2019-2020 Colorado

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II here recently, as well! Definitely looking forward to visiting Denver for a few days.

Does anyone know whether CU accepts "in the area" requests? (Sorry if that's already been gone over somewhere -- I couldn't find anything.)

Why would you need to submit an ITA if you have already been invited to interview? If the dates they offer don't work for you (and/or you'll already be there on another date), just ask them if that other date works to interview. I didn't ask for a date change, but they seem super nice and easy to work with.

I realized as soon as I posted this how odd that question would sound given the first half of the post. For clarification: my S/O is also applying this cycle, and is going to come to Denver with me regardless. Asking on his behalf, not mine!

I could be wrong but I believe ITA requests are reserved for situations where you already have an interview at another school in that city, since that's something the school could theoretically verify if they wanted to (and some will). I can't think of many other scenarios where an ITA email would be appropriate.

I wrote an ITA to a school and said I was in town visiting family and got an interview there on the same day. I think the reason doesn’t matter so much to them

Interviewing in a few weeks! Does anyone who has already interviewed/current students have any tips?

Would it be too early to send an ITA for mid-December? (Never sent an ITA before, so I'm cautious how to go about it)

No reply from OSU and a "you're welcome to visit our campus during that time..." from Colorado.

Per gonz in ITA Compendium thread, Colorado may not be super positive about it. I doubt it hurts to try though, and I wouldn't think its too early.

If they offer a mixer the night before, and you are able, go to it! It seriously helped me to calm down and get some good info from students
Good to know! I hadn't heard of that before now, do you know where information about that might be posted?

Seconding this. I feel like the way the lunch was organized, I didn't have enough time to talk to current students and get their opinions on the school. Those that went to the mixer or had a student host were much better off on that front.

They send you an email like the week of the interview, which was too late for me because I had already booked my flight at that point. But it sounds like a great chance to meet people and get a feel for the school environment!

@ accepted friends, did you guys receive anything in the mail, like an official letter or admissions packet? I haven't so I wanted to check.
A 10/16

Since Colorado interviews two Fridays each month with 60 per, then the 240 comes from September and October. Assuming that November dates are filled, that means there are 360 interviews already, which leaves about 300 interviews left assuming they haven't started scheduling December. Definitely still some hope for us in state boys

Ya I agree. I’m oos 10/4 interview, and I feel like it was 70%oos, 30%is. It was majority oos.

I've heard from some student interviewers that they prefer to invite OOS applicants first because of weather. They have no issue calling an instate person during a snow storm because driving there isnt a big deal when compared to travel issues or asking someone from Florida to navigate a foot of snow for the first time at 8 am.

As a Californian, I really appreciate this

I was accepted 10/17 via email, and I haven't received anything in the mail nor a phone call. I'm thinking that the majority of communications they will have with accepted students will happen next year, once they are mostly done with interviews. I'd imagine it's more efficient to focus on one thing at a time

Has anyone IS received a straight answer about their admissions timeline?

What do you mean by this exactly?
Like what the timeline looks like for IS applicants. There's a lot of speculation about saving IS for later in the season, so I was just wondering if anyone knows if this is the case? Have interviews that happened already been IS/OOS heavy?

I interviewed 9/27 and it was definitely majority OOS, but still a decent chunk of IS. But 2/3 of those who get interviews Overall are OOS anyway. I haven’t heard anything reliable other than hearsay on SDN that would indicate the IS interview timeline is any different than OOS

Thank you! That helps. Give some alma mater love, CU!

On the portal, I saw that "You application is ready, and under review."

I don't think I've noticed the "under review" part before. Is that supposed to be the default note there? Could this mean I'm about to hear back on a rejection or interview?
