2019-2020 UC Riverside

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I keep seeing the terms IE and Haider in here (had to look them up). Do applicants from norcal have a significantly lower chance of getting in? This forum seems to be mostly socal people.

google around and you'll see some posts about that

Just got a secondary at 1am on a Friday night haha
+14, Haider applicant.

anybody else's status for LOR say incomplete? also, it says they haven't received my CASPer score but when I tried to send it, there wasn't an option available to send it to the school?

several other people have posted this so I'm sure we'll get some clarification on monday

+12 for getting it at 1 AM

Also, doe anyone know what the situation is with CASPer for this school? On the status page, it shows that they are waiting for the score but on the CASPer site there is no check-box to add UC Riverside to send them my score.

Any insight here?

Edit: realized a few people above have asked the same question. I am planning to call first thing on Monday. I will update then.

The Course Inventory page says Spanish is a recommended course but it doesn't let you mark the page complete without adding something. Does anyone know how to go about this?
I have the same problem!!

Did UCR not have a screening process this time? The email they sent though makes it seem as if they selected the people they wanted to write secondaries...

I'm wondering the same I'm IS but not So cal nor IE. I also got the secondary at 1am....

same, because I am from so cal, but I actually was discouraged to apply here even if I am from SD. but the email was like "you are one of the chosen ones" lol. I mean they wouldn't straight lie I guess. Hmmmm....

Hey all: did those of you who did get secondaries have experience with underserved folks, or something UCR wanted to see in the app?

I was just wondering since so many people have gotten it, was there any screen? I just wanna make sure my hundred bucks are being put into good use (a school that actually screened before sending me a secondary)

Secondary this morning! Somehow I've gotten all other UCs now except Irvine..

Are they requiring CA$Per this year? They're not listed for delivery on the CASPer site unless I'm missing something but this shows up on the status page after submitting the secondary:

also casper doesn't even have the option to send it to UCR, you're right lmao

I have some pretty extensive work with those communities, but I am not from the IE, I'm from LA.

But they do also say in their email, "Based on an initial review of your AMCAS application..." But who knows how extensive that is...

haha yep, who knows. maybe they decided to be a little less stringent. I am kind of glad I didn't listen to my pre-med advisor and applied here. She said I wouldn't even get a secondary, but here we are...

anyone having issues with the Spanish Requirement? It won't let me continue without it
Yes, as mentioned above, it's not going to let you continue even though it's only supposed to be a recommended course. I'm not sure if someone has emailed them but we probably won't find out how to go about it until Monday.

+1 with the spanish. Also, when I click none on the program inventory tab and press save and continue and return back the check mark is gone. Does anybody else have this issue? I know it is not that big deal of a deal but somehow annoying.

I received 1 am secondary. NorCal resident with undergrad at UCSD. Worked in underserved primarily non-hispanic community. So maybe that's why I got mine.

Another IS SoCal applicant with 2ndary. Gotten all UCs (didn't apply to SD)

Hello, this is my third time applying to med school, I applied to UCR in 2017 and 2019, and I got an interview here last year, but ultimately rejected. Their website says "a student not admitted as a result of the first application may file a second application the following year, however a third application cycle is strongly discouraged"

Would it be worth completing the secondary this time or would that just be a donation?

I've been told that a re-application is only worth it if you can demonstrate significant improvement. Did you ask for feedback why you weren't accepted (from any schools)?

Just got a complete email but the CASPer and application statuses both still have a red exclamation mark on my portal so I’m not sure what’s going on. The only thing that changed is the appearance of a green check mark for my LoRs

For the recommended Spanish I put N/A in name and grade with 0 in credit and just selected the current date. in the comment section, I just wrote that I did not take Spanish in undergrad and speak a basic level of Spanish. not sure if it's the right way to go about that, but that's what I did

I emailed them about it, waiting for a response. I think my reason for the LOR is I sent an individual letter along with a committee letter. It probably counted it as 2 even though there are 4 LOR in total.

Update: Yesterday it said incomplete. I checked this morning and it has been updated to complete.

I went to an event at their school in June and they said that they were not screening this year and everyone would get a secondary, so I do find the email a bit odd. I really hope they actually did screen, but who knows.

Anyone else having an issue with meeting the unit requirements, especially if you went to a quarter system school?

For example, I took the whole physics series, but still 2 units short of the 8 required units...

Any insight would be helpful

+1 Did the same thing.

For each respective requirement, (8 credits of bio, 8 credits of physics.. etc.) do you guys just add enough courses to fulfill the credit requirement or do you add all the courses you've taken under that specific subject?

I usually just add enough courses in order to fulfill the credit requirement.

I am having trouble with completing the course semester hours. I took two semesters of 3-credit physics course. Anyone else have the same problem? Also, what does "request waiver/alternative" mean?

Why is "CASPer score completed" listed on the Status page for UCR, but when I contacted CASPer, they told me UCR is not part of the distribution list?
