2019-2020 Rush

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Checked today and I've gotten my financial aid package! It wasn't an email or notification, I just checked the student portal
Do you mind me asking where you found this in the portal? I'm assuming it shows up in the financial aid tab under the university resources part of the menu but just want to make sure I'm not missing something

I just got an email saying that i need to complete Projected enrollment form. Anyone else hear this? The projected enrollment form says right on it that only students obtaining other degrees (not MD) have to submit that form. Also that form requires a Student ID, which I don't have. Sent an email to financial aid office, but was wondering if anyone else ran into this.
I was just about to post this same question...I haven't gotten a Student ID or Rush email either, both of which are asked for!

Never got an email from them regarding the form, but it came up in a callI had with their Fin Aid office back then. Long story short, we don't have to complete it

all right thanks for clearing this up. It had me pretty confused. I sent a nice email asking them about it. I'll update the thread if I hear anything different from what you told me.

Got an email that second look has been cancelled. They said they'll provide the materials that would have been presented at second look and are thinking of other alternatives.

Edit: Realized this has already been posted, sorry for the double post!

nooooo 🙁 do you think they will reschedule it for another date or just completely cancel it? I was looking forward to meeting future classmates

They said they’re looking for alternative format so I’m guessing some sort of online/virtual experience instead of in person

Has anyone received any merit scholarship yet? Is anyone applying to outside scholarships?

I only got need based and currently applying to outside scholarships. Sadly it looks like many deadlines have already passed haha

is it too late to apply for scholarships? Just recently got access to my portal and I’m a little lost on the timing

I think there is no app for institutional scholarships. I was referring to private scholarships, seems like many of those are already closed.

Waitlist. 2/26 interview. OOS, but spent ~30 years in Illinois and was looking to get back. LM 70-72. Veteran. Complete early August I believe.

ACCEPTED JUST NOW!!! Interviewed on the last interview day 😀 Got an email! Wow, I think Imma pick this school over my other A...the other school may have been "higher ranked", but Rush def had a magical vibe that we all know about.

To everyone on WL or whatever, heads up, its still 70% acceptance by the end, the odds are very much in your favor 🙂 The April movements are gonna be huge and WL's are gonna move like crazy.

Wait so are y’all looking at the AMP portal or another portal that we can access from the Rush email/info we got?

You can just google "rush portal" and log in using your rush email and password. Then go to financial aid information to see everything.

How soon after you got your acceptance did you find out what your rush email was?? I still haven't gotten any word on that...

Ok, I was accepted just a few weeks ago so hopefully they haven't forgotten about me and I'll get it shortly!! Thanks!
Honestly I think they are just making their way down the list as people get accepted and review their FAFSA info but they did say if you haven't gotten anything by like March 15 then give them a call or send them an email.

Any ideas when they will start letting us lowly peasants on the waitlist know anything?
I would guess there’s gonna be movement starting mid April as people start dropping acceptances! Wishing everyone on WL good luck!! If you have any updates, I think now would be the time to send them and maybe even include some reasons why you think you fit their mission, etc.

Sending positive vibes! :luck:

Hey, does anyone have any experience with using a medical school application counseling service? I was hoping to get some help with the reapplication process, but as most of them are crazy expensive, was wondering if anyone found it really helpful and would recommend it.

Not worth it.

1) redo your school list. The more schools you apply to the better. I got an interview at the school I considered my most reach on my list. You never know. Use msar in a very detailed manner.

2) reach out to every school that you applied to. See if any will give feedback. I had my Virginia state schools say yes, Loyola, a few D.O. schools, NYMC gave me some advice. At two of my state schools I got feedback from the dean of admissions. At one I chose to go in person, the dean sat for 45 minutes and read through my new primary giving me handwritten feedback. And him telling me exactly what the committee looks for. That’s some good ****.

3) rewrite everything. Rewrite your personal statement. You can keep stories but make sure you have a strong story, have a detailed reflection, and a clear reason why you want to be a doctor. Having a target population you want to help that you’ve Identified in your interests and activities can be a good way to round it out.

4) get new / updated letters of rec. i got rid of two, had two much better ones added from new mentors/ experiences during my gap year. I also had many of my old letter writers rewrite the date and add a sentence or two. My pre health committee letter was updated by my school.

5) rewrite all of your activities. This is a huge chance for you to redefine who you are as an applicant. 1st it’s March. You have until June 1st to add new activities. I was able to volunteer more, get a different job, and just add in 2 or 3 more activities to my list of 15. I regrouped things like grouping all my shadowing together. I grouped my non clinical volunteering together and had a little blurb. I changed which 3 activities were my most meaningful and I rewrote all of them. Obviously you can keep some from the last app but change it up enough, reflect more and find a new purpose. Some of the feedback that i got was to add in 1 or 2 hobbies. I got that at every school. You can waste one activity on hobbies, schools loved to know I coached sports and cooked.

6) identify the schools that repeat their secondary so that you can prewrite them. You can even ****ing start now it’s never too early. For me once MAY 1st came around I was in full reapp mode. Flipped a switch that night. So rewrite your personal statement. Rewrite your activities and have your primary done by June 1. Most secondaries come out mid July. A few come early July even late June. I prioritized the schools I had gotten interviews at my first unsuccessful cycle and the rest of my Virginia state schools. From there I targeted schools with longer secondaries, earlier deadlines, and a huge mission fit with me. I used my app as a real demonstration of the mission I had towards caring for certain underserved populations. It’s no mistake I got II at Drexel, rush and Loyola. They’re all hugely mission driven with a focus on community service.

7. You are going to be asked an incredibly important question in every. Single. Secondary:

If you’re a reapplicant: what have you done to improve your application.

You’re going to get a version of that question and you need to KILL IT. So you need to find a new gap year job. At least just have it you can project hours out and don’t even need to have started. You need a really impressive answer with this. This is the bread and butter of ur reapp file one of the most important aspects.

7. THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO IN THE WHOLE PROCESS. is you need to APPLY EARLY. It is truly the only real tangible thing you can do that actually gives you an advantage. Loyola for example was giving people interviews In January to still July applicants. Tulane only really takes early applicants. These are extreme examples but it’s true at every school there are simply more interviews to be given the earlier you apply. You apply early there are more seats to be given. If you’re deferred they will view your app more times. It’s good all around.

Don’t dm me cause I’m super busy right now with the corona bull**** but I hope this helps a little. Don’t buy the services be genuine.

Yeah, I still haven't gotten anything since accepting the acceptance on the Portal!

I want to know they know I exist lmao, not to mention moneyz.
Hey all just a heads up. Apparently it looks like they’re sending finaid info (at least if they need documents) through your Rush email and not the AMCAS email/portal. make sure to check your Rush email

Are you able to get into your rush email? It stopped working for me a couple weeks ago and I keep getting the same error "mailbox not found." Is this a problem others are having?

Edit: Got it to work after trying a few more times!

I got it to work! Just had to click "more details" and then go to the site that it linked afterwards. Must be a browser issue or something, though I had cleared my cookies and turned off ad blockers and it didn't help. Nevertheless, it's working just fine now!

Per last year's thread, 1 person came off WL in the middle of May and 1 in early June. With April 30th being the date people need to drop to 1 acceptance, I would expect no movement until May.
