2019-2020 Hofstra

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What are the dates available?
I remember a date in November before Thanksgiving and 3 in December. Didn't go up to February (probably not scheduled yet) but January had plenty of openings, I think about 6-8 open dates!

I also got an II yesterday. Was complete here a bit late, on 9/23. When I signed up, the earliest they had was Dec 11 and I think Dec 19.

Does Hofstra give a decent amount of merit scholarships?
Just had my interview here yesterday.

Financial aid did a presentation showing that the median scholarship is over half tuition, and med students at lunch told me that they received full scholarships by simply asking/holding onto their acceptance.

Maybe it's just because it was my first interview, but I had a truly wonderful experience at Hofstra. Everything about how they do things there is intuitive, effective, and off the beaten path. Really hoping on the A

This was my first interview and could not agree more. Hofstra might be new(ish), but they seem to really handle everything the right way.

A friend of mine just graduated from Hofstra and is now in the middle of a very competitive residency... she has nothing but good things to say about her time there. Meanwhile I’m still hoping to receive an interview.

Does anyone know if Hofstra values post-II communication (like LOI)? Or is there not much to do except wait?

Idk about LOI but I know that the day of the interview they said that thank-you notes are reaaallly unnecessary.
I sent one final update post interview. LOI is jumping the gun I think seeing as they haven't released any acceptances or waitlist yet.

Don't bother with a thank you note. It was MMI. They don't remember you.

Mine was a long ass time ago so someone please correct me if anything is wrong.

If I rememember right, it goes something along the lines of

-Breakfast
-Intro Presentation
-Group A MMI / Group B PBL example + ultrasound
-Switch
-Lunch w/ Med students
-Tour of the school
-Quick Debrief and then dismissal

I dont remember the time of the MMI (I think it was wither at 10 or 11:30 depending on the group you were in) but it was before lunch.

And a couple of more presentations about curriculum, initiatives, diversity, financial aid sprinkled in there

II this morning! OOS. Complete 8/5. Does this school offer student hosts? Can’t seem to find anything that suggests they do
According to an earlier reply in this thread, they do but it's pretty limited so they don't advertise it. It probably wouldn't hurt to just ask the admissions office if they can help you with that.

I’m going to be in Hempstead from Dec. 6th to Dec. 10th for my Dec. 9th interview. What are some things to do/explore around the area? @ current students or people that have already interviewed
Would also love to hang out with other interviewees or locals so PM me if you’re down for that!

R, complete July 4

Anyone know if there are any acting MMI scenarios?

Almost every school will have a few super high stats people. Hofstra's 90th percentile is a 523 MCAT, for example.

Yeah the MCAT is super high for accepted students, but the 90th %ile is a bit lower for matriculated students at 521. Makes me wonder if they just accept most of their applicants with high MCAT scores, and hope some of them attend. Their gpa is far more sane.

Median MCAT 516
Median GPA 3.78

That translates about 73 at best for a median. Hofstra might be a good school but talking to people who are mostly at 77+ makes not much sense since they are ranked 72. Are they giving lots of money to people with 80+ to attend?
