2019-2020 Duke

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Now we need to determine what ranges they constitute as early versus mid versus late. Hmmm...

apparently dukes last interview date was jan 23. anyone know if i should even bother sending an update letter? or do i still somehow have a chance

Are we expecting MSTP decisions to come out a week prior to MD decisions as per years past? So possibly next week?

I don't know if I even believe that Duke will release for regular MD in 2 weeks. I know that's what the admissions office said but last year it was February 21. I really hope there are no delays or anything and they're right about the week of Valentine's Day!

They said last year was severely delayed due to weather.. I'm still a 2/14/2020 believer <3

did they saying if they were releasing the decisions all at once vs trickling out?

From last years thread it looked like they made calls to the accepted applicants, then everyone not called got the WL email a few days later

Will they announce merit aid that day as well?

I have no clue! I just browsed the thread last year and a bunch of people posted about getting the call, but I didn’t see much about merit aid. I actually didn’t know that Duke had merit aid! Did you see that somewhere?

edit:

just found this on their website, it seems like April is when packages are awarded.

Hi All, 4th year medical student at Duke here. I have one last rotation before Match and I thought I'd reach out to see if any of you have questions about my experience at Duke.

Wishing everyone luck this application cycle!

Anyone who interviewed look at their app lately? Did the piece you wrote on interview day go blank? I remember mine was there at one point, but then it went blank.

I don’t want to feed the conspiracy flames, but mine is still there and I just checked right now. Interviewed mid-September.

Interviewed in Oct. Mine is not there. From last years thread, there seems to be on user who mentioned that they were still able to go back and read comments on their MMI approx. 4 days before decisions were released. This user was subsequently rejected. Sorry to feed the nuerotiscim!

You know this process is wearing on your mental fabric, when something so insanely obscure and clearly devoid of any conclusive offering, somehow gives you some ease.

Cycle, please finish, so I can be sane again.

Last year nobody said it disappeared, though. There was just that one user who said they looked at it and noticed they had grammatical errors.

Correct. Thats all we have to go on unless someone wants to dig through previous years threads and see if this has happened before

Mine is gone. Does that mean I am in?

no but seriously tho

It would make sense for them to take away your responses. They may want to preserve secrecy of their prompts either because they want to reuse the prompt or they don't want to give the general "feel" of the prompt for future applicants to practice from (You can compare it to AAMC releasing another FL that is very similar to the actual exam, it leaves more openings for applicants to practice, but on a smaller scale). In addition, I'm also assuming they used PROFIT for MMI, which might mean the question is "intellectual" material belonging to the company. Maybe the took away the good responses because they don't want you to be using it to coach future applicants or sell it to BeMo or whatever.

Now, as usual, I think it is a computer error or some spaghetti code issue. 1) One possibility is that it is completely random, the computer program just glitched the heck out and randomly chose. 2) It is a binary indicator. Accepted = absence of your text, vice versa for rejection. 3) Maybe your response reached above/below a certain score, but does not tell you whether or not you will be accepted. 4) Someone commented on your writing, which made the programming glitch. 5) You passed or failed some screen along the way, but not 100% an acceptance.

I think depending on when the text disppeared/appeared can give a hint regarding what it means. If it literally happened today, which is pretty close to the admissions release, then it could be more indicative of a final decision. If people's disappearance/appearance happened individually or in waves, it could just mean your app was reviewed and/or reached above a certain score.

Tbh I'm happy people are embracing trying to find out what these things mean. Compared to the beginning of the cycle people would be like STOP INVESTIGATING, YOU'RE JUST NEUROTIC AF, LET IT BE, ADMISSIONS PROCESS TAKE THE WHEEL. Tbh imo we should totally test these theories. If the process insists on being as vague and non-transparent as possible, it'd only be natural for humans to try to find out whatever information they can from it. Imagine a world where someone wants to systematically investigate a phenomenon, but their peers be like YO STOP YOU'RE BEING NEUROTIC, JUST. TRUST. THE. PROCESS.

Int in sept, essay is not there (but, it also was not there the day after my interview, either. My friend who interviewed in earlier sept had hers stay there for a few weeks and then disappear)

OOoOOo-000oOoo0ooo

Mine is gone, late October interview. Can't remember if it was gone after the interview or not, but it isn't there now
