2019-2020 Iowa (Carver)

How long did it take for people's payment to be shown as complete in the portal? I know it says it can take up to 5 days but I'm not a fan of inputting my credit card info and getting no confirmation of payment lol

Are people listing any clinic experiences when the prompt asks for medically-related experiences? I feel like there's a subtle difference between the two, and I don't know what they're looking for.

I would include any shadowing, clinical volunteering, or employment. What is the item you are unsure of including?

With how slow secondaries are coming out, do y'all think it would be too late to add Iowa as MD/PhD if I'm already verified?

Submitted 7/27!

Edit: complete 7/30

My status still says incomplete even though I submitted everything a week ago. Should I give them a call?

I have a lot of experience working with grieving kids, researching with maltreated kids, and volunteering for a suicide hotline. I feel comfortable calling these clinical experiences, but don't really know if they're "medically related" ??

I guess I am not sure about the specifics of the activities you listed, but from what you said, they don't sound medical to me. The beauty of an essay prompt is that you can interpret it however you want and if you feel these are clinical, then you can explain them as such. Perhaps if you listed them on AMCAS as clinical, then they would fit here. Also, Iowa has really friendly admission staff and you can always ask them a quick question (anonymously if preferred!) by phone.

IS; Primary verified 7/02; Secondary Received 7/26; Complete Email 7/31.

For future CCoM applicants: Iowa takes a bit longer to send out secondaries. From their website and from emailing their adcom, they have a small screen (3.0gpa/500). After screening, they send out secondaries slowly in early/mid-July. Most should have it by beginning of Aug at the latest.

I am an IS applicant and still don't have a secondary (definitely passed their screen of 3.0GPA/500 MCAT). Iowa is my number 1 school choice and this is so frustrating 🙁

I was listening to the podcast someone had linked on here. The lady in admissions said that IS applicants automatically receive an interview with 3.2 and 505 mcat. Your IS and I assume you at least have those stats, so I wouldn’t worry about it at all. It’s just a waiting game at this point.

When did you submit your primary? Also, they algorithm for when they send out the secondary can factor in ECs such as clinical experience, etc, so it’s not always predictable when you get it. If you’re above 3.0/500 you will get it, and I’d imagine soon.

Thank you Davidfromcali, I knew that but honestly forgot in all the chaos. I have also received every other secondary which is why I was worried but you are right and I just need to breathe.

For reference I submitted my app on July 2nd

For those complete, how long did it take to process the payment and LORs after submitting?

That's a really easy screen to get past...I think it has to be more complicated than that perhaps. Maybe they glance over the primary.
