2019-2020 Oklahoma

I think 4/30 is when it BECOMES AVAILABLE. I don’t think you have to commit by 4/30 and if you don’t something bad happens.
So in essence you guys don’t actually have a deadline but rather the standard “plan to enroll“ date?

I was inferring a bit from an email we received today from Dotty. She didn’t explicitly state a deadline but it seems like they want us to CTE on 4/30

Ok. Who's with me ?!

Accepted today, too! It’s strange because I’ve daydreamed of this moment for so long. I though I was going to experience this intense catharsis and shout and jump for joy but instead I hopped out of the shower this morning, looked at my phone and read the push notification. I was surprisingly underwhelmed and still feel underwhelmed.
But I do feel content that all my hard work so far has earned me this opportunity.

That’s a totally normal reaction. Congrats!!

Is anyone applying for the NHSC scholarship? I've been trying to get the Verification of Good Standing form filled out and can't get an answer from anyone.

Aug 18th. PM your email so I can forward you some PDFs about the calendar and curriculum breakdown ,if you want.

Can you send it to me as well? Now it feels kind of awkward because I’m just chilling until August. I don’t really know what to expect or how this is all going to go down. You spend six years as a premed and suddenly that part of your life is wrapped up and now you’re staring into the unknown.

I wouldn’t stress about it too soon. I genuinely didn’t even look at a calendar or PDF or anything til about a week before classes and I was just fine lol. Enjoy your break before classes begin!

Is there a limit to how many people we are allowed to have at the white coat ceremony?

I’m having an issue as I’m looking over all the prerequisite requirements to be sure I’m ok for matriculation. I have everything completed except for one of cell biology/genetics/molecular biology. I tried to look for those at a local CC (All I can afford) but they don’t offer those. In how much trouble am I?

I’ve looked to see if OU/OSU/Northeastern we’re offering any of those for summer term. They aren’t. I know I messed this up but I’m trying my damndest to rectify this horrid situation so if anyone knows where I can go/apply to take one of those classes it’d be greatly appreciated!

I looked on classnav and OU does show a genetics course woth Wendy Martin(she’s great) and cell bio with Padash-Barmchi. Cell bio still has seats. You can probably email Martin and get in.

Oklahoma City Community College is offering a genetics course too. If you did this one, you should email Dotty to see if it counts

Does anyone know if the COM requires matriculants to take the TOEFL even if they graduated from a college in the US?? (I am an immigrant)

it popped up on my SS to-do list, and I am not sure if it is an error or if I should be preparing to take it.

Thank you guys!

Also, if I accepted my application for OU-OKC does that hold my spot at OKC for sure? Or is there a possibility it is actually full?

Did any other waitlisted people get this email?
I'm already accepted but my friend is on the waitlist for OKC and got the same email. I get the sense that the Tulsa track is either not currently full or has a very short waitlist and they're offering people who only applied OKC track the chance to apply to Tulsa.

Any idea on when we’ll get actual news/information about the school year?

Hey guys, MS1 at OU here. Happy to answer any questions you have about the school or the process. An MS1 (now an MS2) did the same during my application season and they answered some of my burning questions. Good luck!
Thank you for offering to help aspiring applicants. What are some of key the experiences, training that OU looks for in it's applicants?.

Hey there, I am a rising MS2 at OU so I can help with your question. OU is usually looking for your typical experiences that most med schools are looking for. Things like helping the less fortunate (food bank volunteering, homeless shelter volunteering, etc.) are always a plus to have on your OU app. Other experiences that OU will expect you to have is healthcare experiences. So having plenty of medical volunteering hours, like hospital or free clinic volunteering, as well as plenty of shadowing are essentially required at this point in order to have a solid shot at getting into OU, or really any med school for that matter. If you are actually in the OU area I would highly recommend getting plugged in with volunteering at the OU hospital or at one of the many free clinics that OU is associated with throughout OKC. They are some solid ways to meet OU doctors and potentially build connections to help get you into OU. But if you aren't in OKC or Tulsa (if you are trying to get into SCM) then just any clinic volunteering will suffice.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "training"? A few of my classmates were EMTs or medics prior to medical school and used that as a way to help get some clinical experiences, but there are only about 15 or so of those in my class of 165, so they were definitely a minority. Their isn't any specific training that I can think of to help make you stand out to OU. If you are trying to receive training to help with a medical school app then I would just suggest getting on the job training by helping out with a local clinic like I mentioned earlier.

Hope this helps and feel free to ask anymore questions that you might have!
