriculars and electives are for both Case and CCLCM students, which I think encourages a degree of mingling. That would tilt the scale in favor of CCLCM for me.

stupid Q, but if it took me 3 weeks to do the secondary, is that an auto-reject?
no one will know for sure but unless the secondary says you must submit it within a certain time period, you're probs fine 🙂

I believe they had a 2 week guideline.

you're right - "we strongly recommend that you complete the secondary application within two weeks of receipt; completing the secondary as early as possible may enhance your chances of being invited for an interview. Note that you will not be closed out of the application after two weeks, however." looks like you're not DOA though if you submit later

Yeah lol... def not DOA if you have a 527 MCAT but who knows.
I submitted on the 15th day (counting the day I received it, oh well)

Anyone know if Case accepts research updates post-interview? Tried to find it on the website but can't at the moment...

so do we hear back on Oct 15? or like when is the last interview date that would make that cut off?

IS/OOS and stats please
I think you forgot to say “Congrats!!”

Also, all their stats are in their signature! So if you’re on mobile, rotate your phone sideways and you’ll be able to see it. Half of every thread on here is just “stats??” When a lot of people have them in their signature already. Lol

Thanks! And whoopsies, how could I forget?? Pizza, small with extra tomato sauce, extra mushrooms on left half, and garlic. I prefer a thicker crust, not too burnt or crunchy.

Just to let you all know Case has been blasting the emergency alert system for past day and a half and may not be able to communicate today. (I never unsubscribed from these as I live in the area)

i have a day to myself in Cleveland next week, any recommendations for restaurants/attractions/touristy things to entertain myself with while I explore the city??
