2019-2020 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From stalking last year's thread, it seemed like you typically found out about roughly a month to month and a half after you interviewed. I.e. august to early/mid sept found out in mid October, late sept/ early to mid oct found out in mid November, late oct/early nov found out in mid December

Current M1 here!

Last year I interviewed mid-October and heard back just before Christmas. So it was about a 9-10 week wait for me which was torture! So if you don’t hear exactly 4-6 weeks after don’t worry. No news really is good news, post-II at least.

Also happy to answer any questions about DUCOM.

interviewed today - was super conversational and the students seemed to like the school (though many admit it's the only place they got in). They seem to not be worried about the Hahnemann closure but I'm still wary. The facilities are a bit dilapidated and the cadaver lab is cramped and smells gross probs cuz it's old.

this is their data from 2018:
Drexel988 IS apps390 IS II222 IS A98 IS mat10081 OOS apps822 OOS II495 OOS A158 OOS mat56.92% IS post-II A60.22% OOS post-II A
at the interview they gave us the data from 2019:
14,067 apps submitted (designated on AMCAS), 11,718 completed applications, 1,506 interviews, 811 accepted, 260 matriculants

Also, if you're parking there, there is ample street parking across the street that is free if you don't want to pay $10 to park in the guest lot!

edit: they also give you a t-shirt at the end of the day!
Hi LimeGuy, thanks for getting all the data in one place, it's been helpful and I've added to it. I noticed on the post-II document it shows drexel has over a 90% post-II acceptance rate, and I thought I read somewhere that they don't really interview for waitlists spots (essentially, an II is an A if you don't really mess it up). But obviously the data they gave you here is different. Do you believe this info they gave you with around a 60% post-II acceptance rate is correct?

Yeah the 90 % one is not true. On interview day they showed us the acceptance data from last cycle 2018-2019 and the acceptance rate was 60%.

Is it possible your understanding of the 90% number is conflating II's with interviews conducted?

Nah I have seen the 90 percent number before. It is posted on some Post-II acceptance rate document from reddit, however it is innacurate. The correct rate is around 60 percent.

I second this. It was something like 8xx out of 15xx. I remember thinking, "~60% of everyone at this table will be offered an A" and then I thought "we prob all just throught the same thought" :cat:

So is being on hold pretty much same as soft rejection?
Congratulations you are the 10000th person to ask this in this thread!! You have been hand selected out of thousands of applicants to receive this honorable distinction.

cut people a break. this process and any R/hold/silence can be unnerving.
Yes it is, but people dont realize posting on the thread here gives a notification to the 200+ people that watch this thread. It's highkey infuriating to see the same question asked 50x when you can literally look on the same page of the thread for the answer. This thread, NYMC, GW, and Tulane have that problem- people just immediately jump to the thread and ask "what does x status mean" after being placed on hold at some of the lowest yield schools in the nation.

"i WaNt To Be A dOcToR tO hElP pEoPle"
Omfg you paraphrased wikipedia for that one paper in high school how do you expect to study for the boards yourself?????????????????????????????????

I hate when people connect two unrelated things

From what I’ve read in previous years’ threads and reddit, some people really like to believe it’s a soft R, but a good chunk have also received interviews at a later time. I think a hold is... a hold. Neither good news or bad news. If the school didn’t like you at all, they’d outright reject you. If they loved you, you would’ve gotten an II. So take it for what it’s worth and spend more valuable time focusing on other schools until notified otherwise.
It seems like it's just...a hold. There are schools (UCSD) where a hold = soft R, though.

Edit: Chin up, hope for the best, prepare for the worst @taeyeonlover

There are SO many better ways to "help people" than go into healthcare and I die a little on the inside every time I talk to an applicant and thats on their "list of reasons"

You're delusional if you think that I'm becoming a doctor to help people. There are SO many better ways to "help people" than go into healthcare and I die a little on the inside every time I talk to an applicant and thats on their "list of reasons"

TL;DR

Unrelated to the whole feud which is brewing, but, why are you going into medicine then?

Should I write your personal statement for you while I'm at it? 😉

But real answer: I knew I wanted a challenging career that would exercise my brain, a job that wasn't just a 9 to 5 but something that is an integral part of who I am, a job that I could utilize my leadership skills, didn't want to just be behind a desk, make a lot of money, and wanted to be part of a long-standing institution.

Very nearly went the lawyer route because of all of the above but I fell in love with biology and anatomy more than poly sci and wanted a skill set that would be valuable in a zombie apocalypse.

I've already applied this cycle so the personal statement has long since been submitted. Just curious for your reasons. Good luck

Does anyone know when the first interview date was? I’m just trying to figure out if people who interviewed late september will hear back on the 15th or not

The school specific threads are a place to share information, not antagonism.
Please remember that tensions run high, so let's be our best selves.

My apologies for any antagonistic tone in my post. I’m just shocked/appalled that a physician in training would find it “delusional” that wanting to help others would be a primary reason for entering this field. I will refrain from further posts unless I have relevant info to share about this school. Sorry for the detail folks. I hope everyone has a great day 🙂

I'm sure someone has already mentioned this somewhere on this thread but pleaseee help a girl out, what is the interview style for this school? My II is scheduled for 10/31 and I cannot find this information on the portal or the confirmation email >.<

30-minute open-file interview with faculty, 30-minute typed essay (think CASPER), group "discussion" with a current student in which he or she evaluates you.

Anybody remember when they said they would release decisions for September interviewees?

I called yesterday and was told that they will be sending batches of admissions offers starting “the third week of October” and continue to do that once a month. They indicated it would not start in November like last year.
see above ^ @Talldoctor96 called

IIRC (I interviewed on 9/11), they said they meet every month and release decisions on a monthly basis, starting in mid-October!

EDIT: talldoc beat me to it!

Hey a second confirmation is great! Good to know they’ll be starting In October 🙂
