2019-2020 Liberty University (LUCOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Dammit I interviewed last Friday and I really wanted to hear back today. Since it took you a week and 4 days if I get the call it’ll be like Tuesday or something

For all the class of 2024 hopefuls: we just got out for Fall Break. I have no idea if the committee is meeting next week or if they are off too. Just trying to head off some pre-Med paranoia if you don’t have any communication next week!

Dr. Patton told us that they’d have a decision by today hopefully, next Friday likely, and by next next Friday for a fact. I’m just hoping the decisions in today haha

This may have been asked before but what does PV Pending Interview mean on my Applicant Status page? I want to be hopeful that this means an interview but I haven’t heard yet and want to be sure!

Yes it means they will interview you. Be patient. The II will come soon

CAN anyone comment on the research opportunities at LUCOM? How easy/likely is it to get involved in research? Are there a lot of students doing research or is it just a limited number of students?

Does anyone know how many people from the waitlist end up getting accepted? When do they start taking people off of the waitlist and giving acceptances?

Browsing past years, supposedly, 90% received acceptances (or from last year, 70 out of 80 individuals received acceptances). If you interviewed before December, you will most likely see movement in January (since deposits are due on December 14).

For those who have interviewed recently, what kind of questions did they ask you? Did they probe you on current/ethical issues within medicine, or was it more just "why DO"? Any tips for prepping for the interview would also be extremely helpful as well! Thanks in advance!

My interviewers made it very conversational and it was more like one topic led to another. I did get the introduce yourself, why medicine and why this school questions but each of my answers opened the discussion about something else which was a nice and relaxing way to tell them more about myself. It’s an open file interview with 2 faculties and they seemed to have carefully reviewed my application. One of them brought up something he liked on my application and we started discussing it with no straight question to direct the conversation. So be prepared to discuss your activities, what you liked about them and how they impacted you. The only question that could have caught me off guard was an ethical one (it wasn’t connected to any current topic or anything), but someone who interviewed before me warned me so...
PS: be on time and most importantly dress up! Nothing short of business professional. There are only 9 people interviewing, all sitting around a table with the school representatives. You will be the center of attention so you want to look your best

Thank you so much for your response! It is extremely helpful! Just to clarify, what kind of ethical question did they ask you? Also, I'm not sure if I'm understanding this correctly, but are you saying that the interview will also be conducted around the other interviewees (as in it is not just you and the 2 faculty members in the room)?

The interviews will be just you and 2 interviewers, but you’ll spend all day with your interview group and some school representatives doing other things. You get more personal attention that way, but if the rest of your group is in suits and you’re not, you’ll be uncomfortable.

Guys! I submitted my secondary august 22, and they said they would get back about II news in 30 days... like is this normal? Should I call them... Im legit worried now. 🙁

I would call at this point and inquire about the status of your application. Glitches happen sometimes, and if you don’t meet some cut off they’ll tell you that too.

This happened to me too. I just emailed and asked if they received all of my letters and everything, and then I was given an II a few days later!

Did they tell you specifically they'd give you II feedback within 30 days? My email response let me know I would be "notified about my application status in a timely manner, usually within 30 business days", but this is not the same as an II update. I messaged them and they had let me know that my documents were received which I can check the status of on the website. The 30 day status update was to let us know whether all required documentation was received and that we were in a "complete" status.

Are classes mandatory in this school? Do they have exams every week?

Are classes mandatory in this school? Do they have exams every week?

Some classes are mandatory (OMM, PCM, labs, ethics), but the rest are not. So far for 1st year:

1st block (BFOM): exams every Monday for the first two weeks, then every two weeks after that. 2nd block (IMSK): exams/practical every two weeks. 3rd block (CVRH): exams every 7-10 days.

For PCM, there are 2 standardized patient encounters, a physical exam assessment, and a final. For OMM there’s a midterm, final and practical. For ethics just a midterm and practical.

Sorry if I keep spamming you all with my incessant questions. I just want to make sure I am 100% prepared for this interview, if you get my neurotic drift :nailbiting: If you are religious at all, did you incorporate a religious slant into your answers? I am Christian, so I'm trying to gauge how much I should include that within my responses, especially for ethical questions. My interview is coming up, so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, fam!!

I’m a devout Christian and my interview literally just turned into my interviewers and I talking about faith the whole time. I actually incorporated it into every answer and they accepted me so I’d say let them know what you believe!

Go for it, but I wouldn’t recommend focusing solely on religion. Incorporate it into why you want to be a physician!

edit: i have been proven wrong. Just be yourself

With that said though, they’re definitely not a school that’ll force their beliefs on you. But they will stand for what they believe in which I highly respect.

Wow, that's actually amazing! I didn't think they would want to talk about faith the whole time so I was initially aiming to sprinkle it in there, but I could talk forever about my faith if I have to! It practically shaped me into I am and why I want to pursue medicine, so I find it as a plus to discuss it. Thank you so much for this, and congrats on your acceptance!! I hope one day soon I can be counted with you as an acceptee :joyful:

Of course, I didn't expect them to force their beliefs on me. I respect that aspect of their mission as well.

Thank you for your input!! Now I know what to expect a bit, so I think I can prepare myself accordingly. 🙂

LUCOM is unashamedly Christian...if your faith is part of everything you do, you’ll be accepted and loved here. If you speak about it at your interview, and you’re genuine and not just “putting on a show” for the Christian Med school, you’ll be fine.

For anyone else reading this, if religion plays a small role or zero role in your life, just be yourself in your interview. We have students of all faiths, and we all get along fine and respect one another’s beliefs.

Does anyone know what "Provisional Status" means pre-II? Has the application been under committee review?

Finally was able to figure out how to get to my admissions status page. I also have the "Provisional Status" too. For me, it looks like the school has not processed/looked at my letters of recommendation or CASPer scores yet because there aren't dates of completion next to those even though they have marked having received my MCAT scores and pre-reqs in. (I've had my letters in from AACOMAS over a month ago). I called LUCOM and left a message about the discrepancies because I did get a completion email from them on 9/5.

How do you get to this page? Ive been looking forever?

Just got the call 🙂🙂🙂. I didn’t think much about this school until I went there and interviewed, but it’s now on top of my list. They have a very strong curriculum and genuinely want to offer the best to their students. It definitely is a nurturing environment And I encourage anyone to strongly consider this school.

Curious, are you a believer yourself?
Are you looking at also MD schools?

The school is so great on values that it contends with MD.

Yes I am a believer, Christian but not really practicing. Honestly if you’re Buddhist and you want to pray for me before an exam, I’ll gladly receive those prayers.... I did apply to a few MDs, but mainly DO
