2019-2020 Duke

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
can anyone share when you heard from duke about confirming a student host before your interview?

@redroof current duke student here. students run the interview hosting committee and try to get back to applicants as soon as current students respond about availability. sometimes that means you wont hear back until a week before the interview date. if a local hotel will let you cancel if you book first but hear back about a student host, i would recommend doing that.

how did you all send thank yous post interview? Via the portal?
i recommend sending your post interview thank you via email to andrea liu or whoever was your primary contact. if youre applying pclt/mstp, send to those respective directors.

Does anyone want to comment on their interview experience? Fun day?

very relaxed and organized day! Not really any presentations about the program, though. It’s a half day for the interview and the other half is talking with students and the tour

awesome thank you! really appreciate your feedback

What would you guys recommend for wearing to the social the night prior to the interview?

Would jeans be ok? Thank you!!

Anyone MSTP who interviewed earlier know if they’re doing a December decision?

I had a question about sending an update letter.

I have two abstracts that are to be presented in the new year at an international conference. The email describing appropriate updates stipulated that the publications must be accepted.

This late in the game, I feel as if I don't have much to lose. So what the hell, full sendo?

Might as well, you have nothing to lose. I feel like at this point they're just sending cancellations. Could be wrong though.

Has anybody been able to send a LOI or are they not receptive to them? the previous conversation on this seemed inconclusive

What makes you say that (bold)?

Duke insiders of this thread—What are the chances they will announce decisions earlier than last year if they’re ending interviews Jan 16? The wait... it’s killing me!
The committee still has to meet after the final interview date. I’m guessing they’ll let us know in early to mid February.

Did you get a call or email? What were available dates? Thanks and congrats
thanks! I got a call last week and an email on Friday. dates were Jan 6, 9, 13, 16. Email says the last interview day is tentatively 1/23, so there might be a total of 6 left

Okay thanks how many spots are left each day?
I dont think I have any way of knowing unfortunately, but Dr. Yee called me. You might be able to call the admissions office directly to get a better sense of how many spots are left

Does the status that says “your app is now being reviewed by a set of independent screeners” change after you’ve had one screen? Two screens?

I dont think it changes until the end of the year when it says, "Thanks for your money, we dont want to interview you because you're not as awesome as we are"

Is there a way to send an update/letter of interest more than a week past interview? and would that be recommended? Thanks!

Any MSTP applicants hear back yet post-interview or know when we can expect to hear back??

I am hoping to send in a LOI. However, I interviewed more than 10 days ago so I cannot upload it to the portal.

Would it be fine if I email it to admissions? Did they tell us not to do this and I possibly missed hearing it?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I emailed and asked this question and they told me they don't accept updates after the time specified on the portal 🙁
