For the institutional action question: 'Please explain in detail providing evidence of disposition. (Limit 250 Words)"....

What does this mean? I looked up the definition of "disposition" and it still isn't clicking for me. Any help would be appreciated!

The one that pops up in google is not very good i agree. I think this one is more suitable Disposition - FindLaw
 
I guess it wants me to upload documentation? That's how I interpret it.
 
Anyone know what the interview is like? Like what kinds of questions they ask, etc.? thanks!

I've been told it's more of a recommendation. Obviously not a hard deadline (I myself submitted a few days after), but probably something that would affect your application and/or interview

I'm applying here this cycle. Quick question- for the word counts for the essays, those are " maxes" right? Like if I summarize my gap year plans in 70 words that's not too short. I know it's silly but I am picky.

When they mention an outside of your comfort zone experience ( the last secondary prompt) can I talk about taking a computer science course outside of my comfort zone? I was a bio major, took Computing I , and converted to Bioinformatics. Is it okay to talk about an academic experience outside of my comfort zone?

And area of medicine means specialty, right? Not like rural or urban or something?

Also, just confirming. When you submit verified AMCAS primary to your programs of choice, you can add letters after resubmitting, right? I always thought that was the case but rn I'm feeling randomly tense about, and the site is down so I can't check.

Whatever word count you need to get your point across. I think all of mine were at least 130 words (except the 100 word one). Granted, I am not in school, so I wrote a bit more for my activities.

They are relatively generic phrasings so you can take whatever path you want to answer questions. I chose to go with an outside my social comfort zone talking with some homeless folks, and then tied it back into one of my ECs. Everyone has a different life path, and your experiences will be different than anyone else's, so you have to decide if it works.

I briefly mentioned specialty but stated I am waiting for clerkships before choosing a path. I also mentioned how I want to go into academic medicine. I think, depending on how you phrase it, that mentioning rural medicine could work - urban may turn them off.

Thanks. For the Computing class, I did only earn a B, so I'm weighing if it's worth talking about....I can talk about volunteering at the senior care center, but that became one of my most important activities so I don't know if I wanna start with it being outside of my comfy zone.
I wanted to mention specialty, I don't want to mention rural vs urban lol I just wanted to make sure that's not what the prompt wanted.
Does Netter pre screen? I got my secondary in like a few hours- or is it just that min GPA/MCAT screen?

If it was outside your comfort zone, you werent a computer and coding whiz to begin with. You wanted to diversify your knowledge base and experience something new. I dont think a grade reflects anything of importance in this situation.

For what it's worth, I mentioned an interest in practicing in an urban area and I received an II.
 
Does Quinnipiac tend to send out mostly OOS interviews before IS? I know some schools like Michigan trend this way.

Because Quinnipiac is a private institution, I doubt that they would operate like that. We might just be seeing more OOS IIs right now because CT is a relatively small state and according to this table, CT residents only make up 5% of Netter applicants.

People who went to quarter schools: when entering pre-reqs, did you only put in 1 or 2, or did you put in more? At my school, I needed to take 3 bio classes + a separate lab class to fulfill the 1 year general bio + lab course. Should I put in all of the courses? Thank you!

I only put what it asked for (1-2 courses) even though my school required the same as yours. I think just putting what it asks for is fine!
 
I have an interview coming up at Netter but I am abit apprehensive as an URM. Can any current students speak to the diversity and culture of the school as a whole? As well as the location? I heard it described as the Greater New York Area but it's in a small town in Connecticut. Are there things to do around the area? Do the students get out to the city much, if so which cities? I just don't know much about the area but the school seems really good, supportive, and inclusive on paper that's why I applied just would like to know if that's real if any current students who are also URM can speak to this I would appreciate it as well!
 
Interviewing on 9/3 if anyone wants to either split for an AirBnB for 9/2 and/or explore town with me!

When most people think of CT, they think of the affluent primarily white NYC suburbs of Greenwich/Stamford, and that's absolutely not reflective of CT as a whole, Hartford and New Haven for example aren't like that at all.

Netter is in North Haven, NYC area is a bit disingenuous as it's a 2 hour train ride via Metro North from New Haven to Grand Central, so while NYC is available, it's not like you can just head over there on a whim (unless you've got a lot of free time). New Haven's probably the closest real city, 10-15 minutes away by car.

Current students would probably be more helpful with regard to specifics, just wanted to make sure you weren't anchored too hard to an image of CT that's not reflective of reality!

I never claimed to be anchored on any image of Connecticut. I just wanted someone who actually attends the school to speak on it being a truly diverse, inclusive, and vibrant environment/community.

