2019-2020 Iowa (Carver)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II received, OOS. Complete around 7/18. Really excited about this school (also shoutout to the short coat podcasters if you guys lurk on here)

Is it too late to add Carver given their delay in sending secondaries out?

As long as you are complete by Labor day then you are good.

I listened to a webinar with the Iowa admission committee and they encouraged sending in your application even if it’s getting later in the cycle. If you prewrite the secondary and submit it soon after receiving it, they’ll likely consider you.

I dont know. I had a phone appt with them prior to this cycle about my app (had an interview last cycle) and they recommended that I apply early this time. They emphasized that that was one of the reasons why I was unsuccessful. I applied and completed on the last week of September last cycle. Just food for thought. Im sure if you have a strong app or IS, you might be successful than I did last year even if you were to be completed after labor day

That’s a good point. I’m sure it varies person to person.

Hey all, almost done with this secondary but quick question - for "medically related activities," did you all include medically related research? For example, I have multiple research experiences dealing with cancer, and one of those experiences was actually next to a hospital (where clinical trials were held, not for our project though).
I wouldn't put that experience down as medically related. If you worked on a clinical study that worked with patients, then maybe.

Ah a little too late. This was my last secondary and I burned out hard, so I just put it down anyways lol but I emphasized the "medical relation" it had. We'll see if it results in anything. Thanks anyways!
I'm sure it'll be fine, I wouldn't worry about it!

Anyone interviewing 9/6 want to meet up for dinner the night before? Might help relax us knowing somebody at the interview

Do they review apps in chronological order? Complete earlish July

Nope, certain apps are pushed forward for review via some other classification priorities (IS, UG at UIowa, URM, ECs, SES, etc.). I know this based on the previous threads, attending the Q&A with the Carver adcom, and from talking to MS4's I knew from my hometown that are apart of the admissions process.

Can’t you just email them and ask? I’m gonna try that in a week or 2; I had the same issue with Albany and they just emailed me a secondary when I asked
Got a rejection email just after I went for a work trip and decided I loved Iowa City, lol. Apparently they have a 3.0 cutoff for sGPA and cGPA—don’t know how I didn’t see that before I submitted.

Anybody know the post-interview acceptance rate at Carver? Especially for OOS?

Also does anyone know how long after an interview do you have to wait for a decision?

It depends. I've heard of people being accepted in as little as 3 weeks, I also know of people who interviewed in September and didn't hear back until March. They do rolling admissions until January and then if you haven't heard back by then they place you into a "final pool" where they tell you in March whether you are accepted, waitlisted, or flat out rejected.

Oh my gosh. The final pool is painful.

Where did you get these numbers from?
Someone on reddit posted a spreadsheet that had the number of applicants/interviews/acceptances/matriculants but I don't know what their sources were.