I'm a graduate student at QU. My school is located on the same campus (well, in the same building actually) as Netter and I have taken classes at Netter. Don't know how much weight my opinion has, but I would be more than happy to discuss QU with you!

Hi everyone,
I'm almost done with my secondaries, and am currently on draft 2 of my Netter secondary before copy and pasting and submitting before labor day.

Would anybody be willing to give it a look? I just want a third pair of eyes over it to make it sure it reads well and answers the questions.

Didn’t get to explore much of the surrounding area and New Haven but everyone at QU was friendly and receptive!

It was a small group and they memorize everyones application so they make everyone feel right at home and as if they know you.

They also have a lot of really interesting programs in terms of mentorship.

I wouldn’t stress about the interviews it was very conversational for the most part, although I did get the one interviewer that asked basically all “interview style” questions rather than conversation like most others but it was still a friendly experience.

The surrounding area is nice- plenty of things you would need ( grocery, pharmacy, places to eat), as well as a few good, safe suburban apartments that are not as expensive as urban apartments. I went on a trip to explore the area, even before applying.
How many II would you say have been sent out? I'm having some last-minute, unpredictable issues with my committee letter and IDT I can be complete before mid Sept. Would that be fatal, in your opinion? I have my secondary in and all that, just waiting on the letter.

I wouldn’t worry; I think they mentioned their first batch of IIs was 1 week ago and that these are really early; the cycle still has a long time to go.
 
I was just checking all my portals since I hadn't in a while and I noticed that my Quinnipiac one said that my letters of rec were all received 8/26/19 when I submitted and was complete on 7/29/19?? I'm wondering if anyone else had an experience like this or if you think this might cause a delay in my application? this is so strange because I submitted my letters through the AMCAS service the same as all other schools I applied to. not sure if this is a standard timeline for Quinnipiac or what
 
Curious to know if anyone else here is interviewing 9/30.

Have you added additional schools/resubmitted amcas since then? On some portals this seems to cause the LOR date to update to the date of resubmission. I don’t believe it will delay your application in anyway.

Did you use Interfolio? I received an email from AMCAS, a month after I submitted my primary that stated all my letters had been resubmitted, despite portals showing they received LORs on the original date. This updated all my portals to the 'new' date of submission. No clue how this will affect things, as I haven't heard from any schools since it occurred.

oh that's really weird, I did add some schools and I also used interfolio. I hope that doesn't delay anything but im assuming (hoping) they've had my materials on file then since my first submission. not sure if it would be worth calling the schools to make sure though. thank you guys!

Probably unfounded anxiety, but my courses were by name, not number, on my transcript - in that section I just put name! Also, I wonder if they require letters from the school if my English requirement was fulfilled by a writing-intensive seminar.

I think if the school counts it as a writing course for graduation reqs, then it is accepted as a writing fulfillment for most medical schools

Not trying to be a troll, but Asian and URM are quiet the opposite, as Asians are the most ORM in med school. I take it you mean that your background is being from a less represented asian population/country such as The Philippines, Thailand, etc, but I believe that as far as URM status, you won't be identified in this way, but someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

I don’t know how generalities go but as far as anyone who knows about Asian populations in America (which I assume at least some if not most Adcoms would), they would know that certain Asian American populations fare worse, comparable to URM status, than other such as Chinese or Korean American. Again, maybe it doesn’t matter because a lot of time Asians do get lumped together but I think this has been recognized so I imagine we’re in at least the middle phase where processes such as this application process will inquire further than just “Asian”.

You would think so, and I'd hope so, but I don't really think that's the case by the things I've seen from adcoms and such on SDN. One could surely use their asian-minority identity in their diversity essay and such and maybe form a compelling story, but at the end of the day I don't think they will get a "boost" comparable to African American and latino applicants. Again, I could be wrong, but that's what I've gathered from other threads here (I've wondered because this applies to me as well).

See this definition of URM supposedly by the AAMC. Btw, URM does not by default indicate any hardships that are associated with being a minority in the US as we generally think, but instead it strictly means that that population is underrepresented in medicine. Thus, even if say Filipino-Americans generally are disadvantaged as a minority population in America, they are considered Asian (by US Census standards anyways) and thus are overrepresented in medicine (ORM).

I forget if it was Goro or gyngyn but one of them said schools determine who is URM.

Also one thing I remember from one school — I forget which one, I think Netter? — is that they asked what kind of Asian the applicant is and the options included Vietnamese, Hmong, and so on (korean/Chinese/japanese weren’t part of the list). So technically you can be Asian and URM at the same time? I am not perfectly sure about this
